I haven't even touched the Star Wars movies yet (you wouldn't believe 😵 ) but I finally decided to dive in, and now I'm stuck... what order am I supposed to watch them in? Is the newer stuff actually set before the old stuff or am I just totally tripping here... help me out 🙄

Start with 5, then move to 1, followed by 6, then 2... ignore 4 for now, and finally, wrap things up with 3

You aren't wrong. You could watch them from 1 through 6, though personally, I prefer starting with 4, 5, and 6, then jumping to 1, 2 (which I usually skip because it's terrible), and finally 3.

I disagree with Andrew Harris7 regarding Attack of the Clones being terrible. The Phantom Menace and Return of the Jedi are significantly worse. Attack of the Clones is passable.

I agree with you, but I'm just stating my preference. To me, Episode I is better than Episode II because it was the first one I saw growing up. Back then, things like directing, cinematography, and sound design didn't matter to me...

And honestly, don't listen to anyone claiming any specific part is "bad"—they're all good in their own way, it's really just a matter of which ones hit a little harder for you personally. 😉

In my opinion, Attack of the Clones is hands down the worst ☕

I recently rewatched The Phantom Menace. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but I'd say it was passable at best... I actually gave up halfway through Attack of the Clones ☕

The way they handled Hayden Quote is definitely part of the problem..

Revenge of the Sith is easily the standout here.

I watched the original trilogy a long time ago, but I recall finding all three to be more than alright 👍

Basically, I'd suggest watching the prequel trilogy first, then the original trilogy... just to follow the story chronologically 😉

George Lucas himself actually suggested watching them in the order of 4-5-6 then 1-2-3.
I’m totally on board with that.

Honestly, the biggest reason to watch them this way is because of this one narrative gap. It’s not even a bad thing—it’s actually the opposite. Those "holes" and spaces between the movies just push you to dive deeper into the whole saga... At the very least, you’ll find yourself hopping on Wikipedia to figure out how the Clone Wars went down, or how they actually built the Death Star and stuff (none of which is explicitly laid out in the films, but the structure of the movies basically forces you to go hunt for those answers yourself).
If you really get hooked, you'll end up hunting down old comic books, animated series, and all that good stuff where they actually explain everything. 😁

Another huge point is that this order avoids that cliché "happy ending" vibe. Instead, it leaves you with more of a... hmm... bitter aftertaste, I guess.
You might walk away thinking maybe Vader was right and falling to the dark side was justified, or maybe you just plain dislike certain heroes and want to see them suffer a little... 🙂 Either way, the 4-5-6-1-2-3 route leaves plenty of room for different interpretations and moods, so it's definitely the best way to go.

Just tell her everything about Anakin Skywalker and his whole descent into madness... make it so when she watches New Hope, she just wants to toss the rest of the movies straight into the trash.🙂

Fine, sure, the plot has its merits, but there's gotta be something else.
Besides, I actually dig the new trilogy too, just in a different way. 🙂

Bottom line: watch the old trilogy first, then the new stuff. It's the only way to actually appreciate both trilogies for what they really are.

Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi (plus A New Hope too) are top tier!

If you don't believe me, go watch Return of the Jedi again—you probably saw it ages ago, haha—but once you realize about 60% of it is basically just a puppet show for kids, you'll change your mind pretty quick. 🙂

Actually, yeah, obviously you watch the old ones first. We all know that...🙂 but the acting in Return of the Jedi is easily some of the worst in all of Star Wars. It basically kills the movie. Then you've got those dumb Ewoks right next to the Gungans and that idiot Jar Jar Binks. The acting in The Phantom Menace is ten times better than in Return of the Jedi.
Just a reminder: Ian McDiarmid, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, Sofia Coppola...🙂
whereas in Return of the Jedi, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were totally off, and even Harrison Ford didn't seem like himself. Honestly, the only thing saving that whole movie is Ian McDiarmid being great as Emperor Palpatine and that final showdown between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Why? Because Mark Hamill barely says a word...
Obviously, the plot is better in Return of the Jedi...

I don't even need to explain why Attack of the Clones beats Return of the Jedi, let alone Revenge of the Sith...
