I’m looking to start training in some kind of martial art, and this gym caught my eye because the location is perfect, the schedule works for me, and the price is right. But then I started digging into reviews and kept seeing this word "cult" popping up everywhere. I have zero interest in joining some weird sect, so I want to know why they have this reputation. If these are just lies, I don't want to let that stop me from signing up...😁

Probably because they act like a literal cult... nothing else.🙂
There's Spartan Gym nearby for Muay Thai, or you could hit up the Jiu-Jitsu center over on Warsaw Ave for Judo/Jiu-Jitsu.

I don't think you get what I'm saying... anaerobic conditioning is nothing compared to aerobic, which is what people actually mean when they talk about being fit... 😛

Sure, go hit up some local MMA gym and then come back and tell me how much better it is than running or whatever... if you really want to be that wrong.🙂

This conditional training is absolute garbage compared to running or something similar, I guess. ☕

What about aikido?😁
Yeah, aikido is more like mental-spiritual conditioning...☕

Man, wrestling is an incredible sport—seriously a killer workout.👍 It’s such a shame people sleep on it. Honestly, my biggest life regret is not starting wrestling or judo when I was a kid—my folks thought it was just "meathead stuff"—so I wasted so much time on Shotokan karate and Taekwondo instead... 😢

I'm definitely starting wrestling in about 10 months... 🙂 Just wondering if you guys recommend ear guards? Don't want to end up with cauliflower ears from sparring too early... :S

Better to look unsexy while hitting the gym than looking like a mess out on the town... 😁

Hey there!😉
What kind of sport would you suggest for a 20-year-old woman who’s about 110 lbs and 5'7", and hasn't really done anything athletic before?😁 Maybe something like a self-defense class or something along those lines?🤷 It would be ideal if the gym was located near the Savannah area.🙂
I’ve been thinking about Krav Maga, but I’m not sure how beginner-friendly it is for someone starting out very thin and physically weak, so I’m looking for some advice here..

I love the ones who always try to act like they're so much smarter than everyone else. You're just spamming... ☕

Benjamin Taylor4 If you're interested in Krav Maga, I think you could jump right in without any issues. The whole goal for women training in Krav Maga is learning how to defend yourself against much larger opponents and figuring out how to turn their own size against them. And honestly, if you feel like you're too weak, that’s easily fixed just by putting in the work and staying consistent with your training... 😁

Michael Evans46, thanks for the reply 😉
I know someone would probably suggest a "lighter" sport, but I really want an actual combat skill to deal with all the stress I'm carrying—it feels like the better fit. I just hope those Krav Maga centers group people by strength level, because I’d rather not get bodied by some powerhouse lady during my very first session.😲

lol... 😁 If you're looking for self-defense, you could go with Krav Maga, some kind of system, Jiu-Jitsu, or even JKD...
Oh, and one more thing... stop stressing about what people are gonna think when they see you at the gym... 🙂

No worries at all. 😉

I'm in the exact same boat as you 😁 I want a real martial art too, not just some random workout. I just have no clue where to start. 😢 I haven't been much of an athlete growing up, so... 🙄

Also, the rest of your post gave me a good laugh. 😂
