No, I'm not. An avatar is an aesthetic choice. It’s a tiny bit of art. A way to show personality. Aside from the logo and the banner, it's the only graphic element on this entire Reddit.

Look, in my very humble capacity as the self-appointed tiny defender of Reddit, I am officially declaring this a case of user discrimination and politely begging the admin team to let regular users have larger avatars too. Besides, even users on European forums aren't stuck with this 50x50 limit anymore—it's just an American thing. If my requests are ignored, the office of the tiny Reddit defender will be forced to contact Jon Stewart. 😬

Didn't signatures cause enough trouble for the server back in the day? You really think bigger avatars won't cause the exact same headaches? In other words, we're basically promising ourselves a headache. The priority should be keeping the forum functional; we don't want a repeat of those constant server crashes just to accommodate these concessions. If that happens, we're truly screwed.

Increasing pixel counts doesn't automatically mean an avatar's file size will balloon, provided we maintain that 9.8 KB limit. If we stick to the current constraints, the server won't have anything to worry about. 👍

Then I hope they actually follow through on increasing avatar sizes for everyone. Looking at yours, even 75x75 would probably suffice.

Fine, great, I kick off some sort of initiative and suddenly management starts throwing out novelties just to stay ahead of the curve. Whatever, as long as it keeps people happy... 👍
