Just rewatched that movie. Everything feels pretty condensed in the last thirty minutes, but man, those scenes hit hard. Like when those two girls bolt from the van and he catches one of them—they don't show the actual cutting, which I guess is for the best, but that shot where we're looking at him from behind as he leans over her to start sawing, with bits and pieces flying everywhere? Intense. Or when they hang that guy from the light fixture and then... uff... 😱

bottom line—this movie is a total waste of time.

I watched that idiotic remake and, as I previously stated, it was pure stupidity. The family lacks any real grit compared to the brilliant, bloodthirsty maniacs and cannibals from the original. It’s also completely unbelievable that they act like everything is fine while their son is out murdering people. Then there’s that absurd motive about him wearing a mask because of some skin condition. None of the logic behind him killing people and impaling them even makes sense. In the original, he was a cannibal, which worked perfectly; here, he isn't, so it falls flat. Plus, the young actors are so irritatingly mediocre that it actually hurts; I was just sitting there waiting for them to be killed off. That bit where the girl kills the guy just because he won't leave her alone was laughable. Pure nonsense, including the ending. The worst part has to be when they cut his arm off, for heaven's sake. And having so few victims barely made him a threat, let alone someone they could defend themselves against. Then there's that mindless sequence where he throws the girl into the basement, only to somehow find out she's escaping and then have to chase them with a chainsaw through some labyrinthine cellar. Why didn't he just impale her like the girl in the original?
The only redeeming qualities are the nudity during the scene where Leatherface tosses a piece into the basement, and that sequence where he chases the young man through the yard in the brush—those scenes were actually decent... gave me chills, especially when he seasons the guy's severed leg.
The worst part is they’re filming a prequel set during Leatherface's childhood. Absolute garbage. 🙂 Even the third installment is better than this remake.

One final road trip before heading off to serve in Vietnam, two friends (Handley and Bomer) along with their girlfriends (Baird and Brewster) end up in an accident that brings the local sheriff (Ermey) to the scene. It kicks off a nightmare when the group is hauled off to a remote house of horrors, where a budding killer is being raised...

Seems like everyone is obsessed with "beginnings" lately... 😁

By the way, the guy behind this also directed Darkness Falls, which was just another mediocre horror flick...

I caught that movie on one of the major networks the other day (didn't see the original version)... and honestly? It was a total letdown. Sure, there are some revolting scenes, but as far as being genuinely terrifying goes, it didn't move the needle for me at all.

In truth, watching these kinds of films just leaves me feeling agitated rather than scared. What irritates me most is that predictable trope where the killer is relentlessly pursuing someone, only for the victim to suddenly stumble upon some weapon, bash the killer over the head a couple of times, toss the tool aside, and just keep running.😵 🙄

That’s standard slasher fare. Just look at Friday the 13th—how many times do victims just wrestle with Jason Voorhees and then bolt? Or even Wrong Turn...
Besides, even Torstein Fausberg himself—arguously the only decent Leatherface—asked: Why bother remaking a great film?...
Horror classics are always superior. And I should mention: in the original, the house felt like an actual house of horrors where you immediately knew psychopaths lived there. In the remake, the place looks spotless, with zero indication that anyone insane resides inside.
And what "disgusting scenes" are we talking about? Besides, how is Leatherface able to hunt those idiots in broad daylight without anyone hearing or seeing a thing?...
This is why you stick to the originals instead of remakes (with the exception of the creation)...

I think Gunnar Hansen is missing the point, because playing a role like Leatherface is an entirely different beast, and sometimes you need a remake just to make a story resonate with a modern audience, especially since the original is over thirty years old now... I’m not exactly out here defending this specific remake, but there have been plenty of solid ones, take Dawn of the Dead for example... sure, it didn't touch the original, but it was still a good film...

You really ought to see both sides, because Cronenberg's The Fly is technically a remake and easily one of the best horror movies ever made...🙂
