I'm gonna go grab a copy from the local video rental shop tomorrow
I've heard good things about it, actually

Honestly, if you're into stuff like Ogres.com, then this movie is right up your alley

Ugh, a Dahmer type? That guy was basically decorating his room with skull ornaments and bone lamp stands 🙂))

By the way, I agree about the attractive cast—it’s an unnecessary ingredient for a slasher. Using average, realistic actors who happen to be decent-looking creates a much more relaxed, everyday vibe. That opening scene where he shoots him in the mouth is striking and well-executed, but the impact thins out later because the acting is mediocre, sacrificed for the protagonist's above-average build. The scenes where they arrive at the "abandoned" house with the person in the wheelchair are excellent, despite my gripe. If they had cast different actors (that curly-haired one is particularly bad), this movie could have been significantly better. I saw the original a few years back; I don't remember it vividly, but I suspect the acting was stronger. Standards were just different back then compared to what we look for today 😳

Speaking of Tobe Hooper, has anyone seen Toolbox Murders or the remake also directed by Hooper? I'm dying to see them! 😛

I feel like the movie didn't really have enough scary scenes. 😁

I was watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, so I guess that's what I had in mind. 😁

So yeah, there was some pacing here and there, but that's about it. Mostly just filler.

Still, I was thinking about what anyone would actually do in that situation—like stumbling onto some psycho who kidnaps you, drags you back to some hole in the woods, and just slowly tortures and hacks away at you... all for no reason other than their own sick amusement. So many people have been lost to maniacs like that. It's messed up... Oh, you guys are saying this isn't the psychology subforum? 😁

I hear it's actually decent.

If you’re into stuff like horror sites, you'll probably dig this film.

So... is it any good?

So I finally sat down and watched this film last night, and man, 😱 it’s absolutely brutal. The cinematography is intense, especially that basement scene—all that water, the meat hooks, the remains... but that ending where he gets taken out by those wires? What the hell was that?! Was that in the original book since I haven't read it, or did they just add it to mess with our heads? 😲 😁

Honestly, it misses a few beats here and there... I won't get into all that right now, but it’s just 😱 freaking terrifying. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a horror this raw. Most of the big Hollywood blockbusters these days are pretty mindless, but this one hits different... 😲

It’s been a long time since I sat through a horror film this brutal, especially since most of what Hollywood churns out lately are just mindless blockbusters that lack any real substance or soul... but this one is something else entirely...😲

😁

It isn't exactly a masterpiece, nor is it particularly brutal, but by today’s Hollywood standards, it holds its own... Personally, I found Wrong Turn to be a better experience than most of those recent big-budget horror releases...

Well, honestly... it was just okay... I wasn't even a huge fan of the original myself 🙂

I definitely think that new wave of stuff like Cabin Fever and/or Wrong Turn is way better

Is TCM actually scary? To me, it felt more like a comedy. Maybe I'm just crazy 🙂

it’s just overkill.
There isn't even any actual horror here. It doesn't build tension; it just relies on senseless nihilism and pure sadism.

For me, the scariest part was the fake premise—that whole "based on a true story" gimmick.
🙄

What a total lie.

Clearly, you haven't actually experienced what a brutal horror film looks like...

Such a blatant lie...
🙄

The movie is supposedly inspired by the life of Ed Gein, that serial killer from Wisconsin, so if you're interested, look him up online; he may have only killed two people, but the man was a necrophile who dug bodies out of graves and decorated his house with skulls and bones, not to mention skinning his victims... basically, TCM is pure fiction, even if it uses a template...

Where the hell is the dinner scene with the family??? That was my favorite part of the original, and they just cut it out here!!!!! Absolute robbery!!! 😁 And they didn't even include Leatherface cursing when he swerves, you know, struggling with that heavy bike trying to make a sharp turn... hehehe, those were the classic moments in the original and they're totally missing here. 😢

😲 😲

In the last few years, the scene in Frailty where we see Powers Boothe kill his mother is probably what creeped me out the most. 😱 It’s a prejeben movie—but honestly, it isn't strictly a horror film, so I can't really list it here as one of the best horrors from recent years. 😛

Just finished watching Dostoyevsky—
Even most of the movies they run on those dedicated horror channels on satellite TV...
Most of what happens here is just mindless bashing and selling out directors. It’s nothing but constant nitpicking and tearing people down.
☕

Any idiot could whip up a horror movie like that.

Sure, he only killed two people, but the guy was a necrophile who dug bodies out of graves and decorated his house with skulls and bones. He even skinned the women he murdered—just total depravity. So, if you want the truth: TCM is basically pure fiction. It's just a story inspired by a pattern.

I’ve already covered this on this forum.
I’ve actually been thinking about this exact topic on this thread for months now.

Look, let's get one thing straight: Ed Gein wasn't some brutal monster hunting living people. You can't even label him a serial killer, because there weren't multiple victims found, and he never bragged about committing a string of murders. It just doesn't fit the profile.
He didn't even use a chainsaw—so yeah, the whole movie is 100% pure fiction.
☕
He lived in some tiny rural town—I actually checked the map down to the specific street where he grew up. It was a total backwater. Those people there used to skin livestock for a living, so that’s how he learned the technique. It wasn't some random impulse to kill; it was a skill he picked up from them. Sure, the guy was disturbed. He had this sick obsession with corpses, but he wasn't nearly as brutal as what we're seeing in this movie.

The inspiration for that cannibal family story actually stems from some old legends about a clan living in a cave out in the Scottish Highlands—a whole thing that supposedly went down hundreds of years ago. Since we're talking history here, I have to wonder how much of this is actual fact versus just tall tales from hunters and some fake-ass rural lectures designed to sound authentic.

Can't find one right now.
Anyway, I saw a link on an old IMDb forum back--
when you could still read stuff without having to register.
I’m not bothering with making an account now.

Bottom line, there are a couple of websites dedicated to this family.

From what I remember,
some guy and a woman fled town, moved into a cave, and ended up breeding a whole pack of kids.
Eventually, they started hunting people passing through the woods--
and eating them.
The police got suspicious when people started vanishing—
then the manhunt kicked off.
I can't recall how they even found out about them; I think someone managed to escape the cave and tipped off the cops...
And then it just follows with descriptions of how they hunted them down inside the cave.

Pure horror story.

And instead of actually filming a movie based on that, they just keep churning out remakes of the classics.
