I did, but I eventually got used to them. My advice? Don't even think about them being there. That's the easiest way to adjust.

The doc told me my eyes look solid 😬 and that everything should go smoothly. Honestly, I kept telling him that sounds way too good to be true. Is he being real when he says I'll be seeing clearly by October? My lenses are supposed to show up early next month.

jadesailor14 — you should give the doctor a call. He actually gave me a ton of info over the phone, including how he uses this method to stop prescription changes in his younger patients. He’s super nice and pretty easy to talk to if you call him, just make sure you don't ring him before 4:00 PM.

My daughter is currently sitting at around a -6.00, so if this only brings her down to a -4.00, it might not be much of a game-changer for us.

Quick status update

So, I’ve been rocking these contacts for about ten days now, trying to get used to them, and honestly? I’m pretty stoked.

They’re a total breeze for sleeping, too—they actually work. It took a few days to adjust because my prescription basically got cut in half and things were a little blurry at first, but we're getting there. Now, one eye is crystal clear and the other is just slightly off, maybe by a tiny bit, but it’s basically negligible.

I can see all day long, driving is a breeze, and everything looks great. Most of the time, I don't even remember I'm wearing them. I spent the whole weekend out in the dust and grit, and it was wild how nothing was irritating my eyes or feeling scratchy. By the evening, my vision dips just a little bit, but it’s nothing dramatic.

I’ve always worn my contacts during exams, even after five years of using them. I use semi-hard lenses and go to the Mayo Clinic for my checkups. When I go in for an eye exam, I just make sure I'm not wearing the contacts then...

For the checkup, you'll want to have your contacts in—the doctor needs to see how they're sitting in your eye and if everything's staying healthy. But for the actual exam, you gotta ditch them for seven days beforehand.

I’ve been wearing soft contact lenses for six years now. In the early days, I used to make a habit of taking them out and going lens-free for a few days leading up to my eye exams. My optometrist eventually had to set me straight, telling me there was absolutely no need to stop wearing them just for an appointment. Apparently, that whole "lens holiday" protocol is only necessary for people using scleral or rigid gas permeable lenses.
Since then, I just show up to my checkups wearing my contacts. I always bring my case and solution along, though; that way, once they finish the initial exam with my lenses in, I can pop them out so they can get a clear look at my eyes without them.

My eye doctor has never once actually checked what kind of contact lenses I’m wearing... 😕 Does he check everyone else??
