🙄 It’s honestly unbelievable, but I somehow managed to gain three pounds in what feels like just a week, and I have zero clue why. I’m looking for some suggestions on how to get back to my usual weight. 😢 I really don't eat much, just three meals a day. Breakfast is usually just Cocoa Puffs, lunch is typically some meat—like, one small portion—and potatoes, and then dinner is two slices of bread with something on them. I don't do snacks, fruit, or veggies. No fish, no red meat, no soup, no salads, nothing fried... basically nothing else.
🤷
Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, maybe this doesn't actually belong under Health...

That’s actually more suited for the fitness subreddits—there are already dozens of threads covering that exact ground—but no harm in bringing it up here. If you want to see some real progress, try swapping out those Cocoa Puffs in the morning for some plain old oatmeal, and maybe cut back on the heavy carbs at night. I mean, skip the bread, potatoes, and pasta for dinner, and stick to things like cheese, chicken, fish, or just a big salad with some low-calorie veggies instead. A little bit of regular exercise wouldn't hurt either, either...

Look, I don't really need to work out or anything. Everything feels pretty firm on me and I'm nowhere near being overweight. Still, it's just weird... I think I actually ate more over the summer, yet I was lighter back then than I am right now. Brrr! 🤷

Maybe try eating some fruit instead of Cocoa Puffs?

It’s honestly just human nature that we tend to be much more active during the summer months while we feel a bit more sluggish once winter rolls around, which naturally leads to a higher calorie burn when the weather is warm.
Now, Cocoa Puffs is definitely one of those treats you might see recommended for growing kids or anyone specifically looking to put on a few pounds, so if that isn't your goal, it’s probably better to swap that out for something a little lighter—maybe some muesli or corn flakes, ideally the whole grain varieties.
I also think snacking on fresh fruit between meals is a fantastic habit because it provides such a great source of fiber. Fiber is so important for keeping digestion smooth and helping your body break down food efficiently, so I always suggest reaching for a piece of fruit when you need a little pick-me-up.
As for dinner, I’ve found it helps to keep things a bit lighter—think yogurt, some cheese, or a nice serving of vegetables—while maybe trying to skip the bread for that meal.

Well, you pretty much diagnosed yourself. You aren't eating any vegetables, soups, or salads; you're living on Cocoa Puffs, meat, potatoes, and bread. And maybe a little extra on top.

You're basically just fueling up on carbs, so it's no wonder the scale moved.

Try flipping the script: load up on veggies and fruit, grab some low-fat dairy like yogurt or cottage cheese, and stick to light proteins like chicken, turkey, or fish. Then see what happens! 🙂 😎

Fair point. You don't actually need exercise to drop weight. It's a mistake to think you can just outrun a bad diet by burning off extra calories. The math is simple: eat less.

That said, you still need to move. Getting regular exercise in—say, at least 30 minutes, five days a week—is vital if you want to keep your mobility, maintain muscle mass, and keep your heart and cardiovascular system in shape. Not to mention all the other perks... I could go on all day.

That’s basically what they print right on the box, isn't it? 😁 😁 😁

Remember how our grandmas used to drill it into us: every meal needs protein, veggies, and a bit of whole grain.

If you grab some unprocessed grains with a glass of skim milk and a piece of fresh fruit, you're doing yourself a massive favor. 🙂 😎

I'm totally with you on this!! 🙂 Only thing is, eating just fruit for a snack will leave you starving. You might want to toss in a slice of low-fat cheese or maybe some almonds or walnuts...

Those various cereals—you know, the cornflakes, the banana nut stuff, all that—are basically sugar bombs. Even the ones they claim are "whole grain" are so heavily processed that your blood sugar spikes just as fast as if you’d eaten straight candy.

Better to just stick to some old-school, dense whole wheat bread or whip up some plain oatmeal (yeah, yeah, I know... it takes forever to cook)

Honestly, I feel hungry the second I finish a piece of fruit (especially an apple!)!:🤷 :

Toss in some low-fat cheese, maybe half a cup of non-fat yogurt, or just grab a handful of almonds. 🙂 😎

And don't forget: eat that apple! 🙂 😎

If you make lunch your final meal of the day—and cut way back on bread and Cocoa Puffs—you could easily drop about 4 or 5 pounds in a week. When those hunger pangs hit? Just stay hydrated and drink plenty of water... It’s a tried-and-true method that actually works.

Grab some Tropicana granola, just don't go snacking on it late at night!
And maybe get out for a little stroll... honestly, try not to overdo it with the bread or all that sugary stuff

Look, I'll eat it—but only after I have my "other thing." Because if I eat the "other thing" first and then the apple, there’s a huge risk I’ll go looking for *another* "something else" right after! 😁

Nice logic. 🙂 😎 👍

An apple, some protein, a bit of healthy fat. (Think: half a container of Greek yogurt and a handful of almonds)

So, what's 3 pounds to you?

The way I see it, I gain and lose weight like it's nothing...

But the thing is, I barely eat anything at all 😂 , so I have zero clue where this extra pound or two is coming from.
Today, I had Cocoa Puffs for breakfast, had maybe a few spoonfuls of corn and peas for lunch, and then dinner was just two tiny stuffed cabbage rolls with a bit of mashed potatoes (I had to eat something slightly substantial since I basically fasted all day).
🙄 🙄 It’s driving me crazy, I just want my old weight back, damn!
I’ve pretty much skipped lunch lately because I can't find the time with college classes, but I can't just stop eating meals entirely because I still need to actually eat.
I hardly touch bread, except maybe making toast for dinner. I don't really eat fruit (except mandarins sometimes), vegetables (aside from potatoes), or fish, and I definitely don't do red meat or anything fatty. I don't snack either—what even is that? 🤷 I rarely have pasta, though I might occasionally, and I never eat salads or side dishes with my meals; I usually leave at least something on my plate, etc., etc.

Well, when it comes to meat, I pretty much just stick to chicken.

I didn't say you had to live on chicken alone. I was referring to what you highlighted above. 🙂 😎
And don't forget: watch the portion sizes and stay active—even just hitting a brisk walk for 30 minutes, five days a week, makes a difference. 🙂
