So, here’s another one for the list—a gel called SIKAPUR that’s based on silica dioxide.
Even though I actually caught those first symptoms early enough to start slathering on some Herplex, a tiny little blister still managed to pop up on me, can you believe it? But honestly, SIKAPUR just dried it right out in less than two days! It does have this pretty intense stinging sensation when you first apply it, but by the third time you put it on, the blister is basically gone and that stinging feeling from the medication settles down significantly.
I’d definitely recommend it. 🙂

Starting a new thread 😠
It popped up right on the corner of my lip and spread to the skin around my mouth in just a single day 😲
I’ve been applying Herplex cream, and I even bought those patches—which are outrageously expensive, by the way—but absolutely nothing is working!
I’m taking some immune support drops; they usually pull me through whenever I get sick, so I’m really hoping they can boost my immunity here, because if I end up getting genital herpes too, I am going to lose my mind 😠

Everything around my lip is itching like crazy, and I’m not even supposed to touch it

If you feel like your herpes is constantly popping up and spreading, the only real way to get ahead of it is to focus on boosting your immune system while working to dry out those active spots—personally, I swear by using some zinc ointment and those little medicated patches.

And whatever you do, please do NOT try slathering on toothpaste or liquid foundation to hide it, because you’re just asking for a permanent scar or a nasty dark spot to stay on your skin forever!!!

Don't mess around when it comes to herpes!! It's pretty common knowledge that being out in the sun makes outbreaks even worse!

I tried those patches—total garbage! Maybe they work for some people, but they did absolutely nothing for me. And I actually shelled out $20 😠
for them.
Why is everyone so against using toothpaste? Honestly, I've had way too many people tell me otherwise lately.

The reason I'm cautious is because they can leave spots behind, and I ended up with this little dark mark on my skin.
Honestly, though, those bandages are a lifesaver for me.

Hey everyone, my upper lip has been pretty swollen for the last five days. I went to see a doctor yesterday and got some allergy pills, though honestly, I wasn't expecting much change. Over the last ten days, I noticed this tiny bit of redness right where my lip meets my skin—barely anything, but you know me, I spend way too much time staring in the mirror! This morning, it looks a little redder than before. It’s not intense, but there's definitely a difference. Is the redness related to the swelling? The redness is on the edge, but the swelling feels more "inside" the lip; nothing is visible there, just that the lip itself looks about 20% larger. Could this be herpes? I'm 20 years old and I've never had it once in my life...

Doesn't look like herpes to me.
Check out these photos and decide for yourself: http://derma.freehostia.com/derma_sl...s_simplex2.jpg
In my opinion, it just looks like irritation from the cold weather and constant lip licking.
Just use some ointment.

Does anyone know why Herpes Simplex flares up? My boyfriend just had his third outbreak on his lip in only a few months. Is there any way to prevent this, or at least stop it from happening so frequently?

Once you catch Herpes Simplex, it’s in your system for good. It’s like a dormant passenger that jumps ship every single time your immune system—the one thing keeping it in check—takes a hit.
The guy needs to focus on boosting his immunity: eat clean, keep up with vitamins, and seriously cut down on stress.

Hey there, so I've got this herpes outbreak—or something that looks suspiciously like it—hanging out in the corner of my mouth. I’ve been slathering on some Herplex, which helps a little bit, but then it just crawls right back... you know how it goes.

So, I’ve ended up with a pretty massive Herpes outbreak on my lip.
The issue is I have a major meeting coming up next week, so I could really use some "emergency" advice on how to clear this up as fast and efficiently as possible.😁

I deal with quite a few issues regarding this myself..
Do you have that cream, Herplex, I think that's the name.
If you can't track that down, honestly, just try using some toothpaste or even liquid concealer. 😁 😉

Do those clear patches you stick right over a herpes sore actually work? They aren't exactly cheap, so I don't want to waste my money if they're useless... thanks!

Since we already have an existing thread regarding herpes, I’m locking this one down. I would strongly suggest that before anyone starts a new thread, they take a moment to actually learn how to use the topic list and the search function. Thanks.

It’s becoming a predictable, miserable pattern for me... Every single autumn and winter, the herpes decides to make its unwelcome appearance, and just like clockwork, it’s hitting me right now. It is an absolute nightmare that constantly gets under my skin. I find myself perpetually slathering on ointment, yet as I can clearly see, nothing seems to actually do the trick...
Does anyone out there have any genuine advice on how to dodge these outbreaks entirely, or at the very least, how to get through them a little faster?

Moving forward, whenever you start feeling those tiny tingling sensations that signal an upcoming Herpes Simplex outbreak, try rubbing the area with a strong alcohol—something like high-proof vodka, an alcohol-based aftershave, or even pure medical rubbing alcohol—every single hour. There have been times when this method actually worked well enough for the breakout to never even surface.
Once a sore does actually appear, you really need something with drying properties, such as a zinc-based ointment, though some people swear by using regular toothpaste as well.
You can find all sorts of specialized treatments at any local pharmacy. I’ve personally tried various ointments, including one called Herplex, but I often find that these simple home remedies actually perform better. It's also worth remembering that these outbreaks usually happen when your immune system is run down, so there is absolutely no harm in supplementing with vitamins, especially when you know you're heading into a stressful period.
I truly hope this helps you out!

I really appreciate the advice... I hadn't thought about the alcohol trick, maybe that could be my saving grace. Last night, as soon as I felt that familiar sensation creeping in, I slapped some toothpaste on it and left it overnight... normally I'm using an ointment every single day. I also picked up some cream from the pharmacy and I've been applying a gram of it daily, but frankly, it hasn't done a damn thing for me. :S

Compeed patches.

I've got some on hand, but they wouldn't even reach you by mail until Friday, so... anyway, they actually work. They stick right to the spot. Honestly, if nobody has ever given me a second glance or asked me anything strange while I’m wearing them on my lip in broad daylight, then they're practically invisible—or at least, very hard to notice.

If you're applying ointment directly from the jar, there's a real risk you're just spreading things around. When you use those creams long-term and constantly dip your fingers into them, your hands can pick up bacteria—and even harbor the virus itself. Honestly, just toss the old jar. When you get a fresh one, be smarter about how you apply it; I’d recommend using a Q-tip instead of your fingers. Just dip it once, apply, and then throw the swab away.

For disinfecting the area where the herpes has broken out, you might actually find something more effective than standard rubbing alcohol. Octenisept spray is quite good because it targets bacteria, fungi, and certain types of viruses simultaneously.
As for boosting your immune system—specifically to fight off herpes—taking B-Complex vitamins and Vitamin C can really help. Since they aren't dangerous, you can take higher doses right when you feel an outbreak starting to help shorten its duration.
