I’ve been wondering—why does the pain seem to ramp up as the years go by? Shouldn't it actually be getting better? It’s such a strange progression—during high school, I barely felt anything at all, but now that I'm navigating college life, if I don't pop four Ibuprofens in a single day, I can hardly walk... and just for the record, I don't use any kind of birth control, nor have I ever used it before.😕😕🙂

Then you just pray you can find yourself tucked under a warm blanket in a quiet bed at that exact moment.
There is nothing worse than being doubled over in pain in the middle of a crowded place. It’s the absolute worst.🙂

Well, you might just end up face-planting right in the middle of the disk, much like I did 🤣—and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty! 😂

Hey ladies!
I’ve been reading through everyone's posts, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking how many of your struggles mirror my own. My very first period was actually painless, but ever since then? It has been absolutely unbearable.
I see so many women convinced that everything is purely psychological—that there’s always some deep-seated emotional issue lurking behind physical symptoms. Honestly? I don't buy it. I’ve officially stopped counting the days until my next period because the cramps hitting me half a day before the bleeding even starts are just too intense to ignore. Is it all in our heads? I highly doubt it! 🙂 It starts with the intense cramping. Then comes the frantic, high-speed scrolling through my phone to check when my last period was. Finally, the crushing realization hits: those dreaded days are officially here. And then? A scream that curses the entire male gender! :/
I’ve tried absolutely everything to deal with these pains. But honestly? The real winners for me—the absolute best fixes—are Voltaren suppositories, wrapping a wool scarf around my stomach, and wearing three pairs of socks at once! xD

You wouldn't believe the streak I've been on. Lately, it feels like my monthly cycle waits for the absolute worst possible moment to show up. Every single time—and I mean literally EVERY time—I find myself mid-commute or just pulling into my driveway back home. Since I'm studying in another city about seven hours away from my hometown, it’s always right when I'm stuck on that long drive! Is there some kind of cosmic joke happening here? Seriously, why does it always happen during the travel?

Can you even imagine what I’ve been through? Seven hours on a bus, dealing with excruciating pain and constant leaking, all while being surrounded by people so obnoxious I honestly wanted to throw them right out the window! 🙂

A day or two before it starts, I get the warning. If it hits at night, I’m wide awake instantly. I take some Advil, and it helps, but the worst part is feeling the meds wear off. I try tea, but nothing works. I've tried massages and heat... my boyfriend rubbed my stomach and back, and his hands are always warm, which helped while he was doing it, but he can't do that for five days straight. I'm out of ideas. Honestly, I just dread when it arrives. I'll try birth control, and if that doesn't work, then to hell with everything.

Contraceptives really did the trick for me—specifically the ones with anti-androgenic properties (like Qlaira or Yasmin...). I used Logest once, and while it helped a bit, the cramps were still pretty brutal.
As for pain relief, there’s this medication in Austria called Dismenol that worked wonders for me. I don't think we have anything quite like it here in the States—correct me if I'm wrong, but does anyone know of a similar over-the-counter option?

Look, according to our buddy Google, Dismenol is basically just standard ibuprofen. 🙂

I’ve found Balargin works much better for me lately, though I did try Efferalgan—the effervescent kind—recently, and I suppose that seems to be pretty effective too, if I'm being honest. 👍

On another note, since I started taking birth control, things have actually been quite a bit easier. I mean, there's still pain, obviously, but it's... manageable, I guess. 🙂

I dealt with brutal cramps too, but once I switched to birth control, they went from bad to basically nonexistent.🤷It's pretty common knowledge that BC helps dial down both the pain and the heavy bleeding.

I have to give a quick shout-out here for the first successful emergency intervention regarding period cramps. 🙂
The day before yesterday—day one—I honestly thought I was dying. 😳 I popped two Advil (I usually take Ketoral, but that wasn't an option), and all I managed to do was make a complete mess of my entire apartment.
Today, I went to get some blood work done, and now this wave of weakness is hitting me so hard I feel like I’m losing my mind. ☕
On top of everything, I've had these insane sugar cravings for days; I usually get them right before my cycle, but this current craving? It’s absolutely monstrous. 😁

Does anyone have any recommendations for stronger, more effective tablets for menstrual cramps that won't absolutely wreck my stomach?

Ketoral feels like nothing to me, and Voltaren is just as weak. Plivadon actually worked quite well, but man, it really sits heavy on the stomach. I’ve tried those Knavon suppositories, which are incredibly effective, but they're just not very practical to use when you're out and about.

Does anyone have an idea? My doctor actually asked me what I wanted to try next. Something like this🙂

Only 600 or 800 mg doses of ibuprofen actually do anything for me.

Thanks for the advice...

Unfortunately, nothing seems to touch the pain for me, not even Voltaren or Ketoral... I’ve gone as far as taking handfuls of Voltaren at once—and still, absolutely nothing. It was as if the medicine simply refused to acknowledge my existence. Doctors always tell you that everyone’s biochemistry is unique, suggesting we all have our own specific "key" for certain types of pain, but I feel like I'm holding a broken key.

Is there anything out there comparable to Plivadon? Or perhaps those Knavon tablets—those truly are little miracles in pill form...

You see, for me, it’s just a constant struggle with this joint pain 😁
Voltaren Rapid helps a bit when things are manageable—but once it hits its peak, I have to switch to Ketonal Retard, though honestly, that stuff just leaves me feeling completely wiped out...

Maybe try looking for PMS Free or PMS Balance... I mean, they're basically at a nuclear level of potency...

@COW, one really ought to avoid having blood drawn while on their period, simply because the results of a complete blood count won't provide an accurate reflection of one's actual health status...

Vegetarian diets are just far too flimsy for me...

The discomfort you’re experiencing often stems from how difficult it can be for the uterine lining to shed, particularly if there are cysts involved or if those menstrual cycles tend to run long, causing the lining to become excessively thick. It’s much like a heavy frost clinging to a windshield; it just doesn't want to let go. When someone uses birth control pills, it essentially introduces a sense of rhythm to the whole process, preventing that overgrowth of the lining because everything sheds more predictably and efficiently. Of course, one shouldn't overlook the possibility of uterine polyps, which can cause significant pain, so it’s always wise to have those addressed if they exist. Though, truth be told, sometimes you reach a point where nothing seems to offer relief except for pharmaceutical intervention...

It seems to worsen as I get older. It’s truly incredible how much it fluctuates. There have even been instances where the sensation was so overwhelming that it resulted in me being physically ill, vomiting from the sheer intensity of the discomfort...

I had my last period back in July, and it was an absolute nightmare—so incredibly painful. Since then, everything has just... stopped. To be honest, I’m still sitting here scratching my head, trying to figure out exactly what went down. 🤔
I mean, normally I have to reach for some Advil on the very first day because those cramps can be downright infuriating, but now? It’s all gone quiet, and I can't quite wrap my mind around why. On the bright side, I suppose my stomach is eternally grateful for the sudden lack of drama. 🙏
Taking three Ketonal/Knavon tablets at once on that first day seemed to do the trick. 😁

I stopped drinking milk three days before my period started, and the cramps were barely noticeable—like, just a tiny bit of discomfort for maybe ten minutes. Usually, the pain is bad enough that I actually have to skip class.
That was just last cycle, so it’s happened once, but we’ll see if it works again this time around.

It might just be a thing for me, and it probably won't work for everyone, but there are likely other girls out there who haven't tried this yet and might find some relief.

It's listed under "alternative options."
