Suggestion: Can we make avatars larger?

That 3125 figure is a negligible percentage compared to a modest 1280x1024 screen resolution of 1,310,720 pixels.
3125 is just 0.23%.

There's too much of that 0.23% going on. To actually make that work, they'd have to resort to some pretty painful cuts. And I don't think anyone's interested in that right now—especially not with the elections coming up.

I guess I’ll throw my support behind this too, since I’d personally love to have an avatar that isn't so tiny. There's plenty of room for larger ones (even up to 100x100), and I doubt it would mess up the Reddit layout all that much. ☕

I honestly thought you and Maria Barnes had those massive avatars, but I just took another look and it still looks like mine is stuck at a tiny 50x50 pixels to me 🤷

Are you guys actually testing out the bigger ones and they just haven't gone live yet, or what's the deal?

It doesn't mess up the look of the Reddit layout at all, and honestly, I think it’d be pretty nice if the rest of us could get that option too. 🙂

I guess nobody’s realized yet that all the mods and admins get bigger avatars by default—you know, as a little perk for the jobs they actually do.

Look, in my very humble capacity as the self-appointed tiny defender of Reddit, I am officially declaring this a case of user discrimination and politely begging the admin team to let regular users have larger avatars too. Besides, even users on European forums aren't stuck with this 50x50 limit anymore—it's just an American thing. Didn't signatures cause enough trouble for the server back in the day? You really think bigger avatars won't cause the exact same headaches? In other words, we're basically promising ourselves a headache. The priority should be keeping the forum functional; we don't want a repeat of those constant server crashes just to accommodate these concessions. If that happens, we're truly screwed.

The problem with bigger avatars is simple: if most people pick ugly ones, the whole Reddit site just gets uglier.
