Keith Miller30 said:I knew it was you. ☕ For me, it's definitely better than average, though I wouldn't go so far as to call it the greatest of all time.

Bas, I just watched Limitless yesterday, and it was excellent. 👍

It’s really no big deal, honestly, there's absolutely no reason to feel embarrassed about it.☕

I mean, people love to act like Guardians of the Galaxy or Pacific Rim or whatever those Avengers movies are actually worth something, but honestly? We’re living in an era where some random Transformers 5—or whatever number they've reached by now—just absolutely nukes the box office and rakes in a ridiculous amount of money, like easily over a billion dollars. And don't even get me started on Fast & Furious 7, which basically caused total insanity in theaters, though personally, I don't have anything against the Fast & Furious franchise itself.

Look, Interstellar has its massive strengths, but let's be real—the fact that it's a Christopher Nolan film is both a blessing and a total curse. For some reason, people just can't stand his work, and you see them trashing Inception like it’s some kind of garbage, even though personally, I think it's one of my absolute favorites.

Like brightpilot6 said, it’s honestly just plain stupid to try and compare Interstellar to those other movies you guys keep bringing up, because they aren't even in the same damn ballpark.

Okay, maybe I went a little too far when I claimed it was better than 2001: A Space Odyssey—because let’s be honest, Stanley Kubrick is still the king of the hill—but even so, Interstellar is still ranked incredibly high for a reason.
To be totally honest, I probably had a much better time watching Interstellar than I did with 2001: A Space Odyssey, which honestly felt pretty dull and boring at certain points, but overall Interstellar is just the superior movie because it leaves you feeling so much more "wow" once the credits roll, and even though Interstellar definitely got my brain working too, it didn't leave me stuck in a deep existential trance quite as long as that little Odyssey flick did.

I honestly don't even know what to say to you... The first Matrix is a total Masterpiece—you can love or hate that kind of vibe, fine—but calling it a poorly made movie is just straight-up insanity...

It’s nowhere near a masterpiece for me. I’m not saying it’s a bad movie—the concept itself is actually pretty solid—but there are so many rough edges. Between the lead actor's performance, the weak emotional beats, and all the clichés, it struggles. Even the ending felt off; you have this potentially great story that just collapses into some silly action sequence at the finish line.

What film snobs always moan about:

forced sentimentality

the book was better

it's not "hard" sci-fi enough

plot holes

done it all before

Hey, since we're talking about Stanley Kubrick, there's this one movie that honestly beats 90% of what's been mentioned over the last few pages, and it's already 60 years old

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050825/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_10

Anyone who gives this a watch won't be disappointed...

you're still stuck in the Middle Ages... 😁

the book actually is superior, purely because it has more space to provide what people call "depth"...

then again, not every movie needs to be profound or carry heavy symbolism; some exist solely for entertainment. in that regard, I'd put the first two Transformers movies in that category of big blockbusters. two hours of giant robots... 😁 the rest were mediocre at best to me... 😁

as long as you don't regret the time spent watching it, the film has fulfilled its purpose...

I didn't mention GOT, nor was I thinking about it. People have been jumping out of their skins over those little trivia tidbits for ages, but most of them don't even grasp the underlying theme. They can't tell the difference between a movie made for popcorn fun and one that's actual philosophical material. They just get worked up because other people exist and they can't wrap their heads around why anyone would think differently...

Robbie, I suspect you might be setting the bar a bit too high for every single motion picture... not every film can be a groundbreaking revolution that leaves you breathless and redefined by its brilliance.

Even FC Barcelona doesn't beat Real Madrid 5-0 every year 😬

I’m well aware you had that debate, much like how I find the The Walking Dead comic far superior to the series for the exact same reasons. There is simply more depth, a tighter plot, and characters that are actually given room to breathe...

Robbie is a total classic. Honestly, just an extremist in every single thing he’s ever touched.

Pretty much everything by Stanley Kubrick is a masterpiece. Dracula is easily one of the greatest satires ever made. 🙏

I'm signing off on everything Walter Grant5 said—most movie talk is just way too subjective, unless something is so blatantly terrible that you can't ignore it.

The story behind The Matrix is just incredible, especially considering it was an entirely original script rather than some adaptation of a book, comic, or whatever else. I guess they unfortunately messed up the sequels by leaning too hard into endless action scenes and melodrama just to please the crowds. The original is definitely one of the most unique films of the modern era. I wouldn't say it's the greatest of all time, nor would I call someone silly for not liking it, but it has qualities I really value: originality, a compelling plot, and a believable world. You could argue Inception is an original film, but conceptually, it feels a bit like a second-rate version of The Matrix. They even seemed to borrow the whole "limbo" idea, which feels like a copy of that space between reality and a computer program. 🤦 for both concepts. I suppose the only thing the other film did better was casting, since Keanu Reeves has about as much acting range as a street lamp.

Yeah, it really is good. It deals with real-world dilemmas and that gritty sort of fate you find in a messy world.

I guess I don't mind being called an extremist if it means I get to call almost every recent movie garbage. You can tell me I'm conservative or some kind of generational chauvinist, maybe, but please don't compare me to AJ or people like him.
