Michelle Howard2 said:And you, redowl90—you total blind man—you actually talked me into picking fights with people on your behalf, and now everyone seems incredibly patient with you! Honestly, that ending is so powerful in every single sense that you’d have to be an idiot not to feel it. Even my daughter, who doesn't usually go for this kind of stuff, was absolutely glowing by the end. She turned to me and said, "That was amazing, it was so beautiful... why don't they make more movies like this? How am I supposed to go back to the stuff I used to watch?"

Well, I hope you finally see the light too. 🙂))

My daughter isn't exactly used to this kind of cinema, but she came away from it absolutely glowing. She actually asked me, "That was amazing, why don't they make more movies like this? How am I supposed to go back to the stuff I usually watch now?"

By the way, where did Nineveh disappear to? 🙂Michelle Howard2, tell her to drop by sometime so I’m not the only kid left on this forum.

Michelle Howard2 said:And you, redowl90, you blind fool, you're the one who dragged me into arguing with people on your behalf—people who actually seem incredibly patient with you right now. That ending to the movie is just so well-executed in every single way that you’d have to be an idiot not to feel it.

Hmm, from what I recall, you were defending me because people were attacking me relentlessly and without cause, not because of some supposed failure to "get" the movie... And now, coming from you, I'm suddenly the blind one because I supposedly didn't interpret the film exactly how you all want it interpreted... In other words, if anyone happens to say this film isn't a masterpiece, they clearly know nothing about cinema... Give me a break; even my ten-year-old cousin doesn't think like that.

Regarding Blue Eyes: The thing is, I wasn't the FIRST one to attack you last year... You were the one who started picking fights (which seems to be a recurring theme in your posts toward other members), specifically during my thread about "why we love movies." I wrote one of the best pieces I could muster, and then you started nitpicking, throwing out provocative replies claiming I had terrible taste based on the examples I used (those were just the first ones that came to mind; I wasn't overthinking it or trying to curate a perfect list for the sake of an example)... But YOU always feel the need to find fault in every tiny detail, clinging to every single word like your life depends on it...

Instead of acting as a model for great film knowledge, you just end up being the forum's resident troublemaker... Well, if that's what you're going for, fine... It doesn't bother me...

As for when I called Mickey an idiot... the actual sentence was: "I could probably call you (Mickey) pretty idiotic right now...", but I didn't actually call him that, because I refuse to stoop to your level of insults and toxicity... I wrote the word "idiotic," but not in the context you're claiming—much like how he wrote something along the lines of "you probably hit your head as a kid"... I would never say something like that to someone unless I actually knew them in person, rather than just through text on a screen...

redowl90, you are lying through your teeth... just like how you suddenly developed amnesia and forgot you actually wrote that people who enjoy boring movies would love
Cries and Whispers! I didn't even go after you first during the Stealing Beauty 🙄topic... that was just a debate between me, Taylor Cruz7, and Darin... but then you suddenly burst in like a maniac and started ranting about how much people from the North America like me get on your nerves (probably because I trashed a movie you haven't even seen
)... and you didn't say a single word about the actual film... instead, you just went off on me with all that "lovely" stuff... Taylor Cruz7 can back me up on that
. That was the first time I really clocked you... you gave off the vibe of some pretentious kid who talks a big game but says absolutely NOTHING
.
And thanks a ton for calling me KUCKOM 🙄

Blue Eyes said:Taylor Cruz7 could probably back me up on that too...

Here is the official medical report from Taylor Cruz7's doctor:

The guy was having a total lapse in judgment, which led him to talk an absolute load of nonsense over on the Stealing Beauty topic. He was busy praising the movie alongside Darin, our Literature moderator, mostly because of the pretty scenery and Liv Tyler’s assets—all wrapped up in this fancy "artistry" label he was trying to pass off as deep insight. To be fair, Blue Eyes—who used to go by JBE back then—was just saying what she thought, that the movie was basically fluff, and before you knew it, we were all embroiled in a ten-minute shouting match. Then White came flying in...
Final score: Dinamo-Partizan 5:0

Listen, folks, this thread is dedicated to All or Nothing; let's try to stick to the subject.
If you want to share your sexual revelations, head over to LJESU, and if you feel like picking fights, go hang out with the outlaw over at Politics. Leave this film pristine for us.

Did I ramble too much? Probably. I'm heading out now.😁

Blue Eyes said:redowl90, you're being completely dishonest here...

So, you're actually claiming I attacked you in my "Why We Love Movies" thread??

And as for calling you a bitch... Well, just think back to one of your own threads where you wrote something along the lines of: "...Your mother totally wrecked the entire US Navy..." I can't recall specifically who you were aiming at, but I know those were your words. Based solely on that statement, if nothing else, you earned the "bitch" label.

The truth is, I did call you out because of the Balkanism (honestly, you can't really escape it—all your posts practically scream, "I'm from the North America!!!"), but that happened AFTER you came after me in that movie thread. I mean, why would I be the one to start something? I don't go looking for fights; in fact, I try to avoid that kind of behavior entirely, which is exactly what I define as "Balkanism."

Oh, please... you can't even quote properly if your life depended on it!!!!

I NEVER wrote that above!!!! I think you've confused me with IL...

I'm not denying that I tore into you in that thread (and plenty of others)... but that happened after the Stealing Beauty topic...
Anyway, I'm done arguing with you... either you're lying, or you just don't know anything about movies... 🙄

And besides, that was back during the Stealing Beauty topic...

No, honey, you've got it wrong... I don't lie, especially not on this forum. I mean, why would I? You were the one who attacked me first, and then I just pushed back. Don't try to play innocent now like you don't remember... Dozens of people here can testify that YOU are always the one starting things, so let's not talk nonsense, dear...

And I didn't get that part wrong either. I'm not sure why you're trying to blame IL when it isn't true... Besides, I know a few people who could easily prove it since they've been following all your posts...

I'm not sure if you realize this, but people are WATCHING you on this forum...

People are watching me... sorry, I didn't realize that before, but maybe that's because I'm actually not schizophrenic

Anyway, just something to help refresh your memory 😉

Honestly, you both are being incredibly dense.
I actually came here hoping to read some actual takes on the movie, but a few of you completely ruined the vibe with this mindless bickering. Beyond the fact that you’re fighting over absolute nonsense like a couple of six-year-olds, if you really feel the need to argue, why don't you just take it to a private chat?

Look, I wrote that, but you completely missed the most important part. This happens with most of my posts—people just zero in on whatever they can label as "negative" and completely ignore the rest of what I actually said. My point was that, in a strange way, the movie... Everything. You know what? I actually like it. It’s good. And you were right about one thing—I realized later that acting like being obsessed with Bergman is some kind of essential personality trait just isn't a thing anymore. I mean, if I watch a movie and like it, I just say I like it. I don't need to make a whole production out of it the next day.

ruggedjackal46: Look, I know Blue Eyes and I are acting like total idiots right now. Honestly, just ignore us—we’re just settling some old scores. She actually had the nerve to act all high and mighty in one of her earlier posts here, directed at Taylor Cruz7, saying something along the lines of, "Who would I have lost that to, anyway?" So, now I'm going to prove she can't talk nonsense like that. If you actually care about the movie, just read the first page, because that’s the only part that actually deals with it. To make a long story short: everyone hailed this film as a masterpiece, except for me. I gave it a three. I think someone else felt the same way—I can't recall their name off the top of my head—but as soon as they voiced their opinion, Blue Eyes immediately jumped down their throat, claiming, "That wasn't a critique, it was just a plot summary," right after the guy had specifically asked for feedback on his review. Okay?

Look, I’m that guy. I still don't think this movie is some absolute masterpiece—even if it beats most of the garbage playing in theaters right now. I still think Titanic is a great film. And honestly? I think Pale Blue Eyes has an avatar that's way too pretty. I’d give her the Kate Vinzletov avatar instead. 😉

I honestly can't say. It just didn't resonate with me...
It failed to move me in any capacity, and here I am, three days after watching it, struggling to even recall the details—which is a rare occurrence for me.
The entire narrative felt incredibly transparent. The music is overwhelming, creating a sense of drama for the sake of drama, without any actual substance to back it up.
The lead actor possesses such an inherently expressive presence, which only serves to amplify his performance...
As far as the teenagers in the film go, I did find their transformation quite compelling...
They evolve from screaming brats—essentially just caricatures—into individuals who end up being far more mature than their own parents.
The film handles their development with great skill; their restlessness isn't merely a byproduct of adolescence, but rather a response to genuine, deep-seated frustrations.

Furthermore, the plot remains painfully obvious. That scene where the taxi driver retreats into nature because he’s seemingly fed up with life—well, we understood that motivation from the very opening credits. Leigh makes sure to hammer that point home repeatedly. It feels almost too typical, teetering right on the edge of being a cliché. The final hospital scene suffers from the same predictability.
The French woman's character remains a complete mystery to me. She felt entirely superfluous, uninteresting, and once again, quite predictable (granted, she has her own struggles, despite her comfortable lifestyle).
It felt like cheap manipulation—using the son's heart attack as a device to force the family together.

Darkness, darkness, and nothing but darkness... is there truly nothing beautiful left in the lives of the working class? Not even a fleeting illusion of beauty? Why didn't the film play with that concept? There must be something that sustains a man like Leigh's taxi driver. That is precisely where the tragedy lies. Perhaps whatever fulfills him is something profoundly modest and simple—just the small things. Such an illusion must exist somewhere in his mind just to allow him to survive day after day. Within the context of his circumstances, that could be a incredibly powerful theme.

Just because someone had the audacity to make a film about ordinary people and wasn't Ken Loach doesn't mean the film is actually good. In my opinion, it is terribly overrated.

One should pay attention to the art direction, though. The way the colors of the furniture, the clothing, and the walls all harmonize is quite impressive. Truly, that is the only thing that will stick in my mind after All or Nothing.

Perhaps I should answer my own question..
And there is one more thing I feel compelled to add. Even if the film didn't fully resonate, I believe certain fragments managed to linger in my mind..

The scene where Leigh's taxi driver borrows money from his daughter carries a profound weight, but there is one specific shot that remains etched in my memory above all others. It might be the most poignant moment in the entire film: when the mother is informed that her son has been hospitalized. The camera remains static, positioned at a distance, observing from afar. She is working as a cashier in some nondescript, nameless supermarket, completely absorbed in the rhythm of her routine—scanning prices and performing the mundane tasks of her job. Then, one of the employees approaches her to deliver the news about her son... that singular instant when she realizes what has actually happened is incredibly powerful. It is quite possibly one of the most masterfully directed sequences I have witnessed in a very long time..

But, in the end... I suppose I simply couldn't connect with All or Nothing..

Man, it feels so good when someone like Liberatore shares the exact same take on a movie as you do!!

Why aren't you guys coming for Liberatore right now, just like you did to me in the last thread? You people are something else, really.

Good grief. I have finished reading through that, shall we say, particular thread. To be perfectly honest, I feel as though I have learned next to nothing about the film itself! However, I must admit that I am quite impressed by how Dante synthesized everything—so much so that I find myself feeling rather inspired to give the movie another viewing... we shall see.
