Thinking about applying for moderator?

Personally, I think being a regular user is way better than being a mod.
As a mod, you're supposed to be this objective pillar of truth—you have to slog through threads you couldn't care less about just to make sure nobody's causing chaos, all while maintaining this perfect, saintly behavior...
As a regular user? You don't have to deal with any of that. Sure, you might get banned here and there if you push things too far, but it's usually just a couple of days before you're back to your old tricks. Plus, you can just flirt with the relatives of whoever banned you. Or maybe just hang out with Mexicans if that's more your speed.

Power is intoxicating. At least, that's how it looks to everyone at the bottom of the ladder.
But once you realize there's always someone above you—once you're getting squeezed from both sides—it stops looking like such a sweet gig[1].

[1] Well, maybe for you since you're a woman, I don't know.

I can't think of a specific name right now, but a buddy mentioned a colleague of his actually works (literally has a job) as a forum mod making about $1,800 a month 😁. The only exceptions are places where you pay a membership fee of maybe $10 a month, provided you stay active at least seven hours a day 😁

On top of everything already mentioned, having some IT knowledge is definitely a plus for moderation.
It would be ideal if you already had experience, especially since tech skills are pretty crucial when you're managing things.
That said, there are plenty of people nowadays who just start out as beginners and pick up the knack for it as they go.
