There's even some new characters coming out... like Puss in Boots... and Prince Charming.... but I'm not gonna list everything for you... The premiere should be hitting theaters around May 2004.

I just watched the teaser for the sequel... I honestly can't wait to see this hit theaters!
Here’s the link... I guess you can just check it out for yourselves. Shrek 2

Oh God... are they seriously making another sequel to that disaster? 😲

Just when I thought those haters had finally learned their lesson, I actually have a little extra cash on hand, so now I’m feeling like grabbing even more.

I guess Shrek 2 finally got the ending it actually deserved, just like the first one did. 👎 (Or even better, like The Jungle Book 2) 😂 )

To be honest, I didn't think Shrek was all that great.

It wasn't exactly pure Humor; everything just seemed to revolve around twisting fairy tale tropes, which started to feel pretty exhausting after a while. Even the whole big reveal where Fiona turns into a green creature just like Shrek felt 👎—it wasn't actually subversive at all, you know? It was basically exactly what everyone expected it to be.

Regarding the Humor, and a bunch of other things in Shrek.

What really got under my skin was how unbalanced the whole thing felt, and the comedy was where that imbalance was most obvious.

Basically, we were looking at a textbook example of the flaw found in many big-studio American animated films. They’re built for kids, yet they try way too hard to appeal to adults, solely with the goal of dragging more people into theaters to grab their cash. That's why you feel this constant lack of balance throughout the entire movie. (If you want to interpret that as a lack of direction, you can 😂 ).

For instance... there were several moments in Shrek where they leaned into what people call "penis jokes." Look, I don't have an issue with them, despite the fact that those kinds of "jokes" are considered a lower form of comedy. BECAUSE, if they're used correctly, at the right moment, and with actual purpose, then they can actually be 👍. (Just so nobody thinks I'm one of those people who believes kids' cartoons have to be perfectly wholesome 🙄 )

So, I guess I have to ask you guys: what's the point of dropping a joke like that—especially a veiled one—that kids don't even stand a chance of getting??? There isn't one. And because of that, we get these moments throughout the film where something just pops out and breaks the entire concept of the movie. (And that's not even touching on the other issues Richard Hernandez13 already pointed out).

Is this an animated comedy?
Thanks for the heads-up, I hadn't realized, since I wasn't really laughing much.
But anyway, I watched it on DivX, and I barely heard anything because the music was blasting right in my ears.

I watched what I consider to be the greatest film, animation, CGI feature, whatever you want to call it, yesterday.

Top-tier storytelling, incredible characters, just everything...

I'm still so blown away by it that I’m practically speechless...

I thought about starting a thread, but someone will surely do that eventually... for now, I just recommend everyone watch this film

Why is everyone freaking out?

The guy just asked for an animation recommendation, so I shared my absolute favorite, and honestly, I don't see where it says my choice has to be everyone's favorite.🙄

Melissa Moore32 said:Is that the full old one, from the 80s or maybe even earlier?

Some kind of semi-fantasy with horror elements?

You got it, legend... Man, I wish someone would remember those good old educational ones once in a while...

My first instinct was to start a whole discussion thread here... but I'm sure someone will eventually get around to it... so for now, I am wholeheartedly recommending that everyone goes out and watches this film:

Ice Age, naturally.
The Last Unicorn.
Shrek—yeah, I’m definitely adding that to the list.
A Christmas Carol, though Mickey Mouse & Co. gave their own interpretation.
Aladdin (the law).

I was thinking about one particular fantasy film today...

It’s a bit older, I think it came out around '86 if I recall correctly, and it's called The Flight of Dragons.

So, I watched that thing a long, long, long, long time ago. I was just a kid back then—probably even bigger than I am now, I guess. 😁...and honestly, I still remember it pretty vividly.

Anyway, I finally sat down today, remembered the title, and tracked down a few links. It looks like everyone is saying the exact same thing: that the movie is absolute garbage. It’s funny, really. Everyone seems to be following this identical script along the lines of, "Man, when I first saw this, I thought it was great, but now? I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole." It's pretty interesting how that works. 🤔

I mean, I guess I’m mostly just wondering what my life would even look like today.

Here’s the link, in case anyone actually cares. FotD

Yeah, right. Everyone here is busy typing out these long-winded essays, yet the guy who actually started the thread hasn't said a single word. I guess he's just staying quiet while we all go at it. 😁

I have to say, Asterix vs. Julius Caesar is easily the best one they've ever aired on PBS! 🙂

Q-tion: Where can I find some actually GOOD Japanese animation (that isn't just stuff meant for adults)?

Me too. 👍

I guess I just feel like that old voting system was way, way better than what we have now.

I remember when they used to take us to the movie theater to watch that one back in preschool.

So, look... most of the good stuff is really aimed at an older crowd anyway. Or maybe you mean "for adults," like, in that sense? I guess. 🙂 😁

Shoot me a PM.

Shrek...
Mulan...
Aladdin
Heavy Metal...
Titan A.E... Now there was a film that truly deserved more respect than it ever received during its initial run in theaters here in the States... It had such a distinct, gritty aesthetic that felt worlds away from the polished, sanitized look of most modern CGI features we see today on Netflix or Disney+... I often find myself wandering down memory lane, thinking about those early 2000s animated adventures, and I can't help but feel a certain melancholy regarding how the industry shifted... It possessed a certain soul, a raw edge that seemed to vanish as everything became increasingly streamlined for mass consumption... One simply wonders if we will ever see that level of ambition again in mainstream animation...
Ice Age...
Finding Nemo...
Lord of the Rings...
The Hobbit (I am quite certain most of you were thinking, "Wait, what?" but that animated version actually exists, and it follows the book remarkably closely thanks to some Japanese animators... I was lucky enough to snag a copy on DVD back in the day...)

My tastes might be considered somewhat bizarre by certain standards, I suppose... but regardless, I find myself drawn to anything that possesses genuine quality, one way or another...

Look, I know my taste is a little weird, but honestly? I just love anything that’s actually good, one way or another.

Can I just ask what exactly makes the list above so "bizarre"??? 😕
