When it comes to action movie sequels, Predator 2 is honestly just okay...

if I'm remembering things right, Paxton plays some drummer or a waiter over on Fire Street, and then the Bombers just knock his teeth out in the very first fight, leaving him to spend the rest of the movie looking like he's missing half his smile😁

I actually sat down and watched this just a couple of months ago on a remastered double-disc DVD set. Honestly? It was absolutely stunning—the quality was top-tier and truly a masterpiece!

It feels like Bill Paxton is essentially revisiting his role as Hudson from Aliens here...
Personally, I thought the movie was great—it’s a sequel that actually lives up to the original Predator.

I think it’s a fantastic movie. Sure, it might not reach the heights of the original, but it's still an absolute blast...

So, I just knocked out a mini Predator marathon—only the first two, though—and honestly, I can't wrap my head around the people who absolutely trash this movie.

Sure, aside from the creature itself and its brutal kill style, it’s a completely different vibe. Personally, I love that they moved it to an urban setting and made the lead a cop. It works.

Some folks might not care for how it ends, but they clearly don't know the first thing about Predator or what makes this franchise tick.

To me, the second one’s basically just an action flick, while the third feels more like straight horror since it lacks that constant punch of action scenes. In the original, they nailed the balance—just the right amount of action mixed with that deep, gritty atmosphere. The first movie blends both genres perfectly, whereas the sequels lean way too hard into one or the other. That’s why the second and third entries don't even come close to the original, though they're still decent enough watches if you've got the time.

The third one is just a massive flop compared to the original. Nothing more, nothing less.

Fair point. But since they moved the setting back to the wilderness, at least it's not happening on our planet. Personally, I dig the second one way more than the third—the leads are actual badasses, there's better action, and you've got a single Predator that causes way more chaos than the whole squad in the third film combined. My only gripe is the location. It should've been set in some small forest town, kind of like the vibe in AVP 2, instead of right in the middle of Los Angeles.

Even though Predator 2 was my absolute favorite growing up, even back then it felt way weaker than the original, there’s just one specific thing about it that I will never stop rewatching:

Man, that one sequence is easily one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen in a movie; I don't even know how it's possible that someone like me, who has watched a literal mountain of horror films, can still find this much unsettling and creepy, but it really is.

I mean, that whole setup inside that cold storage unit is just straight-up terrifying.
I keep thinking about it, and honestly, I think it hits so hard because of that sense of total isolation—being trapped in there with this lethal creature from another planet where everything is just quiet and freezing, and then he starts picking them off one by one until the detective is left all alone with him. And since the Predator can go invisible, you've got that looming threat of self-destruction if you actually manage to beat him; when you're staring down a 1-on-1 fight, he feels totally unstoppable, and if you look at it realistically, what kind of chance does an average guy even have against something like that?
Plus, the atmosphere is just perfect, with all those deep blue tones, and you can't help but stare in awe at how powerful the Predator is—he looks almost human, yet he's so much bigger and stronger, decked out in all that high-tech weaponry and just having such an imposing presence.

Seriously, I get so sucked into the moment while watching that scene, and even when I'm just chilling, watching it gives me actual goosebumps. 😁

I might actually dig the second one even more, though the first one was totally solid too 👍

Man, you really dug this thread up after four and a half years! Honestly, even though the critics absolutely tore it apart when it first hit theaters, I still think the movie is a totally worthy successor to the original.

They really need to put together a decent third installment. Honestly, "Predators" had some potential, even if it ended up being a bit weak, but those two AvP movies? Total garbage. Don't even get me started.

I’m jumping on the bandwagon here too. Seriously, what a ride. It’s a great flick—I really dug how they kept the Predator kind of lurking in the background at first before it just completely takes over the whole damn movie. Those action sequences? Top-tier stuff. They were paced perfectly and executed so well. Honestly, they should definitely make another one.

It is such a shame that Danny Glover has been stuck in so many B-movies lately!

That is precisely why it is so disappointing! He is a phenomenal actor. It seems Hollywood just grinds down older talent, forcing them to accept ridiculous scripts that don't match their caliber at all!
