The Bourne Ultimatum

Alright, after finally hitting DivX, it’s making its way to theaters these days, so here’s a thread for it.

I can barely remember the first two installments, but this one? Honestly, it was pretty decent—just a solid, old-school action flick without all that modern overblown nonsense. My only gripe is the math behind the writing: why on earth did they need five screenwriters—including Tom Stoppard and Paul Attanasi—for a movie where the dialogue mostly just serves to bridge the gap between action sequences? It’s not exactly a deep, ambitious drama, so you have to wonder what they were actually doing in those writers' rooms.

If the movie's actually good—which this one is, honestly—you don't have to stress over all the little details

I’m totally fine with the first one, but the second? Kind of a letdown. Honestly, the whole two-part saga feels pretty uneven—it’s super obvious they only greenlit the sequel because the first one was such a hit, so you can really feel the plot being stretched thin, if you know what I mean. As for the third installment, I’m probably going to be way too picky, but hey, I can't really expect much given that Paul Greengrass is behind the director's chair for this one since he handled the second part.

The movie is great right up until those final five minutes, which completely ruin the experience.

Solid action, though.

I’m already feeling a bit burnt out after the first three installments... but one thing really stood out to me as totally illogical: how on earth does an assassin from London suddenly end up in New York City?? If I'm reading this right, it's clearly the exact same guy...

Surprisingly relaxing entertainment.
The only real issue was the cinematography—there were moments where the camera shook so violently without any clear reason that it actually started giving me a headache.

Handheld camera work—you know, that shaky "walking" style. It’s used specifically because it pulls you right into the middle of the action, making everything feel way more visceral and real.

Yeah, I get that—shaky cam works fine when it’s subtle, you know? But in the second half, they definitely overdid it (and considering it's the same director, you'd think they'd have found the sweet spot by now). There are moments where it feels less like "gritty realism" and more like I'm sitting through a literal earthquake.

I get that, but there's definitely a line between "immersive" and just being over the top.

Out here in the middle of nowhere, getting a decent movie release feels like waiting for a miracle—it’s practically out of God's reach—so I’m eagerly anticipating this one, though I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high to avoid a massive letdown...😬

Predictable and totally unrealistic—especially those car chases—but I guess it’s still worth a watch just because of that flashy, popcorn-flick appeal.

I find the current situation quite devastating. It feels as though Bourne has transitioned into being a true Superman. It is truly a shame.

The movie was solid. My only gripe is that I was hoping Bourne would show a bit more swagger, but instead, he’s just running for his life while everyone loses their minds over him! Out of a two-hour film, there are maybe two scenes where he actually acts like a badass.

To movie is essentially just an action sequence stretched out to 110 minutes; if you aren't a fan of Greengrass's signature shaky cam and a soundtrack that hits harder than the actual plot points, then this definitely isn't for you.
The chase scenes were actually quite impressive, especially considering the NYPD wouldn't let them push anything faster than 35 mph through the streets of New York City.

There are just way too many naive action sequences here—it completely loses that gritty thriller vibe we were looking for. Honestly? The first one was definitely the superior film.

This movie is pure gold—honestly, you just don't see action this tight anymore.
It feels so visceral that watching that guy get strangled actually hurt to look at...

Also, I love that they didn't waste two hours of non-stop action on slow-mo shots... there aren't even any cheap explosions... just straight adrenaline...

If you're looking for a deep plot, stay far away. But if you want entertainment that’s better than those Transformers movies (which, honestly, are decent enough as mindless fun) where the action isn't just cheesy filler or physically impossible nonsense, get to the theater right now.

P.S. - I'm a huge fan of Greengrass, and his camerawork is killer. He actually keeps things even more steady here than usual. If anyone liked this, check out Flight 93—it's a totally different vibe, but you can still see his signature documentary style, just with a much steadier camera.🙂
