Apocalypse Now definitely kicks off strong. Same goes for The Godfather. But honestly? My favorite opening has gotta be Once Upon a Time in the Wild West. 😍

When I think about those "new" ones, the American remake of The Grudge comes to mind—specifically that scene where the guy falls off the balcony. I honestly didn't see that coming.

Looking back at what I've watched lately, the opening shot of Walk the Line was just incredible. It blends so perfectly with that intro music... though, I guess it all kicks off in prison anyway...

...but I’m pretty sure it’s crystal clear where that opening shot came from. It’s that scene from the film "The Mirror" (1974)—you know, the one where the mother is sitting on a wooden fence, looking out over those endless wheat fields and distant woods while you hear the faint whistle of a locomotive in the background? Then the poetry starts being recited... she’s young, Natalie has her hair pulled up in a bun... just freeze that frame right there and you’ve got a fine art photograph on your hands... or maybe even something hyper-realistic... and then the camera just glides right past her...

The opening scene with the spaceship in Aliens is just so soothing and poetic... it’s the total opposite of the film's frantic pace, which is exactly why it works so well...
