Dealing with Herpes?

Taking B-Complex tablets really helps, and during an outbreak, Virolex cream is absolutely top-tier.

You can actually "predict" a herpes breakout by getting ahead of it. If you notice that tingling or itching sensation on your lip, just apply Virolex (or something similar) immediately. All the symptoms usually vanish within 24 hours before any blisters even show up.

The only real issue is that we don't always have the cream on hand, and those blisters can pop up just minutes after the itching starts.

Well, what can you do? It's hopeless. I've probably tried about 30 different ointments in my life—I actually have a list so I know what doesn't work. It never gives me a heads-up, but I know if I'm coming down with a cold, I'm gonna get one, so I just apply stuff preventatively.
...And I work with clients, so when a few spots flare up on my face, I'm not trying to hide them, people notice, but they don't need to be staring at them either. 48 hours is way too long for my ego, especially since I deal with this maybe twice a month on average.

Having herpes flare up this frequently isn't exactly normal. You should see a doctor; they might suggest something else besides B-Complex (which worked for me). It’s likely that stress, a demanding job, or a weak immune system are all playing a role.

It’s a shame Virolex isn't working for you. I've tried just about everything—from "home remedies" like brandy, chamomile, and toothpaste, to pharmacy staples like grape ointment, zinc ointment, and Virumerz... all alongside Virolex. In my experience, Virolex truly proved to be the best solution.

P.S. Are you applying it according to the instructions by using a "thin layer over the blister," or are you putting a dab on your fingertip and "rubbing" it on so the entire surface is covered with a thicker layer of ointment?

It’s not even the most normal thing happening lately, but honestly, what can you do?
Some people get stressed out, meanwhile I just get herpes.

Regarding that ointment stuff, I've been using this Hima-paste for a few years now. It's kind of skin-colored, so when you put it on, you have to spread it out a bit. If it's just a little herpes on your lip or skin, you can't even see it. I don't usually go too thick with it, otherwise it looks like a chunk of my skin is falling off.
I guess Virolex used to be available via prescription, right?

I applied all my ointments in thick layers—no rubbing it in—directly over the entire affected area. In my experience, you get much better results this way than just spreading a thin layer around.
I don't really care about how it looks; my main priority is suppressing the herpes as quickly as possible. 😉

As far as I know, Virolex has never been available by prescription (though I could be wrong).

Back in my early twenties, I dealt with such frequent and brutal outbreaks of herpes that the skin on my lip was practically eroded in spots. It was relentless—as soon as one sore would clear, another would pop up. My nose, my lips, even right near the edge of my eye 😱

I was desperate... nothing seemed to work.

Then, a doctor suggested I try a course of Bimolin. Apparently, there was some research suggesting that a long-term side effect of taking this medication was a reduction in how often herpes outbreaks occurred in people struggling with it.

What can I say? I took Bimolin for three months. That was about twenty years ago.

Since then, I maybe get herpes twice a year, and even then, it's incredibly mild.

so what even is Bimolin?
nobody ever suggested that to me...

luckily it never popped up above my lip, but once near my beard, i had about 13 of them. now i need that emoji where the hair stands on end.

Bimolin used to be some kind of anti-influenza drug—basically an antiviral.

I don't think they even carry it under that name anymore... you'd need to check the ingredients first, then maybe try to find a substitute.

Man, my mom used to take Bimolin for herpes back when we were living in Boston, but they stopped making it ages ago... if anyone knows what it’s called now, I’d be so grateful, because I really want to ask my aunt to mail me a few boxes...

Anyway, my mom rushed to send me some Abreva cream from the States—it’s this tiny little tube, super miniature, maybe like $15 USD, but honestly, after just three applications yesterday, it’s almost all gone...

This one inside my nose was actually way more painful than any lip outbreak I've ever dealt with before...

Back in the spring of '95 in Washington, D.C., I had an outbreak that spread from my lip, across my nose, down my cheek, and right up to the edge of my eye...

The doctor who saw me just brushed it off, saying, "Oh, this is just from stress," mostly because I had moved away from Boston about five months prior...

And I just looked at her like, "Doctor, I was under way more stress when shells were whistling over my head during the war, and I didn't have herpes constantly then..."

She told me that our immune system is kind of like frozen vegetables—when you're in danger, everything stays hard and rigid like ice, but once the threat passes, it all just thaws out and leaves us completely vulnerable to viruses...

My psychologist here in the USA actually told me the exact same thing...

To believe or not to believe... my doctor gave me this advice today after I went in for that annual check-up and just laid everything out for him regarding what’s been bothering me 😁

He told me that herpes is actually triggered by the same virus that causes mouth ulcers, and he prescribed some pills for it—claims they're the latest thing on the market... but looking at this prescription, honestly, I can barely make out the names... once I pick up the box tonight, I'll let you all know exactly what they are and how they work

ps. After that episode the other night, I've already got a herpes outbreak on my lip—only a two-day gap, so I guess I'll be testing their effectiveness pretty soon...

Hey everyone, just wanted to mention the medication is called Famvir, and the active ingredient is Famciclovir...

Basically, it's used for genital herpes, which is actually the same Herpes Simplex virus you get on your lips, and that same virus can cause mouth ulcers too...

I ended up taking a heavy dose—about 4000 mg in one day...

I took 2000 mg in the morning and 2000 mg at night, and honestly, it cleared up overnight... 👍

I still can't quite believe it...

My doctor told me that it shouldn't come back for at least three or four years...

I'm just so happy... 😁

Novartis makes Famvir...

but since the active ingredient is just Famciclovir, the brand name doesn't really change much...

you could use Valtrex, Zovirax, or pretty much anything else for genital herpes...

I finally went and vented to my doctor about it... honestly, I just can't deal with this anymore...

It just feels like it's always one thing or the other, either herpes or some kind of aftereffect...

I'm getting a little bored over here... and honestly, things are starting to hurt quite a bit...

If this thing flares up again in the next three years, I swear I’m going to lose it on my doctor...

Just so you know, that big dose really knocked me out... I was feeling so incredibly sleepy all day...

I had to head home from work early and ended up sleeping for almost sixteen hours straight...

I finally managed to catch up on some sleep today... feeling much better now... 😁

Honestly, I’m feeling too lazy to deal with this, it’s not like it's the end of the world or anything. Plus, I’ve already got that cream on hand. But hey, if there’s actually a way to just get rid of it for good, then maybe I'll bother. I mean, I’ve got Afte too, so trouble doesn't always show up as just herpes.
