Even after visiting the barber for a close trim—where I have the sides buzzed down to just 3mm—they seem to sprout back almost immediately.

None of this would be particularly unusual if I weren't only 19 years old. What exactly am I lacking biologically? I haven't been able to find any definitive answers through a simple web search, so I find myself compelled to turn to this community for guidance. Help! 😕

It's genetics. It happens. Don't sweat it.

Go ahead and head over to the women's forum and ask them what they really think about young guys with gray hair.. 😁 Honestly, it’s an incredibly attractive look, so there is absolutely no reason to stress over it.. 😉

Well, he might be in his 40s like g. Cloney, but there is no way he's 19. 🙂

I find it hard to believe it's purely down to genetics. My hair is turning gray, but I am certainly not old. A buddy of mine is only 35 and already has a few silver strands—nearly the same amount as me. My sister, naturally, has none; she's around 25.

So, yeah... honestly, this whole thing is getting pretty depressing.

In my family, everyone started going gray around 19 or 20, maybe 21 at the absolute latest... it's nothing major. You aren't going to turn completely white in a single year. You'll just have a few stray ones here and there. Don't sweat it too much—you don't want to stress yourself into going gray even faster. 😉

I am well aware I won't go fully gray within a year. However, women in this day and age are so incredibly complicated and demanding—not to mention quite childish for someone my age—so they tend to seek out equally immature, rather than serious, partners. Having several highly visible gray hairs would almost certainly be a dealbreaker.

Furthermore, it takes a toll on my own self-confidence. Lately, I’ve found myself heading to the barber every three weeks instead of four, specifically because of this issue.

I have a buddy who is practically half-gray already, and he hasn't even hit thirty. He started turning gray visibly back when he was maybe nineteen or twenty, and honestly? Women go crazy for him more than anyone else. So, you’re talking nonsense... the more gray you have, the better. You possess something most people lack, and it looks good. Right now, noticing just a few stray hairs might feel strange, but once they start multiplying, you'll see it actually works in your favor.

Besides, you were the one complaining that you have to get a haircut every three weeks instead of four... good grief, what kind of tragedy is that? 😁 You have to get a trim once a week before it gets messy.

You don't have a real problem here. Just keep your cool; because sooner or later, a real issue is going to hit you.

And hey, there's also hair dye. 😉

I started getting gray hairs at 13, right when I hit puberty. People kept telling me it was just genetics, but honestly, nobody else I know dealt with that so early. 🤷
I mean, I don't even dye my hair, so if I were still 24, I’d probably be looking pretty gray by now. 🤷

Maybe you're just running low on some vitamins... stress totally burns through your B vitamins faster than usual... there's definitely a connection there.

I started noticing gray hairs when I was only 17... now I'm pretty much split right down the middle, I guess.
I don't even bother stressing over it or tracking the progress. Feels like pure genetics to me.
Women love it—tested and proven.😬

Thank God I haven't even touched a single gray hair yet😱😁
I actually know this girl who started dyeing her hair when she was only twenty-three, can you believe that?

The title pretty much sums it up; I’ve started graying at an alarming rate... and it isn’t just my hair, but my beard and eyebrows are showing it too. It wouldn’t be quite such a crisis if I weren't only 25, but what could actually be triggering such early graying? Are there specific vitamins or minerals I should look into taking to try and slow this whole process down?

I’m only 26 and I’ve already got nearly half my hair turning gray. Nobody else in my family deals with this until their 40s. What’s actually worrying me is that my eyelashes and other body hair are starting to turn gray too. Just please, don't hit me with the "just reduce your stress" advice 😁 I’m wondering if there are specific vitamins or minerals I should start taking so I don't end up completely gray by the time I hit 30. Thanks

You dealing with anything else? Like, digestive issues or mental stuff—depression, zero motivation, whatever?

I haven't really gone down the rabbit hole or anything, but I've seen bits and pieces online suggesting it might be a zinc or copper deficiency, or maybe something with tyrosine. Basically, that's where most people seem to say the issue lies.

I’m turning 24 soon, and I’ve already noticed a fair amount of gray hair starting to show up. It isn’t quite half my head yet, but it’s definitely noticeable enough to see. Interestingly, nobody else in my family has dealt with premature graying like this at all. I even have a few white hairs right in my left eyebrow that make it look like I accidentally shaved a line through it with some clippers. 😂

I’m certainly not feeling depressed or having any issues with my sleep, so everything is perfectly fine on that front. This whole thing really started happening around the time I was finishing up high school.

To be honest, I actually had a single streak of gray hair when I was just a little kid—just a few curly strands amidst the rest of my straight hair 🤣—and that stayed with me throughout my entire childhood. Now, naturally, there are a lot more of them appearing. 😳

I’ve started seeing some gray hairs myself, though maybe not enough to be a huge deal since I just turned 36. Honestly, my mom’s illness and passing really took a toll on me. I know someone who’s dealing with a much more severe situation—having a sick child—and he’s already completely unraveled, even though he’s barely past 40. So, I guess it’s possible that major shocks to the system really do trigger premature graying, along with everything else happening to your body. You just have to find a way to survive it all, I suppose.

I’m 36, so I’ve already hit that halfway point to being gray. Honestly, though, it runs in the family on my mother's side.

It doesn't run in my family, I guess. My mom didn't even have nearly enough gray hair to bother with dye—she just did some highlights—even at 68. But I know this one girl who already had quite a bit of gray by the time she was 25. Honestly, she had more than I do now at 36.

I feel like this topic actually belongs in the beauty and hair subforum, but whatever,
so here’s the deal—I’m 26 and I’ve already started seeing some pretty noticeable gray hairs popping up over the last few years. Honestly, what do I even do? Since I'm still so young, it feels kind of silly to just let them sit there, and I probably should just dye them, right? But then again—ugh—the thought of spending the rest of my life dumping harsh, aggressive chemicals on my head is just... no thanks. Plus, those dyes absolutely wreck your hair quality, and mine is already struggling. What would you guys do if you were in my shoes? Also, would it be a dealbreaker for a partner, like, would it bother you?

I didn't "start" dyeing my hair until I hit 30—mostly because I knew once I started, there was no turning back. By then, the gray had taken over so much that I honestly couldn't stand looking at myself in the mirror. Now, I try to keep it to a minimum. I just touch up my roots and occasionally dye the full length to keep things even.

The gray hairs actually showed up back when I was in college. It runs in my family, definitely on my mom's side.

I have a close friend who is about 95% gray, even though she’s only 40. She’s been rocking that silver look for the last decade or so, trying to go "natural." To be honest, I can't help but feel like she's become a bit of an eccentric since she stopped dyeing it. She works in a client-facing role, too, so I wonder what her customers think—they probably assume she's unwell or something.🤷 Her hair is super long, and frankly, it looks terrible.

At the end of the day, you just have to decide for yourself where the line is—when you feel like you've gone "too gray" for your own comfort.
