wiredrider9 said:Maybe it's because people have partners who don't work Sundays at all—so while they're off, they end up spending that time alone instead of with their significant other. Or maybe their partner works the opposite shift, so they barely see each other anyway. Even if they both have Sundays off, sometimes you can't even get one full day together with the whole family, etc., etc.

And honestly, that’s why I think the government should just ban working on Sundays altogether. Just saying.

I don't see what any of that has to do with anything, honestly, because half the shops over in the States are closed up tight on Sundays anyway, so are we trying to be like them or just some weird halfway version of them

But what about the rest of us? Is money really more important than everything else in this damn life? It's not like they're banning everyone from working—just those damn retail shops. Who do you think you are, some kind of royal queen?

I, for one, am offended by the notion of banning work on Sundays.

In my view, bans are generally quite useless. Except, perhaps, for those specifically designed to protect an individual's safety. The concept of being required to work until 9 p.m. every single day of the week—effectively eliminating Sunday—seems to strip away any sense of humanity from the workforce. People end up becoming little more than robots, merely stocking shelves or ringing up customers, repeating the same cycle day after day until their vacation rolls around. I suppose one might question if such a lifestyle, driven purely by profit, is truly worth living.

Oh yeah, those poor Germans are totally collapsing because everything shuts down on Sundays... right. As if their whole economy isn't basically held together by church bells and tradition.

Why does that matter?
Do you think because I spend my days repairing tillers, I don't have a family?
Am I somehow less worthy, such that the Church... or the government, shouldn't want to ban Sunday labor?

And honestly, hearing someone call me a drama queen is hilarious coming from someone who basically wants the government to ban Sunday shifts just so they can spend all day cuddling with their girlfriend 😂

So why not just ban opposite shifts then?

Oh, right. I forgot. Unlike the sanctity of Sunday, opposite shifts aren't considered sacred.

Look, it doesn't even have to be a ban—let's just hold a referendum for retail workers and see what actually happens.

bluebison47 said:Well, let’s just take a second to actually think about this... you aren't some lone worker in the entire country, and people like you definitely don't make up the majority of the workforce.

A huge chunk of those workers have kids who aren't even free during the week—they're only off on the weekends because that's how the school systems operate (and let's be honest, most of them aren't strictly religious folks worrying about keeping Sunday "holy").

Retail stores aren't emergency services or essential industries that depend on Sunday shifts—you know, unlike restaurants, bars, or maybe sports journalists—so their schedule shouldn't be dictated by the day of the week. Whatever you feel like you "need" to buy on a Sunday, you could easily grab on a Saturday or a Monday; in 98% of cases, you won't face any actual catastrophe.

Let’s pause for a moment and actually think here.

So, if I'm not the only person working in America, why on earth should I be banned from working on a Sunday?

All those employees could show up to a referendum every single day if they wanted to, they'd just walk straight up to their manager and hand in their resignation.

Let's all just head out to a referendum ourselves and demand they scrap the sales tax entirely, because you know how much everyone would save, I'm telling you, turnout would be a solid 100%.

Yeah, right. Like it's actually that easy.

Most retail workers are older women—mostly married with kids in tow.

The real point behind closing shops on Sunday isn't just about letting them attend some damn Mass that the leftists find so irritating; it’s about giving this vulnerable segment of the workforce a fighting chance to actually spend a day with their families.

Personally, I can live without Sunday shopping. I think most people can. I’m not sure how one day off per week would impact potential layoffs, but generally speaking, it’s not a job anyone should be losing sleep over.

If they’d just suggest giving unknown, Branka, and the rest of that crew a paid day off on Saturday, nobody would be complaining. The real headache is Sunday.

Not quite.
I’d have an issue if they banned working on any day of the week with equal intensity.
