Hey there.
I'm not quite sure how to put this into words, so it’s probably best if you just watch it:

My gut feeling is that we're looking at a codec issue. The audio stays perfectly fine, but the video keeps cutting out and coming back.

It isn’t actually an issue with the codec; it's more about having a weak signal reception.

Thanks for the reply. But no, that's not it. Channel group A always comes in crystal clear, while group B struggles a bit, sure—but you can't have bad reception when you're using a VHS recorder, yet here we are. 🙂
Besides, everything ran perfectly on my old desktop, so I know the hardware isn't the problem.

I used a USB tuner (PixelView) hooked up to the TV running DVBViewer, and for my old VHS tapes, I used a Dazzla DVC100 with various software setups. It’s always the same result. Plus, the audio on those VHS tapes is incredibly quiet.

If you’re starting to suspect there's an issue with your codecs, I'd suggest just downloading and installing the latest K-Lit codecac.

The link is broken...
Besides, some guy here thinks he can just wing it with a DVD/HDD burner and some burned discs... with this kind of half-baked gear, you're never going to get anywhere serious...
