I can't help but wonder about the production value here; it honestly feels like it falls quite a bit short of the standard you'd expect from an HBO series of this caliber.
Netflix certainly puts out a massive amount of content, but they just don't seem to have that same level of polish or prestige...

I suppose that’s what happens when the source material comes from some Polish author instead of someone like J.R.R. Tolkien or George R. R. Martin.

I’m actually digging this new policy, honestly. I don't doubt for a second that people working in the government sector are gonna start slacking off even more 😁

Honestly, they completely blew it with this whole mess.

Yeah, yeah, you can definitely feel that Netflix's production quality is lower, but I think it’s for different reasons.
My take is that HBO actually buys scripts and then handles the actual production themselves, whereas Netflix feels more like they just "sponsor" the thing—at least, that's my impression anyway. It's like comparing a local indie project to some weird hybrid setup.

I don't think that's the only reason, honestly, because even George R. R. Martin was pretty much a nobody before his Game of Thrones series blew up.

Sure, Martin had his following in the sci-fi niche, and he is an American, after all. But let's be honest—translated literature is always a tough sell in the US, especially when it falls into genre fiction. It actually surprises me they even attempted to adapt Andrzej Sapkowski in the first place.

Even if nothing else, you can at least say they've got ties to one of the biggest gaming franchises of the 21st century.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have even touched this adaptation if The Witcher (especially the third one) hadn't become such a massive powerhouse in the industry.

I mean, I guess so, but also kind of not? He was definitely a favorite, and honestly, the only reason I even picked up his book was because of how huge he'd become, but still... Just because something blows up in certain genre circles doesn't mean it's actually mainstream, because even after I finished the first book, I didn't feel like I really knew him, and riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidiculously few people had ever heard of him before, yet now suddenly everything has flipped completely upside down...

So, did the game actually happen? I’m completely out of the loop here. 😳 Let’s be honest, isn't it usually the case that video game adaptations end up looking like some low-budget, half-baked afterthought? It feels like they rarely get the respect they deserve.

Look, if something manages to carve out a dedicated niche in the sci-fi community, that’s already a massive win. When you consider how huge the English-speaking audience is, those "niche" numbers actually turn into a pretty substantial fanbase ready to binge a series. Of course, this show ended up becoming a massive hit that blew right past those initial expectations, but let’s be real—I highly doubt that was part of the original pitch when they first decided to bring the adaptation to life. Was anyone actually expecting it to go that big? Probably not.

I checked out The Witcher because of the buzz on Reddit here.
It’s absolute garbage, sitting right up there with those Shannara and Dungeons & Dragons series.
The acting? Barely an improvement over General.
And the dialogue? It feels like reading a dusty, outdated Western novel.

It’s a total waste of what could have been a solid concept.

Comparing this to Game of Thrones is honestly laughable. Game of Thrones is lightyears ahead in every single category.

Netflix churns out content fifty times faster than HBO does😁 because they've spread themselves way too thin, so obviously the quality is gonna tank. HBO moves slow, sure, but when they finally drop something, it’s on that massive blockbuster level.

Good grief!

The Witcher series is easily one of the greatest RPGs ever made—one of the last true bastions of actual RPG gameplay before the flood of Bethesda garbage and cheap knockoffs took over. 😁

The Author is honestly an idiot and a total nightmare in RL. You could tell from what people were saying about him back in his home country; he sold off the book rights for the game for peanuts because he figured whoever made it wouldn't do a good job and thought the property had zero potential. Then, the game becomes this massive global phenomenon that puts him and his series on the map far beyond his own borders, and suddenly he's suing them and demanding more money. Typical.

Back when that Hacker stuff was actually trending, I was keeping up with it all, but I pretty much lost interest somewhere around the time Fallout 2 came out and I moved on to playing Football Manager. 😁

It looks like CM 01/02 still has a massive following elsewhere too. 😁

The only version I ever really sank my teeth into took me all the way through to the 2070 season. 🤣

Joe Biden’s view of Hillary Clinton is much like how an average college student might look at a mediocre eighth grader. Setting aside their shared history for a moment, to her, he’s essentially nothing more than a color television.
