In any case, I suppose it’s probably a good idea to wear a mask, especially for those of us who haven't dealt with COVID-19 or the flu in years and might be managing other health issues.

So, maybe it really is COVID, and perhaps some bacterial infection just tagged along with it. In Austria, they're seeing about 4,000 cases a day, which honestly isn't a small number at all.

I tested twice and both times came back negative, so I don't think it was COVID.
Since the pandemic started, I've made it a habit to wear a mask whenever I'm out in public, especially if I feel a cold coming on.

I wasn't trying to be difficult or anything. I wear a mask because I don't have much of an immune system, but then I look around and see that almost nobody else is wearing one, which made me think maybe I should just stop too. But... I won't. It feels safer for me this way. I suppose everyone should just do whatever they feel is best for themselves.

Personally, I have a solid immune systemβ€”I'm young and don't worry much about my own health. But when I went to the doctor recently, I was the only one in the waiting room wearing a mask. I put it on out of respect for others, especially the seniors there; I felt terrible thinking I might pass something on to them, even if being masked myself felt a bit uncomfortable.
When I finally saw the doctor, she asked why I was wearing a mask. When I explained it was to protect the other patients, she just waved me off. Honestly, it's no wonder you don't see many people masking up anymore.

Anyone who wants to look out for themselves should probably just keep wearing a mask, because COVID-19 isn't exactly gone. So, I guess I'll be wearing mine for the foreseeable future.

Go ahead and wear it; I’m doing the same thing, and not just out of concern for COVID-19, but to avoid catching this year's flu, which has been exceptionally brutal. On top of that, there are all sorts of other viruses running wild lately.

A mask isn't actually going to protect you from COVID-19. It might help against the flu, but not COVID. Their primary modes of transmission are different.

This thread is supposed to be about the flu, but I suppose I should weigh in regardless. Personally, wearing a mask has always kept COVID-19 at bay for me, since I haven't caught it once. I don't really hang out in massive crowds, I'm not much of a cafe person, and I make sure to wear a mask whenever I'm in enclosed spacesβ€”and so far, I've stayed clear of the virus. People are still passing away from COVID-19, though, mostly the elderly. As for immunity? I guess I don't really have any, simply because I haven't had much actual exposure to the virus itself.

Even at my place, you can't get through at all if you have a feverβ€”it’s just some automated phone advice instead. I guess that's just how things go now.
Masks are mandatory, obviously.

I'm not really sure if this is the right place to ask. I picked up some Quercetin plus Vitamin C capsules todayβ€”trying to boost my immunity since I've been fighting a fever all weekβ€”but they're dietary supplements and honestly, they're just way too massive for me to swallow. Is it actually okay to just open them up, dump the powder into a spoon, and wash it down with water?

I went to cafes every single day without a mask. I hit the grocery stores without one too. I finally caught COVID-19 from the woman I live with, and that was two years after the pandemic started. So, zero points to the "it's all about masks" crowd regarding cafes, restaurants, shops, or crowds. I didn't wear oneβ€”or when I was forced to, I just wore it under my nose. It's nonsense to claim someone avoided it solely because of a mask. I know people who wore them religiously everywhere and still ended up getting sick.
