Every single day after I take off my mascara... my lashes just fall out. It’s actually getting ridiculous—I’ve counted about six falling out from each eyelid 😬 (yes, I actually sat there and counted them)
.
Does anyone have any advice?
I feel like I’ve cycled through a mountain of different mascaras at this point... and nothing helps...
Right now, I'm using an L'Oréal makeup remover
. Is this a vitamin deficiency thing, or is it the mascara itself, or maybe the remover?
If there’s anyone out there kind enough to share some wisdom 🙂 I'll be grapefull 👍

It seems like everyone starts noticing this "seasonal" hair shedding whenever spring rolls around or fall hits.

Look, if you’re actually losing chunks of hair and it feels like it’s just... not growing back, go see a doctor. Seriously. It could be anything—inflammation somewhere in your body (like issues with your teeth, sinuses, tonsils, ovaries, whatever...), maybe anemia, some weird nutrient deficiency, or just straight-up stress, which is usually the culprit for pretty much everything these days.

Check out this article too 🙂

writes..."A situation like this can be triggered by a serious illness, a high fever, or even recovering from surgery—specifically anesthesia"

Well, I just had surgery recently (general anesthesia), so don't act surprised if 🙂
I'm feeling a bit off. Oh, and by the way—I need to start on birth control soon. I’ve heard all sorts of rumors floating around, but is it actually true that it makes hair loss even worse?
Anyway, thanks Henry Jackson35 🙂

btw, thx Henry Jackson35 🙂

The pills they sell today don't carry nearly enough hormones to trigger those kinds of side effects. Honestly? I don't know. Maybe for one person in a million, but from everyone I know—and believe me, I know plenty of women—none of them dealt with increased body hair. Usually, if you're going to feel anything, it's just the initial headaches, dizziness, or nausea while your body adjusts to the change.

As for me, I didn't have any major issues, though I did deal with some mood swings and a bit of depression.
That was pretty much it.😁

For four months now, my eyebrows have been thinning out, and at this rate, I’ll be completely bare soon. My specialist at Dermatica suggests it's the result of prolonged psycho-physical tension. Does anyone here have more insight into this, or perhaps some advice on how to manage this kind of stress? Thanks.

I'm not entirely sure if this will be helpful, but I’ve dealt with similar issues regarding my eyelashes. I don't quite grasp the concept of "psychophysiological tension" myself, though if you're referring to stress, that might be a factor—it's certainly been a possibility in my own case. Other potential causes could include thyroid issues, vitamin deficiencies, or perhaps just poor nutrition. I really feel for you and hope things start looking up soon!

Hi there. I have a bit of an issue that I think I touched on previously in my thread about seborrheic dermatitis, but I am starting to suspect that might not be the actual root cause. Over the last year, my eyelashes have been falling out quite heavily; most of them don't seem to grow back, and I feel like I have less than half of what I used to have left. Has anyone else dealt with something similar? I haven't worn any eye makeup for over six months now, it isn't an infection, and my thyroid levels are normal, so I am honestly at a loss as to what this could be. It also seems like my eyebrows are starting to experience the same thing.

Thanks for getting back to me. While psychophysiological tension is essentially stress, I recall reading somewhere that modern research suggests stress doesn't trigger this specific type of hair loss anymore. I really ought to head back to my doctor to get a referral and seek out some second opinions from other specialists, but my GP is notoriously difficult about handing out referrals just because a patient asks for one. It feels like not many people deal with these exact issues, since I haven't heard a peep from anyone else. I hope we can stay in touch; it would be useful to trade insights if we uncover anything new.
Wishing you the best of luck.

Count me in, because I’ve been dealing with this exact same mess for about a month now. It isn't just my lashes falling out, either—I’ve got this annoying itch right along my lash line and my eyes sting every once in a while.
wiredskipper41, I didn't catch your post over in the seborrheic dermatitis thread, so I’m not sure if losing lashes was your only symptom, but yeah, the itching and stinging are hitting me hard too.
I actually went to see an ophthalmologist about it. She told me my eyelid margins look irritated and my lash follicles are super inflamed. She figured it was some kind of allergy, so she prescribed these anti-allergy, anti-inflammatory eye drops. Honestly? They haven't done squat. The symptoms are still there, especially the lash loss. My doctor was actually pretty shocked by how much hair I'm losing.
Personally, I don't buy the allergy theory. I don't have any allergies—tested and all—and I’m not dealing with any typical allergy stuff like a runny nose, coughing, or watery eyes.
From what I can tell, did you two both end up seeing a dermatologist? What’s their take? And what does their exam even look like? Is it that same micro-camera thing they use to check your scalp?

Hopefully we figure this out before I’m completely bald in the lash department.🙂

If you're into those old-school home remedies, I heard eating a ton of yellow carrots—the bigger ones, not the standard ones—might help. Might as well give it a shot, right? 🤷

I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to seborrheic dermatitis, so I was wondering—is there any actual link between that and losing eyelashes?

Copied this straight from a medical site about blepharitis—basically when your eyelid margins get inflamed.

"The most common culprit behind anterior inflammation is seborrhea (seborrheic blepharitis), which is basically just your oil glands acting up. They end up pumping out way more grease than they actually need. This eyelid seborrhea usually hangs out with dandruff on your lashes, forehead, scalp, or even behind your ears. Hormonal shifts or high stress levels can trigger it. With this specific type, you don't see massive redness; instead, you just get this gross oily buildup on the lids. Another cause is an infection in those oil glands, usually from Staph (like S. aureus or S. epidermidis). That version causes much heavier redness. Sometimes both things happen at once. If it's the first one, we call it seborrheic blepharitis; if it's the second, it's bacterial."

So, to answer your question, Carl Thompson6, according to this... I think I read somewhere else that for the seborrheic kind, you basically just treat it by washing it away with some mild shampoo or something similar, just to cut down on all that extra oil...

I’ve been noticing some redness right above my eyebrows and sometimes near my nose too. I actually swung by a Dermatica clinic since it was on my way, and they mentioned it might be seborrheic dermatitis. Honestly, I haven’t dealt with much skin stuff before, so I'm thinking this just popped up because of stress. Quick question though—when eyelashes start falling out, does that mean there's eyelid seborrheic dermatitis going on? I'm a little worried about this small patch spreading further.

Look, I don't think this is just some isolated thing...
Yeah, you’ve gotta have blepharitis—basically an inflamed eyelid caused by seborrheic dermatitis—which usually comes with oily lids and lashes falling out...
But honestly, losing eyelashes isn't the only giveaway for any kind of issue, including that inflammation...
I wouldn't stress too much about it spreading. If things do get worse, your doctor is definitely going to spot it and handle everything at once...

Joshua Clark5, the stinging and itching sounds more like an infection to me. Maybe you should consider seeing a dermatologist? Even for my own issues, a specialist at Dermatica actually flagged it and suggested I get some endocrine testing done, which ended up being fine. So, I'm getting ready to go back for a follow-up. I don't have any typical signs of seborrheic dermatitis, though I have noticed some flaking along my eyelid margins over the last few months. Honestly, that’s probably just because I rarely wash my eyes to avoid the urge to rub them. I also recently tested positive for H. pylori, and my doctor mentioned it could potentially trigger skin issues, though that feels like a bit of a stretch to me. One more thing—I've noticed a significant amount of shedding right before my periods, which might support the stress theory. If that turns out to be true, I'll probably be left without eyelashes, or maybe even eyebrows, by the time I finish college. 😢

"Front eyelid inflammation can show up as catarrhal (just redness), squamous (those white flakes on your lashes), or ulcerative (where the eyelid margin actually breaks down). That last one usually means you're losing eyelashes too. Patients deal with itching, burning lids, and their eyes just give out fast when they're doing close-up work."

Hey wiredskipper41, check this out—it’s from a page on blepharitis regarding that flaking issue you mentioned... it talks about those scales I've noticed myself once or twice... I'm not sure about seeing a dermatologist, which is why I asked how they even examine it. I saw an ophthalmologist who uses that slit lamp thing to look at the inside of the lid and the lash roots... does it even make sense to hit up a dermatologist too?

Btw, my thyroid is acting up, but I'm on meds for it so I'm ruling that out... I also have H. pylori, just like you (been battling it for 10 years with zero luck), and let me tell you firsthand, skin issues tied to that don't look like this. Usually, it's more like blisters or localized inflammation that itches and bugs you... kind of like an allergy...

If it makes you feel any better, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna end up losing my lashes, eyebrows, and maybe my hair too... weirdly enough, they never just fall out on their own; we basically have to do it ourselves.🙂

So, over the last month, my eyebrows, eyelashes, and hair have been falling out like crazy... I’ve lost about 70% of my brows, 50% of my lashes, and my hair is thinning out big time. Has anyone else gone through something similar??? To be honest, I've been under some seriously intense stress lately—like, crushing levels of it. Please help me out here... what could be causing this?? Any idea what kind of health issues might trigger these symptoms?

Go check your retainer. You know those things have a habit of slipping out sometimes.

I actually wanted to mention that there’s this specific oil you can pick up at most local pharmacies—it’s specifically formulated
to help with rapid eyelash growth. A whole bunch of my girlfriends have tried it themselves, and honestly, it worked wonders for them; their lashes ended up looking way thicker and noticeably longer.
