Wolf Creek

Finally got around to watching this one. I’ve heard so much hype about it that I just had to see it for myself. Honestly? It’s a masterpiece. 🙏

The setup is pretty simple: three young people head out to the American desert to check out some crater near Wolf Creek. Naturally, their car breaks down mid-trip. And of course, some stranger shows up offering a hand. Of course, that friendly stranger turns out to be a total psycho. We've seen this trope a million times before, but the execution here is fantastic. The director doesn't rely on cheap jump scares or over-the-top gore to terrify you—instead, they just force you to step right into those characters' shoes. A lot of it is shot handheld, which isn't usually my thing, but here it works perfectly. There were moments where I actually felt sick to my stomach because of one constant, looming factor: even if you manage to run, you're still miles from anywhere. You're still screwed. Not to mention how much of the violence happens in broad daylight. The characters are just... stuck. No way out.

The cinematographer did an incredible job. You're caught in this loop of feeling nauseous while simultaneously being mesmerized by what's on screen. Truly fascinating. 🙏

A little fun fact: the movie is actually based on a real-life serial killer—get this—John (Robert Mark) Mike!

Definitely worth a watch. 🙏🙏🙏

Oh, and one more thing: it doesn't try to pull any sudden, cheap twists like they did in High Tension 👏 The movie just flows perfectly from start to finish 🙏

I started downloading that movie, but then I spent some time scrolling through reviews and saw that most people absolutely trashed it, so I just decided to bail...

That’s strange; I was actually expecting more praise for this one than I'm getting.

The trailer looks decent enough, but honestly, I'm starting to get a bit tired of all these endless variations on the 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' trope.

So I just finished watching this flick, and honestly, I’m sitting here scratching my head. I was fully expecting some big payoff at the end where the psycho killer finally gets hauled off in handcuffs, but instead... nothing. Just a total non-ending. It turns out nobody actually catches him for those murders, which feels super weird because, you know, in actual American true crime cases, they usually figure out who the perp is. That ending left me totally lost. Btw, I always get so worked up during these kinds of movies. Like, there was this one part where she takes him out with a sniper shot and he just goes down—I was screaming at the screen! Why didn't she just go in and finish him with a knife to the throat? The tension was killing me, and I was just fuming because I knew if she didn't take that extra step, they were absolutely screwed. I wasn't really expecting her to take out the blonde, though; seeing him get picked off by a sniper like that was a genuine shock. I have to say, the whole movie was surprisingly unpredictable, which was a nice little twist for me.

it’s just those Americans who bail after forty-five minutes because they haven't seen enough gore or jumpscares yet—they give it bad reviews when there isn't any immediate horror action

You know, that’s actually a very interesting point. It’s the exact same reasoning used to attack 'House of Wax' or even 'Hostel'. Hey... it's a shame they spend so little time on the killer itself.. That's the guy we're here to see slaughter... Instead, it leans way too hard on the main characters, who are honestly kind of boring...

It’s decent, though arguably overhyped. The real reason you need to sit down and watch this is the cinematography—it is absolutely stunning!
