analogpilot16 said:It was an alright movie—definitely a step up from the first one, though not by a huge margin. Personally, I didn't find the humor nearly as sharp as it was in the original—those jokes just didn't land for me—but all in all, I’m satisfied. They haven't ruined the franchise yet.
Now, something isn't sitting right with me—was Rhodey already training in that silver suit before this? It feels a bit silly that he manages to fix the Iron Man tech so effortlessly right out of the gate—I mean, sure, he was drunk, but still—and then flies around without any struggle or adjustment period. If I recall correctly, there was a line about how every suit has built-in protections that only the specific user can access. So, does that mean Rhodey had been wearing the silver one already? Was that something Tony custom-built specifically for him?
Also, that scene in Monte Carlo felt a little naive—you know, he's swinging this thing around everywhere, and it takes more than five minutes for the police to even show up. One shot and it's over. But instead, everyone just stands there gawking. It felt pretty ridiculous to me—though, as a standalone action sequence, it was fine. A few cops should have at least shown up to get caught in the crossfire.
Oh, and honestly? I wish Tony had just handled everything himself. He doesn't need a sidekick—he certainly doesn't need anyone's help. ☕

My impression is that we're looking at the Mark II suit; I don't believe Tony developed that one for Rhodey. At least, that is my understanding...🙂

It’s a decent enough flick, though I think the first one holds up better. This one leans way too hard on the Iron Man suit itself—it feels like everything just revolves around the tech.
Plus, there isn't really a proper villain. The guy they picked barely got any screen time, while Tony Stark was basically in every single shot.

The reality is they’ve scattered themselves too thin with an excessive number of characters just to manufacture endless spin-off opportunities, leaving me completely indifferent to any of them. There isn't a coherent story here, let alone anything clever.
An empty box...

The only highlight for me was Stark's holographic touchscreen interface.

As for the villains, perhaps the intention was to suggest that Stark is actually his own worst enemy.

Absolutely stellar flick. 😍

I’ve got to say, I actually found the sequel more compelling than the first one; I have this nagging feeling they managed to weave in so many more intriguing little nuances, whether you look at the dialogue or just the overall production design. If I had to nitpick, though, I suppose it felt a bit disjointed in certain stretches, almost like it couldn't quite decide where to settle. That said, Robert Downey Jr. was nothing short of phenomenal, and they gave Gwyneth Paltrow much more breathing room this time around, which she handled brilliantly—she’s got such a great sense of comedic timing. So, yeah...

Now, would someone be so kind as to explain to me how on earth this Thor movie connects to Iron Man?

The connection here is that all of these films—Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America—serve as precursors leading up to the collective cinematic event, The Avengers (2012).
I assume this was posted within this existing thread because there really wasn't any need to start an entirely new discussion just to share a single image.
And, if I recall correctly, it was during the events of Iron Man 2 that they first uncovered Thor's hammer, Mjolnir.

The underlying connection here is that all of these films—namely Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America—serve merely as introductions leading toward the collective cinematic event, The Avengers (2012).
I assume this was posted within this specific thread because there was no real necessity to initiate an entirely new discussion just to share a single image.
Furthermore, by the conclusion of Iron Man 2, they had already located Thor's hammer, Mjolnir...

Honestly, I loved this movie. Might even be better than the first one? Plus, I think this actor fits the role of Rhodey way better. There are tons of nods to other comics too, and of course, Stan Lee makes a cameo like the legend he is lol.

LOL, was it Stan Lee? Or what was that guy's name again? Larry King?

Aha, okay, then my hunch was probably right. 😳
It didn't quite click for me why they would include a "still" from the film, or why they'd bother posting a shot from such a brief moment at the very end of a movie.
I guess that makes me wonder, though, if we'll even see a third Iron Man installment—I mean, I know they signed three-picture deals right from the jump—but would that also have to come out in 2012 if they're following that same timeline gap between the first two?

Thanks for clearing that up. 🙂

Iron Man 3 will most likely happen, simply due to the massive success of the first two films and, as you noted, the fact that they were already contracted for a trilogy.

Can someone just give me one sentence explaining who on earth Thor is? Like, what's his actual connection to Iron Man that justifies him showing up in that final scene, and why specifically in a crater?? Also, where was it even implied that Hulk's storyline was happening at the exact same time?

Wait, what on earth made you think the Hulk storyline was happening at the exact same time?

Hulk2... those last few minutes of the movie.

What exactly do you mean by that? I would appreciate a bit more clarification, if you wouldn't mind. 🙂

Well, Tony Stark showed up in The Hulk—I can't recall the exact details, though—but he was definitely there.

Zachary Brown5 said:Personally, I found this movie to be absolutely fantastic.
It’s packed with action and pure entertainment, moving at such a steady clip that there isn't a single dull moment to be found.
The whole conflict wraps up quite smoothly, and all things considered, it’s definitely worth catching on the big screen—maybe aim for a Wednesday matinee to beat the crowds for $4.75 😁

The main villain is just hilarious; even when he's getting totally thrashed, he keeps dropping those "You lose" lines like it's nothing, which had me laughing out loud!

Totally agree, it was great... if I'd known, I would've hit the theater on Wednesday too.🙂
Haven't seen the first one, but the sequel? Absolute blast.

Check out this scene:

He didn't show up in Hulk, he showed up to General Ross to tell him they were putting a team together. Actually, if you look at it this way, it implies that the events of "The Incredible Hulk" are happening after the other movies, since Stark isn't officially part of the Avengers yet back in "Iron Man 2." Honestly, I love how they weave these stories together. It really gives you that feeling that this whole cinematic universe is one massive, interconnected web... it's just brilliant...

He didn't even say he was approaching Banner/Hulk, just that he appeared in that movie.
As for the continuity issues, the order characters join the Avengers is totally irrelevant.

So, I finally caught the movie last night, figured I’d throw some thoughts out there... Honestly? The first one was an absolute masterpiece, and even this sequel, while maybe a tiny bit weaker, still holds its own. My biggest gripe is definitely how they crammed in all those new characters—there just wasn't enough breathing room to actually flesh them out, especially that character played by Scarlett Johansson. It felt rushed, you know? Also, there's this weird lull right in the middle where the pacing just drags and nothing much happens... just dead air. But look, despite that, it's still a blast of a blockbuster that doesn't treat the audience like they're idiots. Robert Downey Jr. is perfection as the ego-driven Tony Stark, Mickey Rourke absolutely kills it playing Ivan Vanko, and Sam Rockwell is pure entertainment as Justin Hammer. The rest of the cast? Solid work across the board.

I caught it this past Saturday and I have to say, the film was absolutely wonderful...
I find myself in complete agreement with what was expressed regarding Hulk 2.
