This is actually pretty good news. If they ever decide to greenlight a sequel to Dragonball, it would be killer if they brought back the Saiyans—you know, characters like Vegeta, Nappa, and maybe some others too.
Or honestly, it’d be even better if Frieza made an appearance.

I mean, if they just threw Vegeta into the mix and had some absolute maniac playing him, I think it could work. Maybe someone like Jason Statham would actually pull it off.

Statham playing Vegeta? I don't know... it just doesn't feel right.
Statham is much better suited for straight action flicks, the kind that don't rely on heavy special effects (or any of that magic stuff you see in Dragonball)

This movie is going to be a total disaster. -_-' Look, I’m a massive fan of DB, DBZ, and Dragon Ball GT, but this feels like it has almost nothing to do with the actual anime or manga. Adapting Dragonball is basically impossible, and it looks like Fox just turned the cartoon I loved watching as a kid into a complete joke.

1) Goku is an 18-year-old high schooler now? O_o That is just absurd. Based on the trailer, the tone seems way too serious, whereas anyone who actually watched the series knows Goku was a kid—around 10 years old—and he was pretty much a moron. If they were setting the story during the tournament where he fought the reincarnation of King Piccolo, you could maybe justify him being 18. But since when was he the "chosen warrior"? O_o As far as I remember, Goku is a Saiyan sent to Earth in a space pod to destroy it. He was found by Gohan—his grandfather—whom he accidentally killed after turning into a giant gorilla during a full moon, not Piccolo. And he doesn't even meet Bulma until after that whole incident when she's looking for the four-star dragonball.

2) Roshi bears zero resemblance to the character we know from the manga or anime, either in terms of personality or look. He's supposed to be this old pervert;

3) The Dragonballs weren't created by some Buddhist sages. They were created by a Namekian who had to split his positive and negative sides apart so he could succeed "god" (Kami) in the DB universe. The negative side is Piccolo and the positive is Kami. Also, if I recall correctly, the Dragonballs have nothing to do with the apocalypse. At least not until Dragon Ball GT. People hunt them down because they can grant any individual wish;

4) Krillin, the guy who's been by Goku's side since childhood, isn't even mentioned, and
Pilaf, the one who released Piccolo, isn't in the movie either.

5) Mai was never a fighter, let alone someone capable of transforming;

6) The Trailer... I don't even know what to say. It looks like some low-budget adaptation

Overall, this movie deserves an Oscar for "epic fail." Subjectively, I hate it. The entire concept of the Dragonball universe has been rewritten. I assume they're making this for an audience that has never even heard of Dragonball.
I think most fans of the series will agree with me that this movie is a complete failure of an adaptation for the legendary Dragonball. 👎

Jamie Chung (Chi-Chi) in a slightly different light 😁

@ironbadger21, of course it’s going to be terrible. That’s exactly why people go see it. 😍Besides, the movie is only 84 minutes long (including credits), so the experience will be more or less painless.

This looks like some kind of Most Wanted list to me.

It feels like a massive oversight that they left Krillin out of the equation, and honestly, making Goku lose that signature goofy charm from the cartoon just feels wrong. As for the rest of the cast? It’s a total disaster. That said, if they could at least nail the special effects and throw in some decent explosions, I might actually enjoy the ride. 🙂

And what ever happened to Nimbus, that wicked little yellow cloud that flies? xD, and as for Shenron—he looks absolutely nothing like the dragon from the original series.

Hey, I'm a huge fanatic too—I've binged every single episode more times than I can count. But man, regarding the movie, I honestly don't know what to say. I have this gut feeling it’s going to be absolute garbage, though I guess we'll find out when it actually drops—maybe they'll somehow surprise me with how they shot it, you never know, right? Personally, I'd much rather see them just greenlight another season of Dragon Ball 🙂

I'm with you—this movie is ridiculous and has nothing to do with Dragon Ball.

The movie is over. Honestly, there’s not much point in even discussing it. The plot—if you can even call it that—is weak and completely underdeveloped. It just blends into the rest of the mess. All that hype for basically nothing...

This looks like a total train wreck, but I guess I’ll check it out just to see what happens. I used to be obsessed with watching Dragon Ball back when I was a kid...

Screw Goku and Vegeta, and screw that brainless director too
I was reading an interview with the original manga creator and the guy basically said... honestly, I don't even know how to react. What am I even looking at here?
It was obvious this was going to be garbage, but this? This is just straight-up teen bullshit. Absolute idiocy that has zero connection to the source material. I don't get it. Is there some contest to see who can make the most moronic characters, scripts, and execution? First Street Fighter, then Dragon Ball... what's next on the list to ruin? 😕
p.s.
Now I'm just sitting here pissed because I wasted my time downloading and watching this. If I’d actually spent money at the theater, I would've been demanding my money back immediately. 😳

Seriously, I sat through the whole thing, and it felt like they went out of their way to make it a disaster. Just like people were saying earlier—the acting was amateur hour, the script was a mess, the execution was flat, and the plot didn't even hold together... my eyes and my soul are actually stinging from the experience. the horror, the horror ... ...

I definitely agree. Trying to bring Dragon Ball to the big screen is an uphill battle. I mean, who is going to pull off all those special effects and heavy hitting action scenes? Regardless, Dragon Ball Z and GT forever. Gohan is my favorite character; he's absolutely great.
