Suggestion: Can we make avatars larger?

The reason forums are such a cluttered mess isn't the avatars; it's those megalomaniac signatures packed with images and clips.

I said formatting signatures, not making them bigger!!!!
My point is that signatures should be able to be smaller than the actual post font, so you can tell at a glance where the message ends and the signature begins.

I honestly don't get the whole obsession with signature formatting... it feels like a lot of unnecessary effort, if you ask me. As for the actual topic, though, I'd say 75x75 would be just fine enough.

The thing is—if you went with a larger avatar, that gap between your text and the bottom of the post would just get even wider, which is pretty ridiculous 🤷

Honestly, larger avatars would be such a relief so I don't have to strain my eyes just to see who's posting, plus they'd actually look decent! These tiny ones feel like we're all still rocking 15-inch monitors from the stone age, when literally everyone is using 19-inch screens or bigger these days.

Perhaps the server could be optimized by permanently deleting banned accounts, those one-time users, low-post counts, duplicate threads, archived topics, or locked discussions. And why start chat threads for every single PDF?

I’m not on board with this. To me, the current layout from other sites works just fine; all that visual clutter from oversized images is an eyesore, and besides, the server is already struggling enough as it is...

And leave the archive alone. 🙂

Regarding those complaining about visual clutter: an avatar 100 x100 isn't even that large. In fact, 75x75 is relatively small by today's monitor resolutions.

On some American forums cluttered with avatars, you see 200x200 sizes, but the real issue is massive signatures filled with huge images.

Take this as an example.
From left to right: 50x50 (current), 60x60, 75x75, and 100x100.



File sizes on the drive: 3KB, 3KB, 4KB, and 6KB. Even at 100x100, it doesn't exceed the current 9.8KB limit.

If 100x100 is too much for some—which it likely is—I believe a 75x75 size wouldn't hurt this forum. It won't take up significantly more space than the current 50x50, and as long as the 9.8KB limit remains, there's no difference for the server.

My official proposal is 75x75.

Will an admin ever actually show up here to provide an official forum stance? 🤷

Let’s be honest, most users on this forum already have rather mediocre avatars; there is really no point in artificially inflating their dimensions after the fact. 🤷

A decent avatar looks just fine at 50x50, whereas for some unfortunate souls, even a 1000x1000 resolution won't save them from being eyesores. 😳

Another vote for 75x75... it's not massive, but you can actually tell what's going on in the image. One of the reasons I haven't bothered with an avatar for a while now is precisely because most images I shrink down to 50x50 become a total blur—just a pixelated mess where you can't distinguish anything at all.

It’s not really about signatures, but if they could just bring back the options to align text to the right or center, and maybe let us decrease (not increase!) the font size... that would be something. We didn't even have images or GIFs in our signatures anyway, and having access to every single color in the spectrum for text is honestly pretty useless. So, yeah... that's my two cents.

The reality is quite simple: you cannot simply toss a meme-ified photo into an avatar slot. One requires at least >200x200 pixels for such things to actually be legible or remotely coherent...

Look, mine isn't even the best example since it’s white text on a light background—so the visibility is pretty crappy—but if there was actual contrast, you’d definitely see the difference. Either way, those extra 25 pixels aren't going to break the page size or slow down the load times...🤷

50X50=2500
75X75=5625

It was under 3125 pixels before.
