Check out this headline from the New York Post. See how public opinion gets manufactured...

SCANDAL

America slams the door on Hollywood

The implications and assumptions behind a statement like that... you could write a whole sociology thesis on it. And of course, people eat it up—the uneducated masses jumping to the front of the line.

I didn't realize there were so many simpletons on this forum, especially those who claim to be part of the "young urban elite."

At its core, this is just about the fundamentals of tolerance.

It’s like when Metallica played at Madison Square Garden and the Church was against it, but they had to tolerate it (how much they actually tolerated is a different debate, just my two cents here). It's the same thing here—tolerating sacred values. They actually exist, even if most posters here clearly have no clue what that means. It just speaks to the general culture, and the disastrous state of this forum.

Some things matter more than money and the global trash factory.

No, you idiot—nothing comes before money. If the production budget were offered directly to the church, they wouldn't have had a single issue with filming there. But it wasn't. They lost their slice of the pie, so they decided to make some noise about it. If Vince Vaughn offered them cash to bulldoze specific historical sites just so he could build a casino on the spot, they’d agree without even blinking.

I'm just following the thread and adding this headline: "SATAN AT THE SHRINE OF SAINT DUJE" , which is the article that actually kicked off this whole debate.
I had no idea there were so many hillbillies on this forum, especially those claiming to be part of the "young urban crowd"...

If you’ve logged seven thousand posts and you’re still shocked by the insults and constant bickering on this board, there’s clearly something wrong with you. It’s like poker: "If you sit down at the table and can't figure out who the sucker is, it's you." The fact that you're acting appalled by the quality of the posts while simultaneously calling us all hillbillies in the same breath speaks volumes.

Anyway, please tell me: should I head over to some poor, defenseless Catholic church in America to weep bitter tears for all those wicked, intolerant forum users?

They missed out on their cut of the pie, so naturally, they're making noise because they can't play the game that way.

Exactly, they'd sell their souls to the devil if the price was right enough 😁

👍🤣

Will the Church actually foot the bill for restoring the destroyed monument?

ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa🙄

Man, this really gets under my skin🙄

Grant, the Church does plenty of stupid stuff—but what really fascinates me is how, among the ultra-preachy, self-righteous types on these forums, tolerance toward the Church and tolerance toward everything else seem to be inversely proportional. It’s honestly bizarre. Everyone who’s been making a mess of things here turns out to be these huge humanitarians and "tolerant" souls on other topics—so much so that you can't even keep up. Yeah, right.🙄 They'll make a massive scene over anything the Church says or does, yet they turn a blind eye when others act the exact same way. It's fine if you see a Catholic gathering in a public square, I guess, but why am I constantly having to deal with Hare Krishnas sitting in groups of 500 on the grass, banging drums and trying to hand me their vegetarian cookies? Seriously? I'm a meat eater.🙂

I'm just sick of this selective tolerance.🙄

Well, hello there. Apparently, I've officially been branded as "tolerant and loving." I wonder what kind of saintly title they'll try to pin on me next? 😳

It honestly feels so stupid to me. We’ve spent fifteen years whining about how foreign studios won't bother filming movies in America anymore, and then, the second an actual opportunity lands in our laps, we don't just grab it—no, we turn it into some massive, global scandal instead. It's exhausting. We should have just taken the money, let them shoot their scenes, and dealt with whatever drama comes later. I'm sick of the idea that people out on the street get to dictate who does what in this country. I mean, seriously, enough is enough.

xavierkat said:...comments like "damn them all, just a bunch of religious fanatics" feel totally out of line. It drags us all down—everyone on this forum and everyone in this debate—to the level of that specific part of the Church structure. People who can't hold a calm conversation or use actual arguments. For instance, if their point was really about protecting landmarks from damage...

I seriously doubt the Church even argued the way the previous post implies. Honestly, the level of "discussion" here is way lower than where real communication actually begins.

Look, this isn't about protecting monuments from damage—that’s a given. That’s the job of other institutions, like the Department of the Interior.

Anyway, for the fourth time now, for anyone not paying attention: this is about respecting and being tolerant toward sacred values.

On one side, you have those values. On the other, you have the Hollywood trash industry and people on this subforum whose ethics and life philosophies are basically non-existent—it's all about grabbing quick cash, then hitting the pub for burgers and beer.

As far as I'm concerned, people can say whatever they want, but expecting tolerance for other people's values should be a given, too...

I can't speak for everyone else, but you've perfectly described the typical congregation at the Church I've attended for years.

What an idiot. American film professionals who get the chance to learn the ropes through co-productions aren't "chasing quick cash"—they're grinding twelve hours a day, six days a week. They're building sets, laying tracks, erecting scaffolding, hauling lights, and all that. Then they take that expertise and spread it across other domestic productions.

They even work on those mindless Jack Sedlar movies funded by religious groups—not because they want to, but because they have families to feed. Idiots.

Early Christian cemetery?! Careful there, it's "early Christian," one word, not "old Christian." By your logic, they shouldn't even be filming movies in San Francisco or Rome or half these other spots...

Wait, were we actually talking about an Arian cemetery?

And thank God, it’s not just my own logic here—let's have a little respect and tolerance. 😉
I mean, we're dealing with people from all sorts of different beliefs and religions. 😉

I think you're full of it, Carol Jackson45... you're really good at playing both sides when 👍 it comes to someone else's values. You don't just disrespect them, you act like they don't even exist.

"Oh, the Church did this," "Oh, there's a ban!"—always back to blaming the authorities. It's just lazy, small-minded thinking...

Real artists, truly. Masters of the craft when it comes to tearing others down.
It says everything about where you all stand, though...

Just barking.

Alright, so can they film at places like Miami? Or maybe at a courtyard in San Francisco? What about an old monastery? Or even in Jerusalem? Is that also considered disrespecting or being intolerant toward sacred sites?

Besides, the Church doesn't have jurisdiction over that cemetery, so they don't really have any say in whether it's allowed or not.

If I hear one more person drone on about "tolerance," I swear I’m gonna lose it.

shadowgardener12, send me that photo of yours so I can set it as my avatar. You’ll be a damn fine replacement for Zuza.👍

Sure. Don't bring up things we don't know about. It hits too close to home... we're just ignorant haters at this point.
Besides, we wouldn't recognize it if we saw it.
We've been trained our whole lives for this...

We've been conditioned our entire lives for this exact reaction.

Let's be tolerant toward the arsonists. Much love.
