Mosquito bites and stings

I've got this mosquito bite that's swollen up like crazy—we're talking 10 to 15 cm in diameter here.😲

It hurts like hell, too. Yesterday, it looked like just your run-of-the-mill mosquito bite, but then it blew up overnight. I've been messing around with various creams all day today, and it’s like a roller coaster: it shrinks for a little bit, then swells right back up again. It's constant.🤷

What would you guys recommend? Any specific meds? Right now, I'm using Benadryl, and while it helps shrink the swelling for maybe half an hour, about two hours later, it's right back to its original size. I've tried everything under the sun: whiskey, warm water, rubbing alcohol, lemon juice, even aspirin, but nothing seems to stick. Is it possible this has turned into an infection?😕

I'm not entirely sure I can be of much help... but how can you be so certain it was caused by mosquitoes? 😲

I’m 100% sure it was a mosquito. At first, it just looked like a typical bite, but then the whole area started acting up. If it had been something like a bee, you would have actually felt the stinger left inside ☕

Come on, give us the lowdown so we actually know how to handle it if we get bitten too.

I’ve been sticking to a routine for two days now: taking Benadryl four times a day to try and dial back the redness, plus hitting the shower with cold water twice a day to help with the swelling. Before I head to bed, I also pour hot water over the bite—it stings a bit at first, but it actually works because it basically jams the heat receptors. It tricks your brain into thinking the water is just room temperature, which kills the itching long enough for you to finally pass out.

Last summer, I relied on various mosquito tablets and liquid repellents, but they proved completely useless against the tiger mosquitoes. My two daughters are suffering from intense, long-lasting swelling every time they get bitten, and we even tried those kid-friendly bracelets, but they were a total waste of time. Does anyone know of an actually effective spray or cream? I am at my wit's end trying to defend them.

Alright, what is actually going on with the mosquitoes this year? Over at my place (near the cornfields 🙄), they are absolutely out of control! They start showing up in the shade around 5 p.m., and as soon as it cools down just a bit, they’re out in the sun in massive swarms. It’s becoming impossible to live—I can't even open the windows at the house. On top of that, these weird, mutated ones have popped up too; they're like twice the size of a normal mosquito and way more aggressive (are those the tiger ones?). It's a total nightmare... I've already been eaten alive, and summer hasn't even really started yet.

Have those mosquitoes made their way into Washington, D.C. yet?

I have to admit, things have gone completely haywire this year. I’ve always been prone to bites, but we’re only five months in and I’ve already dealt with about ten. And let me tell you, these aren't those lazy mosquitoes that wait for you to settle in before they strike; these ones go straight for your face and eyes, showing absolutely no respect for time or place.

Is it normal to have this massive swelling that's still spreading four days after a mosquito bite? (I know it was a mosquito because I actually managed to swat it).

How should I handle this? Should I just head to the ER, or try to get a referral and wait for a dermatologist appointment? Honestly, this feels pretty urgent to me, and the fact that it keeps expanding is starting to freak me out.

I know it sounds weird, but I'm low-key panicking here, so here’s a photo. Is it even possible for this to be just a reaction to a mosquito bite? I haven't even been scratching at it.

Out here in California, it feels like everything is being swarmed by tiger mosquitoes this year... even though it’s early, we're only in May, but you can see them everywhere in broad daylight.🙄
You can't even take the kids out to the park swings without getting eaten alive. I've already got 20 bites—four on my butt and the rest all over my legs. Those tiger mosquitoes itch like hell once they get you; I catch myself scratching until I'm actually bleeding.
My advice? Grab some Flonidan syrup or Rinolan if you end up having an allergic reaction to the bites.☕

So, a mosquito bit me—standard procedure, right?—and because I couldn't leave well enough alone, I ended up messing with it, and now the whole thing is looking pretty infected. Does anyone have any advice on a good cream or something else to clear this up?
Do I really need to go see a doctor for this? I’m generally not the type of person who runs to a clinic for every little scratch or bump.

Why run to the doctor right away?
Just hit up a pharmacy, show the pharmacist what's going on, and they'll hook you up with something...
Probably some Benadryl gel or something like that...

What's the deal on my end?
