This was posted quite a while ago, but...For the last four days, I've been taking unknown (
I just checked on WebMD and apparently, it's just a different manufacturer for the same medication). I should probably finish the full course, which would be another four days, but I’ve decided to pull the plug today.
The stuff is used to treat H. pylori—which is likely why my doctor put me on it—but honestly, it just seemed to flare up my heartburn and gastritis even more!
In my estimation, the whole mess actually started with my endoscopy. I opted for the one under sedation at a private clinic, but since that felt a bit steep, I went through the hospital system instead (
without any extra coverage: $67). My doctor prescribed Ortalox (
which is essentially the same as Ortalnol, just a different brand), and that left me feeling like I was swallowing liquid fire from the acid reflux. That’s when the coughing started. I tried to be a good soldier and went into work for two days, but the cough just kept worsening, my voice began to vanish, and the flu and sinus congestion really took hold. But then again, who wants to deal with the hassle of calling in sick? 😕 (
especially when I'm constantly interacting with people and they can't even hear a word I'm saying when I try to explain things... )... by the time I finally made it back to my doctor, I had lost my voice entirely.
Interestingly, by the very first day of taking unknown (
taken every 12 hours), my chest stopped aching, the coughing became less suffocating, and I was hacking up endless amounts of phlegm. However, all those side effects listed on the back of the packaging were definitely present: headaches, a distorted sense of taste (
not that my sense of smell hasn't been non-existent for two months now anyway), a bitter taste in my mouth, heartburn, nausea, stomach pain, and bloating.
It would almost be comical if I weren't spending every single morning popping antacids and washing them down with activated charcoal. 😲
