The new Tim Burton movie just hit theaters 🙏

The reviews have been great so far, and honestly, the trailer looks pretty promising. The production design is especially stunning—it kind of gives me those vibes from a live-action version of "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

Supposedly, the film doesn't have much to do with the previous one. The screenwriter mentioned he hadn't even seen Gene Wilder's version (which, I guess, was okay enough 😉), so instead, he took direct inspiration from Dahl's book, though with some Hollywood tweaks, of course. Because of that, the whole thing supposedly leans into being a bit of a kid's horror flick, which I think means it stays true to the book. Add Tim Burton to the mix, and you've probably got a winning combo 🙂

I should also mention that, allegedly 🙂, Johnny Depp's performance is brilliant. He apparently based Willy Wonka on a blend of Howard Hughes and some 70s glam rock star 😁 🙏

I'm not sure when it'll be hitting the local theaters here in the States, but I'm definitely going to check it out 👍 👍

Word on the street is that Tim Burton has actually outdone himself with this one.

Apparently, he’s been training 96 squirrels since they were born just for a single scene where they sit around a table cracking hazelnuts and tossing the shells over their shoulders.

Impressive, I suppose.

P.S. The trailer—specifically the production design—looks lavish, but even so, the overall vibe feels a bit hollow. I really hope all this isn't everything the movie has to offer...

Personally, I’ve always preferred the Gene Wilder version. It’s hard to imagine anything topping that, especially since I'm not exactly a fan of Depp.

I absolutely loved this book when I was a kid, so I am beyond excited to finally see the movie adaptation 😍

I just watched the trailer... and it looks promising. We’ve got that twisted Depp energy back, and the darker aesthetic is definitely there—that's half the battle won right there. I really just hope this doesn't turn into another sentimental family drama like Big Fish. It needs some edge; it needs that gothic soul. It honestly feels like a waste to see Burton spend his talent on these overly bright, colorful little movies.

Not that it's popular to say, but I'm not exactly a huge fan of Depp either—he’s got a bit of an unpleasant look about him, honestly—but as far as acting goes, he's actually pretty decent... 🙂

He was actually pretty good in Once Upon a Time in Mexico / Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas...

Honestly, they owe him one after being overlooked so many times before, especially given those incredible performances in Edward Škaroruk and Ed Wood... 😉

As for the movie itself—it's a bummer they pushed the release back to September, but whatever... I suspect they did it because the summer season isn't exactly great here, and maybe because the subtitling and editing for the American market isn't quite finished yet...
