So, apparently the American dub for "The Lion King" isn't any good.

Hmm...🤔...I guess I might take the risk and watch it just once. Even though I know it won't even come close to the original... I mean, having Jeremy Irons voicing Scar... HELLO?! I don't think anyone in our country could ever top that performance.

To be fair, my past experiences with American dubs have been pretty solid. For instance, I actually think "The Flintstones" or "Raccoons" turned out better than the originals.

On the flip side, you had FOX and Kristijan Ugrina coming along with what might be the worst dubs in human history.🙂

Back in '81, link had a sequel, Heavy Metal FAKK from 2000.
We should probably also bring up Wizards from '77, which was likely the first animated flick to pack that much violence (correct me if I'm wrong).
The common thread is that all three are total junk

I’m a huge fan of animation myself😁 ... so if you're looking for something to watch... well, if you haven't seen them yet, check out Surrogate is wild🙂 and alongside it, there's Last Space Cowboy which is a bit older (maybe around 11 or 12 years old) but it's excellent👍 ... I hope that helps you out just a little bit

The Asterix and Obelix cartoons are terrible. They totally ruined the comics for me!!!! The Asterix comics are where it's at.

Hmm... I mean, let's be honest, most animated movies based on comics or manga aren't actually better than the original source material. But I guess that doesn't necessarily mean they're garbage or not worth a watch.

It’s actually an animated omnibus.
It’s basically a collection of loosely connected stories that vary quite a bit in terms of animation style and overall quality. They were all inspired by comics featured in the fantasy/sci-fi magazine Heavy Metal, which was curated by Kevin Eastman.

One of the more recognizable pieces is "Day" by Richard Corben, which we used to see in Strip Magazine.

Hmm, I see that's a Ralph Bakshi film.
In that case, we really ought to mention his "Fritz the Cat," which was based on the comic by the underground icon Robert Crumb. Interestingly enough, Crumb actually distanced himself from the movie adaptation to such an extent that he ended up killing off Fritz in the comics shortly after, claiming that Bakshi had watered down the character—though, let's be honest, the cartoon isn't exactly for kids, given it carries an 'X' rating. 😁

Yeah, yeah... I know. I was just asking because I wasn't entirely sure if that was the one being talked about.

Ugh... man, that was a long time ago. 🤔

Anyway, does anyone here actually know what the deal is with the animated movie selection at our local video rental stores?

I never even bother asking, honestly, because I already know my local spots either have nothing at all, or they only carry the absolute latest releases.

I was watching them yesterday and today.

'Asterix in Britain' is way better than 'Asterix the Gaul' or 'Asterix and Cleopatra'..

Does anyone know when 'Britain' was actually made? 'Cleopatra' came out around '65.

Tomorrow I'm going to check out 'Against Caesar'... For now, though, my top pick is still 'Asterix and the Twelve Tasks,' which unfortunately won't be shown. 😢
