Ethan Ramos39 said:Good grief, so is the movie actually any good or not? And since when did the 'Transamerica' thread turn into 'Transamerica'?😕

It's like comparing Da Vinci's Code to the Church—if the Church had just stayed quiet, that movie wouldn't have gotten half the hype it did. I can't believe you guys all fell for the same old trick from dustyscout53... 🙂

Luckily, you didn't fall for it. 😁 😁

She really ought to publish a book filled with her wisdom and land a guest spot on Oprah!

Good grief, is this finally the moment where I’m allowed to start bringing up my dead relatives?

dustyscout53 said:Well, that’s certainly a minimalist critique. Funny enough, I was reading one of Mimi Simić's pieces in Feral this morning that was... let's just say, a bit less on the minimal side.

I don't really buy Minin's critiques. They feel way too subjective regarding gender identity because of her own perspective. It's impossible for her to move past that whole "heteronormative vs. everyone else" angle. But sure, I'm sure she knows way more about "that world" than those of us just watching it on TV.

Personally, I thought the movie was good. It gets a little tedious at times, granted, but it's solid. I liked it because it shows that life throws the same kind of bullshit at those "outcasts" as it does at the rest of us... you know, the "normal" folks.

But what on earth do you mean by 'because of their own sexuality'? Are you suggesting that anyone providing a different critique must possess a sexual life or be a sexual being? Honestly, where in today’s chaotic and morally adrift society would you even find a critic devoid of any sexuality?

Just to clear up the uncertainty for you, what you are referring to as "sexuality" is actually known as sexual orientation or preference. Every single human being possesses their own "sexuality."

As for my own experience, Transamerica earned a positive rating from me, specifically because there wasn't a single moment where I felt bored! It wasn't groundbreaking, nothing overly brilliant, and certainly nothing revolutionary, yet it provided ninety minutes of pure, delightful entertainment at the theater. Given that I was watching an American film, that was quite a pleasant surprise, wouldn't you agree? But I suppose I am repeating myself.

Someone already pointed out that the lead actress is basically carrying the whole movie, and honestly, I can't argue with that. I did dig the scenery, though—those shots of the American wilderness and all that lush greenery were pretty nice🙂. It had the potential to be a total standout if they’d just taken it more seriously. Instead, it felt like they started off strong and then just completely lost the plot midway through.

Just to save you from the suspense, what you’re calling "sexuality" is actually referred to as sexual orientation or preference. EVERYONE has "their own sexuality."

.

Honestly, you are unbelievable. You deliberately refuse to understand what people are trying to say, choosing instead to over-analyze every single detail just to somehow elevate yourself... or whatever it is you're doing.

You know perfectly well I was talking about the nature of her sexuality. I wasn't referring to "personal" sexuality, yours or mine. I had no idea people possessed sexual orientations—thanks ever so much for the enlightenment.🙄 Seriously, give it a rest. Stop acting either incredibly stupid or incredibly brilliant, whichever one this is. It happens with every single topic.

Back to the point: the movie was incredibly boring at times, way too drawn out, and frankly, quite tedious.

Aha! So, if someone happens to spout something nonsensical, suddenly it becomes my fault because I am "intentionally" choosing not to comprehend them? Very well, I will gladly accept the blame, but let’s not forget that what you said was still complete nonsense.

On topic: I found certain jokes in the movie absolutely hilarious; I was practically doubling over during some of those scenes!

So you're just incredibly open-minded and totally "get" the less conventional crowd, even though you don't actually trust them, right? 😕

Did you come up with that nonsense all by yourself, or did Ahmed Imamović have to help you out?🤣

I only distrust people who can't seem to detach themselves from it all. I know Mimi Simić quite well...😉
She's a very bright girl, truly, but she overanalyzed things far too much when it came to sexuality. That was her only flaw. I mentioned why her critiques didn't carry much weight, mostly because someone used them as a counter-argument to some other point, blah blah blah...

The critique of KIIS-FM is a hundred times better...😎

she’s an incredibly bright girl, truly, but she just drank way too much when it came to discussing sexuality. That’s all there is to it.

Is she always this way toward everyone, or does she only act like this when she's critiquing films that tackle LGBTQ+ themes or other unconventional subjects?
