It’s perfectly clear to me that Krav Maga doesn't actually have much to do with Japan—not at all—and neither does Muay Thai.
Honestly, I went to a Muay Thai class recently and—wow—I really loved it! It’s just so incredibly dynamic.

If anyone here happens to be more of an expert, could you please explain the actual difference in what I'd get out of Krav Maga versus Ninjutsu?

With KM, you get practical, solid self-defense—even if it just means learning to spot a dangerous situation before it happens. With Ninjutsu, you mostly get philosophy and stories about ancient Japan. 🙂To add to that, KM is faster paced, focusing on elbows, knees, and groin strikes. Ninjutsu relies more on leverage, throws, and rolls. My advice is to attend both sessions, try them out, and then decide.

KM is a system designed for speed and simplicity in self-defense, whereas Ninjutsu is an expansive discipline covering vast terrain that requires years, if not a lifetime, of study.

Can't get any more expert than me. 😁

With KM, you learn how to hit people in the groin. With Ninja stuff, you learn how to vanish in a cloud of smoke. 😁

If you prefer hitting things and wanting to be "street ready" ASAP, go with KM.

Honestly, Ninjutsu never appealed to me. Especially after reading all the drama about instructors on this forum. Kind of like the situation with Jiu-Jitsu here...

Oh yeah—both in Illinois and at the State Fair... definitely.

With Krav Maga, you're looking at modern, practical self-defense, a solid workout, and some fun... with Ninjutsu, it's more about playing ninja—warfare, Japan, exotic moves, mysticism, and maybe some old-school philosophy.
I did both for a couple of years. Now I'm doing Muay Thai and Tai Chi. 😁

First you gotta decide if you want BS or BV, 'cause from where I'm sitting, looks like you're more into the BS (all that constant grinding)... 🤷

Hey guys, I'm 18 and looking to get into some kind of combat sport—kickboxing is top of my list right now. Can anyone give me the lowdown on how clubs work, where to go, and what the deal is? I’m not trying to go pro or anything, just want to learn how to throw hands recreationally without getting my head cracked open by some absolute beast :-D I'm living in the Trefoil area of Chicago.
Thanks in advance

Dear forum members,

I am looking for some assistance regarding the exclamation used in my title. 😁

I am trying to figure out how to write or say in English that specific "AAACA!" sound—you know, the one that usually precedes a strike in kung fu movies or various martial arts films and cartoons.

Perhaps there is an authentic version of this shout, maybe something rooted in Chinese or Japanese traditions 😕? That would be quite helpful to me...

Many thanks for any help you can provide. 😍

Someone point me toward some solid info on strength and stretching drills—the kind stuff martial arts instructors actually use—primarily MT style

So, I’ve been wondering where in the heart of the city I can actually track down some SAI and a pair of nunchucks, and I don't mean scrolling through endless websites or tapping my credit card online, because frankly, I want to actually walk into a physical shop here in town and see the gear with my own eyes before I commit. Does anyone have the inside scoop on a local spot where I can just show up and buy them in person? Please, help a person out!

I was wondering where one might actually find Krav Maga in a place like Springfield... is it over at the South Side community center or perhaps down by the West End fire station?

Anyone know of a Muay Thai club in the Dubrava or Maksimir areas? I know Trenk used to be the spot, but I heard they’ve switched strictly to MMA now. I’m aware of UFK Ban and ECT, but I’m specifically looking for MT. Thanks in advance.

About two years ago, I went through two knee surgeries, and honestly, I’ve just let everything slide since then. Aside from some basic rehab and a bit of running, I haven't touched any other training—especially nothing involving stretching. To be blunt, I’m in pretty catastrophic shape right now. I’m reaching out because if anyone has any advice, maybe a good book recommendation, or even just a solid YouTube series, I’d really appreciate it. Most of what I find online is just a bunch of random, isolated exercises, but I’m looking for a complete, structured program. I’m actually terrified of working out without a plan; I feel like my knees ended up in this mess because I was just winging it. Now, whenever I try to stretch, I have this nagging fear that all my tendons—from my groin to my knees—are just going to snap. Thanks in advance to everyone for the help.

Over in Ravnice, you can find dedicated Muay Thai sections at Leon Gym (formerly Barun Trenk)—and for Dubrava, UFK Ban actually offers it too. It isn't just an MMA gym, despite what some people claim.
