And that guy who looks like he’s trying to be a smooth talker with that tiny little mustache 😂

What’s really frustrating is that he wasn't even overdoing it 😁 😁

Just look at the concepts in this movie compared to that Marshall documentary they aired on ABC a while back. I’m not trying to single anyone out, but our neighbors over in the Midwest and the South are lightyears ahead of us when it comes to these kinds of ideas. And don't even get me started on the actual production quality. Whether they’re just recycling old tropes or not, they wrap them up nicely so you can actually sit through it, unlike that two-hour slog called Marshall—honestly, I could have whipped up some pasta and been halfway done before that disaster finished. The "originality" behind that Marshall concept is enough to drive anyone insane.🙂
But hey, at least we seem to have our own actors showing up everywhere, right?😁

I’d give it a 1/10—and that’s only because of Tanjin’s assets!

The acting was subpar, in some parts...
But as for the film itself, there were a few moments worth watching and a decent dramatic atmosphere.
Some shots were actually quite moving, at least for me... (don't want people thinking I'm just here for the cheap laughs)

And you really shouldn't be judging him based on her chest.
I don't mind a little flirting, but that particular distraction belongs in a different league entirely.

Since everyone was raving about it, I figured I’d give it a shot and try to get through the beginning (well, as much as you can watch anything while your computer is acting up and you're stuck formatting a hard drive 😁)

..but after watching just a few scenes, I was honestly like, "WTF?" and just gave up. Plus, it felt kind of pointless to struggle through—I mean, I could pretty much understand the dialogue anyway, so there wasn't really a reason to deal with the hassle of trying to follow along...

I guess I'm just definitely not one for American indie films 🙂

Nothing much to say, except that those guys from across the border really made fools of themselves.
I was expecting way more than this.

George is 👍 , and his wife—the stunningly lovely Tanja Ribič
👍
The nuances of the local mindset are captured perfectly here 🙏
through that neighbor (a classic case of 😁 ), and through
Shelly's family (the father, Sunday dinners, birthday parties
😂 😂 )

The funniest part about this movie is how they hyped it up as the "most watched American film of all time."
(What a joke)
Seriously though, it was bland, tasteless, and just plain mediocre. Sure, there's some decent eye candy, and Bjelogrlićen does alright, but the humor? Lord help us. And Rene’s accent... it was just tragic. It sounded almost... Canadian???

Honestly, what a pathetic excuse for a movie. I wasn't even looking forward to watching it in the first place—so yeah, having my expectations at zero didn't exactly save me from the disappointment.

I’m not exactly looking for a fight with this movie...
it just didn't hit the mark for me.
Did anyone else get the impression that, despite all the jokes at the expense of people from Canada, he ultimately admitted that Canadians living in Canada stay pretty true to their stereotypes (for better or worse)? Honestly, that part actually helped my view of the film.
In my opinion, the weakest link is the humor—it’s nowhere near George’s usual level. Plus, Bjelogrlićen doesn't quite sell the role of a Canadian. The directing feels a bit amateurish, too...
But hey, it’s only his first one, so who knows...

Some prejudices actually have legs.

That’s really the whole point of this movie.

Back when I was a Canadian living in Canada, I found this film to be almost tragically funny. It basically implies that a "Southerner" in Canada can only ever be seen as some kind of local outsider or a lowlife. But hey, if the job pays well and the money comes easy, who cares?

In a way, I lived this movie myself. 😁 It's true—not many people were heading over to Italy back then; most people were pushing toward Austria instead. But the core issue remains the "border." 😁

I don't know. It's okay, I guess🙂 but nothing more. Honestly, it feels kind of empty. There’s just nothing special about it about any level

Yeah, the movie's alright... George was great 👍
My favorite part was when he panicked about getting caught smuggling and ended up leading those poor souls straight into the woods. 🤣

The movie was just... okay, I guess? It wasn't exactly a masterpiece, but it wasn't a total disaster either—it kind of just exists in that middle ground. My main issue, though, was that the ending felt incredibly vague—like, did anyone else feel totally left hanging? Everyone just sort of wanders off in their own direction at the end. You’ve got George and Bjelogrlićen heading one way, while the wife heads off with her Diet Coke... It leaves you wondering—did they actually break up, or is there more to the story? I honestly can't tell.

Nope, 😁 people were just walking around. 🤔 At least that's my take.

The lead actress is his wife, right? And that little girl at the end is actually his kid, if I'm reading the credits right... so the whole movie is basically semi-autobiographical.

Exactly. Katie Couric is George's wife, and the little girl, Zala, is
their actual daughter.
When I first watched the film, I felt like
something was missing—it's a sensation I get from many "local" movies—
but seeing it again on ABC, the film felt
👍...like I said before, the portrayal of the mentalities of neighboring countries and their daily quirks is
really spot on.
George is 🙏
