Iron Man 2 is another one of those movies that basically sells you a bunch of action sequences in the trailers that never actually happen. The plot is practically a carbon copy of the first one—just different suits, same old stuff. They swapped out the actor playing Rhodey, and honestly? Huge miss. Don Cheadle just doesn't work for me here. For nearly two hours, absolutely nothing happens, except for a little action in the first thirty minutes and the final fifteen. Plus, Tony and Pepper’s constant back-and-forth dialogue was way too much; they were incredibly grating and annoying. The only saving grace is Rourke. He’s a cool villain, mostly because of his vibe rather than his look, since he looks almost identical to Jeff Bridges from the first movie. Even the suit looks pretty much the same, just with more bits and pieces. I also didn't get the point of Scarlett Johansson; she was super irritating, with the camera constantly lingering on her while she pulls that whole "femme fatale" act. It feels like the movie was rushed through just to get to the Avengers stuff, leaving the villain and his actual motives totally sidelined. Iron Man 2 failed to follow the Batman or Spider-Man tradition of actually delivering a sequel that tops the original. There’s just nothing memorable about it.
