If you notice any yellow or green tint in the mucus, it’s usually a sign of an infection that likely requires medical treatment. However, if it stays clear, you might just be dealing with some seasonal allergies or something similar—though I'd still recommend checking in with your doctor just to be safe.

Here we go. Bringing this topic back from the dead since cold season is officially upon us! 😁

My throat was killing me this morning, and by the end of the day, I was convinced the classic flu symptoms were moving in.
Thankfully, I managed to load up on garlic in the meantime.
Now, as evening rolls around, I’m settling in with some hot soup loaded with pepper.

It honestly seems like these remedies actually work. 🎉

That said, can anyone explain why my throat usually stings right when I wake up, but the second I take a sip of hot tea (or coffee), the pain vanishes?
Is it actually possible that the heat just flushes those nasty bacteria down into the esophagus?
Btw, I am a smoker.

It’s mostly because things dry out overnight—especially if you're a mouth breather or if you have the central heating cranked up—and honestly, even smoking won't help fix that.

It’s also totally possible that the liquid is just washing acid out of your mouth and esophagus... if your throat is constantly sore in the mornings (aside from the smoking), you might be dealing with acid reflux or something similar, so definitely check in with a doctor if that's the case...
As for the smoking... try to cut back at least... 👍

I don't smoke much—maybe two or three cigarettes a day at most.
As for the central heating... yeah, you've got a point there. It's absolutely stifling, and I'm not even allowed to crack a window open. 🙄
And I really don't have any stomach issues. My digestion is perfectly fine.

I thought I’d jump into this discussion as well, mostly because I’ve come down with another cold, and honestly, being sick for the third time in just two months is starting to drive me absolutely crazy 😠
I simply cannot handle the winter months, and it seems like every single time the temperature drops, I end up dealing with either a sore throat or a full-blown cold. It really feels like my immune system is just failing me lately, so I’m planning on taking some serious steps to address this moving forward 😁
In the past, my doctor would typically prescribe antibiotics, which honestly felt like they were destroying my body, whether I was dealing with the flu, a common cold, strep throat, or just a nasty inflammation... I experienced almost every side effect imaginable, from dizziness and nausea to changes in my sense of taste and smell, skin issues, and even sleeping for twelve hours straight. When I finally voiced these concerns, she basically told me that if the medication didn't work for me, I should just go find something else at a drugstore 🙄 since then, I’ve mostly been managing things on my own.
It isn't that I don't try to take precautions, but you can never be careful enough, I suppose. I just can't wrap my head around how I can feel perfectly fine one day, only to wake up the next morning struggling to breathe, coughing up mucus, and dealing with a raw, inflamed throat 😕
On top of all that, I usually lose my voice about twice a year, which makes it impossible to even get through a simple conversation. Someone suggested I might need more calcium, though I truly believe I get enough through my diet 🤷 and a pharmacist once mentioned that I probably strain my vocal cords too much and really need to learn how to breathe properly and speak through my nose

I won't ramble on any longer, but if anyone happens to have some helpful advice or a suggestion that actually works, I would be so incredibly grateful to hear it 😉

So, tell me—how often are you getting moving these days? I mean, actual physical activity and all that.
I used to struggle with the exact same issues you’re dealing with. Eventually, I started being more active and swapped out the sugary drinks for sugar-free lemonades... and it felt like my immune system finally leveled up.
I went from catching a cold twice a month to maybe twice a year.😍

Here’s the situation... I've come down with a cold, and naturally, my nose is running. But there's a catch. It isn't normal mucus; we're talking green, yellow, and even reddish tints. On top of that, there is a distinct, unpleasant odor coming from my sinuses...
🤷🤷🤷
I am trying to understand what exactly causes that specific smell and why the discharge has changed color like this.

Thanks.

Does anyone actually have a clue? I’ve started doing steam inhalations and adding drops of eucalyptus oil to the water. Hoping it helps... Anyone here tried this before?

If you've got sinus congestion and that brick-red discharge, yeah, it’s totally normal for it to smell gross. You should probably head to the doctor to get some
antibiotics before this whole thing turns into chronic sinusitis. 🙂

Yeah, you were right... Sinus infection hit me hard. Got prescribed some Augmentin today, but this stench—this actual pus coming out of my nose—is unbearable... I can't deal with this anymore...😕😕😕😕

If you happen to be near the coast—specifically somewhere where the water is actually pristine—then just try "inhaling" that ocean air. It might help; I’d suggest making it a morning and evening ritual.
If there isn't an ocean within driving distance, then you could try a DIY solution using about a liter to a liter and a half of bottled water—preferably high-quality stuff.
Boil it, then stir in a teaspoon of baking soda along with two very full teaspoons of coarse sea salt.
Once it cools down, pour it into a bottle and keep it in the fridge. As needed, every morning and evening (right before bed), take a little bit out, grind it down, and use a 20cc syringe to draw the liquid up.
Then, plug one nostril and spray the solution into the other, repeating the process for the second side. Just swallow the rest. It’s a bit unpleasant, I suppose, but it's worth it.
You really ought to do this over the sink, though, because things tend to spill. 😁.
Anyway, I hope this helps; it has always been my saving grace, and it was actually recommended to me years ago by a highly regarded specialist at the Mayo Clinic. 👍
Consistency is key, I guess.

Is there some kind of virus going around lately? I’ve been dealing with a fever hitting 100.4, a cough, and constant congestion for three days now—just lovely.☕

It seems like you're always catching some kind of bug😁

You should probably give your doctor a call since you've got a fever...

I’ve completely lost my voice thanks to this nasty cold I picked up. I know that taking some effervescent Calcium or Magnesium can help speed up the recovery process, but my brain is just totally blanking on which one actually helps with the throat. Does anyone happen to remember?

I caught a nasty bug last Friday. My nose is completely stuffed up—I can barely breathe through it. Then I woke up yesterday with my mouth feeling bone-dry.
Anyway, I got hit with this brutal dizzy spell while I was at work yesterday.
Has anyone else dealt with this when you're coming down with a cold or some kind of virus?
I’m guessing it’s because my nose is clogged, sometimes my ears feel blocked too, and I’ve already got some issues with my cervical spine.
It’s such a disgusting feeling!
Then last night, my heart started pounding so loud in my chest. It wasn't even racing super fast, just heavy, but I was so freaked out I couldn't sleep.

Today feels like a bit of a chill in the air.

Are all these things actually possible symptoms of a common cold or a virus?

So, I'm 20. A couple of days ago I was riding the bus and I’m pretty sure I picked up some kind of bug, and 🙂 to make a long story short... 😢
This might sound totally ridiculous to you guys, but I literally cannot sneeze. It's actually stressing me out because my friend told me that if you don't force a sneeze when you're sick, all that air you're supposed to be pushing out just gets forced back into your lungs and can cause some kind of infection 😲 so now I'm wondering if there's any actual truth to that?
Also, I've been dealing with this weird, unbearable stomach pain lately, so if anyone could just, like, list out the symptoms for cancer or tumors—or am I just pregnant? 🤔
Do I seriously need to go see a doctor 😢, and one last thing: what's the best tea for the flu? 🙄
please help, literally any advice would be huge ☕
