I’ve been obsessed with Horror since I was a kid.
It’s a pretty thankless genre, honestly, mostly because it’s become buried under a massive pile of garbage. ☕
But every once in a while, you actually stumble upon something good.

For me, it all comes down to having a solid plot. Everything else is just secondary.

Definitely a Comedy. I mean, where else are you gonna go to actually lift your spirits and get a good laugh, right? As for everything else—maybe some Drama or potentially a solid crime thriller if you're feeling it.

Honestly, there’s no such thing as a film without Drama. Look, Drama is the genre that actually captures something human, something truthful, something vital. Any movie that doesn't fall strictly under that umbrella still needs a heavy dose of dramatic weight to be even remotely decent. That’s why Drama is the undisputed queen of genres; it’s been that way since before film was even an art form, dating all the way back to Ancient Greece when we really only had tragedy and comedy to work with.

Only Drama possesses that specific power to tear you completely apart, leaving you somehow feeling better for it.

Coming in at a close second on my list of favorites is Film Noir. It’s the perfect cocktail of crime, Drama, and romance—it has everything you need and then some 🙂 ...I mean, is there anyone on this planet who doesn't love The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, The Big Sleep, In a Lonely Place, or Laura? They are all cinematic masterpieces of cosmic proportions. Seriously, just look at this shot from Laura:

I prioritize quality filmmaking above all else; for me, the specific genre is irrelevant if the movie isn't actually good.

So, I'm just gonna repost what I said over in that other thread before they shut it down:

I'm looking for Teen flicks—and I don't mean those ones where the whole plot is just five meathead douchebags competing to see who can score first—and some good old Horror🙂😁 (though I'm totally down for thrillers and whatever else falls under that umbrella)

Without a doubt, my absolute favorite genre has to be Drama... though I also find myself really drawn to Thrillers, Crime stories, Romance, and a solid Comedy or perhaps a good Horror film...

On the other hand, I generally don't care for or watch Westerns, Sci-Fi, sports movies (with the exception of Raging Bull🙂), teen comedies, Action, or anything involving superheroes...

So, when I'm high or not? I guess if I'm stoned, I mostly stick to Comedy—everything else just feels a bit trippy, you know? But when I'm sober, maybe a solid Thriller-Drama, or some Action with elements of Thriller and Drama might work better.

Drama and Sci-Fi Thriller are my top picks. I can pretty much watch anything, though. I'm not exactly picky.

Same as Jamie Nelson10, I enjoy a good Comedy or Horror. Maybe Action is my least favorite, but I still watch it.

Drama and documentaries are my go-tos. Always the best. I'll watch a Comedy or a Horror once in a while just to shut my brain off, but finding anything decent there is a struggle. Action and Sci-Fi? Hardly ever.
Actually, as much as it sounds stupid, I don't really care about the genre as long as the movie doesn't suck. 🍿

A good movie is a good movie. I can watch just about anything, though I usually skip romantic comedies—specifically those teen comedies they make these days.

If I absolutely had to choose, I'd say Drama and Thriller are my favorites. That said, I also enjoy a good Horror, Sci-Fi, or even a historical piece every now and then.

Action, then maybe some Sci-Fi. Throw in some Horror and Comedy somewhere in there. Drama? Depends on the vibe.

It’s a solid enough movie regardless of how you categorize it, though if I’m being forced to pick a side, I suppose I’d lean toward Sci-Fi; at least with that genre, I feel like I know what I'm getting into.
