So I’ve been scrolling through pretty much all the posts here, mostly because my own backside started acting up too...
Last year, after seeing some blood, I had to get a rectoscopy and a colonoscopy. First part went down about 10 inches, then the second part went down two meters into the colon. Read that right—two meters!!!
Had to do a massive enema before they could even start. The exam didn't show anything major, just some internal hemorrhoids and a few small external ones that itch more than they hurt.
Since there wasn't any pain, I just accepted it was part of life. My bathroom routine is super regular every morning, and since wiping leaves me feeling gross, I just hop over the tub and rinse off with a lukewarm shower. Been doing that for over 20 years.
But a week ago, out of nowhere, this sharp, cutting pain hit me and sent me straight to hell. I've been using Faktu cream and now their suppositories. I also got some Dolocaine ointment, but that's just an anesthetic—it doesn't actually fix the damn thing. Plus, the pharmacist gave me some other ointment that I'm shoving in there as deep as I can, because honestly, it feels like even a toothpick would be too thick, let alone a finger.
Might be worth mentioning I developed this while out on disability after a car accident. Spent the whole time just sitting or lying around at home, zero physical activity, just TV and computer.
It hurts all day long, and it only settles down enough at night for me to actually get some sleep.
I skipped my BM this morning on purpose to see if it helps with the pain, so we'll see how tomorrow goes.
What actually works for me is light walking; staying seated or lying down is the worst.
Also, fair warning: a colonoscopy isn't painful because they're shoving a camera tube in your ass, it's because they pump you full of air to stretch out the intestinal folds so they can see everything. That air causes crazy cramps and stomach pain. If you can, the best way to help yourself is to just fart as much as possible during the procedure. Don't worry about being rude; the doctor who did mine literally told me to do it.
Basically, while you're lying on your side, rub your stomach with one hand and try to force those gas bubbles out—it really helps. After it was over, I hopped in my car and had to pull over five minutes later just so I could vent properly. 😁
Btw, anyone know a good proctologist in the San Francisco area? I might just go for surgery to get this crap over with once and for all.
