Hey everyone. Looking for some help here. I practice WTF Taekwondo and just moved to town, so I’m trying to find a place to keep training. I’m 23 and living near downtown.
Can anyone recommend a club nearby? Ideally somewhere that isn't a trek to the other side of the city and doesn't consist solely of a bunch of kids. Since I'm a student, I really need to keep the membership fee under $67—that's my limit. If anyone actually trains at one of these spots, I’d love to hear your honest take on them. Thanks in advance. 🙂

I am unfamiliar with WTF Taekwondo or which city you moved to, but if it is Chicago, I know there is Kempo in the Upper West Side. It isn't quite the same as Taekwondo, but you could try it since the first session is free. You might enjoy it, or perhaps not. The best approach is to try.
As far as I know, for students it is $50. Check www.kempo.com.
😉

Yeah, yeah, we're talking about NYC—forgot to mention that. Thanks for the info. 🙂>

I don't really get how this forum works—like, why is it that you can only find this specific thread, or even ones where nobody has posted in ages, if you just search for them on Google?

There aren't even any 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... page numbers at the bottom of the threads or anything..

There's an option to view more stuff right at the bottom of this subforum's page.
By default, the settings are configured to only show you threads that have seen some activity within the last month.
Extend that by a year and start looking...

Here’s the situation: I used to train Taekwondo, but about eleven years ago, I had to hang up the uniform to focus on my college studies. Back then, I actually earned my black belt. Now, I don't have any official paperwork or certificates to prove that rank, but physically speaking, nothing has changed—I can still execute all those techniques with full speed and power, and I’ve even picked up the 540 kick since then. I’ve also been keeping my skills sharp by training on the heavy bag.

Since finishing my degree, I’ve moved to a different city, and I was wondering if it’s possible to test for all the belt ranks leading up to black at a new club without having to start over from scratch or spend time training alongside the beginners and the kids.

Thanks.

That’s a GREAT question, but you’ve posted it in the totally wrong spot...

Look up all the Taekwondo clubs in town, go visit them, and have a chat with the instructors. Then, ask THEM this question...

Best regards.

A friend and I are looking to start training in Muay Thai or MMA. We were wondering if there are any decent clubs for that in the Zagorje area or somewhere nearby? Since we’re heading to school in Zagorje, traveling all the way to a big city like Columbus or further isn't really an option for us. Thanks.

From what I can tell, we can talk about pretty much anything here?
I’m looking to put a banner up on this forum. How much does that cost?
If anyone has already run a banner here, could a moderator or an admin let me know?

thanks

Is this just for sports or is it for everything? :/ Now I’m not sure. Am I going to get banned for asking?

Is there any chance there's a Muay Thai gym out in the rural outskirts or maybe near a place like Columbus? A buddy and I have been itching to start training together, but we’re completely in the dark about the timing or even where to find a decent spot. Any leads?

When it comes to the Olympic Games, are we looking at amateurs or true professionals stepping onto the tatami?

I have a question. Can anyone explain to me just how much worse it is to use those cotton shin guards—the ones you slide on like a sock—instead of the leather ones?
I mean, how do you even train with those cotton things? Do they just slip off constantly, or what...

They aren't as high-quality as leather and don't absorb impact as well—but honestly, considering the price tag, they're pretty solid for starters...

Thanks for the input. 🙂
So you're saying they won't slip, twist, or anything like that?
I do Muay Thai recreationally. I have zero intention of ever stepping into a ring for competition or doing any serious sparring sessions...

I'm torn between these ones and these ones.

Better grab these from PFS instead. Pride Market is famous for its top-tier quality... 😁

Look, I’ve got these tires too, okay? They’re fine, really. It’s just that after a little while—about ten months for me, give or take—they start to wear down and stretch out.

Dammit, does anyone know if there are any jujitsu classes happening during the day in the city? I've got Krav Maga on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, plus I have a regular gig every Thursday... 😢 I mean, ideally, the training would wrap up by 6 or 7 PM?
