Benjamin Martin65 said:Whereabouts in Chicago could I actually track down some of that valerian root tea?

I suppose I might give it a shot, though I have to admit I’m feeling quite skeptical about the whole thing.
To tell you the truth, I woke up early this morning in such unbearable pain that I felt like I was right on the verge of being sick; I ended up grabbing some Advil 400 mg immediately, and after about twenty minutes, I finally managed to drift back to sleep since the discomfort had clearly started to subside. Right now, I'm feeling perfectly fine, so it seems the Advil was the real hero here, leaving the "inventor" of this herbal remedy in the dust.

You can pick up valerian root at any local pharmacy. And hey, if they don't have it in stock, just ask them to order it for you—you'll usually have it by tomorrow. I think it costs around $2 or $3. As for those mushroom capsules, I actually grabbed mine at a Kroger. They usually have a whole aisle dedicated to vitamins and supplements, but you might need to hit up one of the bigger locations.
Tea won't hurt you, but you really have to be consistent with it!
And please, don't overdo it with the pills unless you absolutely have to. I used to take up to four a day when the cramps were unbearable, but honestly? You don't need all that once herbal teas start doing their job.

Thanks, 😉
I deal with that same unbearable pain, so I think I'll give the tea a shot, and I've already gone ahead and added some St. John's Wort to my shopping cart on iHerb.

See, I deal with some pretty excruciating pain myself, and for quite a while now, Neofen has been my one reliable monthly staple, and I have to say, it does wonders for the discomfort, it really is excellent for that 🙏 and what I appreciate most is how incredibly fast it kicks in; usually within about twenty minutes, I'm already feeling a sense of relief... and it stays with me for a good long while... so, truthfully, I wouldn't dream of switching it out right now.

I don't get the hate either. Neofen Forte is a lifesaver for me—it hits fast.

I just pop a heavy 600 mg dose of ibuprofen

I’ll take two a day if I really have to. I have zero tolerance for pain. I’ve tried all those various "women's health" pills, but they’re clearly useless for me. Honestly, I just swipe some of the ibuprofen my dad takes for his back, and life is good.🙂

I don't know if this is actually going to do anything for these brutal cramps in the long run, but I started hitting the gym every day and completely overhauled my diet. Now I just need to finally track down some herbal teas—specifically Vitex—that are supposed to help.

So, this month when my period hit, I didn't wait around for the agony to start. I took a painkiller immediately as a preventative measure. Just beat the cramps to the punch. That's how you handle it.
Woke up the next morning feeling like I’d been hit by a truck. Total body aches. Had to drag myself out of bed just to hunt down the same damn pill I took yesterday. Same routine, same pain. 🙂
It honestly pisses me off when the cramps hit me hard on the second day of my period. Like, why even bother? I’m stuck taking Advil all over again just to function. It's ridiculous. Look, let’s just be real about this. People keep bringing up Caffetin like it’s some kind of holy grail for period relief, but honestly? It’s just another drugstore option. It works if it works, but don't go thinking it's some revolutionary breakthrough in medicine. It’s basic stuff you pick up at a CVS or Walgreens when you're desperate. If you've used it, you know the deal. It does the job, or it doesn't. No hype needed.. 🙂
I’d honestly rather not touch pain pills at all. I really wouldn't. But let's be real—I have zero tolerance for pain. Period.

Look, I don’t have time to sugarcoat things for anyone. You want the truth? Here it is. Most people walking around these days can't handle a straight answer without running to their therapist or crying about "nuance." There isn't any nuance here. It's either right or it's wrong. Simple as that. I've spent enough time watching the circus unfold to know when someone is selling snake oil and when they're actually delivering. If you're looking for a hug and a participation trophy, you're in the wrong place. Go find a lifestyle blogger. I’m just here to call out the nonsense when I see it. Don't get mad at me because I refuse to play the polite little game everyone else is playing. If you can't handle the heat, stay off my feed. Period. kaže:
Man, I totally get you. Honestly, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had to roll into the ER. These days, I just stick to night primrose oil capsules. Before that, I was doing the St. John’s Wort and Echinacea tea thing. All of it actually works. If the pain hits a little harder—not nearly like the old days, though—and I’ve got places to be or stuff to do, I just pop an Aleve. Simple as that. Back in the day, I couldn't even dream of getting through my period without slamming Advil or Voltaren. I’ve gotta give it up to the ladies on this forum. You guys are a goldmine. Honestly, the info shared here is exactly what a woman needs to actually turn her life around.

😢

I woke up feeling like the room was spinning this time around. Total vertigo. I decided to just knock out for a bit this afternoon to see if I could sleep it off, and honestly, that actually helped a little.

Bold. Straight up. No fluff, no filler. Just facts. 👍

I’d suggest that as soon as you start feeling that pain coming on, you take either Advil or Tylenol PM 400 right away. They’re really great tablets... the pain just seems to vanish instantly...🙂

The first day is always the most brutal for me. I take a single 600mg Ibuprofen as soon as the pain starts, because otherwise, it becomes absolutely unbearable. For the rest of the time, I just focus on staying extremely hydrated. Honestly, I think getting through those initial forty-eight hours is mostly down to that early medication. 🙏

I use a standard wool thermal belt designed for rheumatism. I pull it down to my pelvic bone, and it reaches just above my navel, which provides warmth exactly where I need it most.

I’m 29 years old now, and honestly, I’ve been dealing with agonizing menstrual cramps for as long as I can remember—well, since my first one, anyway. Advil usually does the trick, but over time, I’ve become increasingly paranoid about popping pills constantly, so I’ve been trying everything under the sun to handle this naturally. I actually tried drinking chamomile tea once, but that was a total disaster for me; it completely threw my cycle out of whack and caused all sorts of other side effects. Eventually, a herbalist recommended a Vitex tincture to me. I’ve been taking it for about two months now, and I have to say, it’s actually helping quite a bit. I later stumbled upon some info online explaining that Vitex is essentially chasteberry and that it’s incredibly potent for various women's health issues: http://narodnidoktor.com/vitex-cudes...a-za-plodnost/
A close friend of mine also started using Vitex drops because she was having a hard time conceiving, and she’s already in her third month now. 🙂 Before that, she had seriously tried just about everything imaginable.
So, if you’re looking for it, just ask for Vitex at your local pharmacy.

Honestly, Ketoral is my absolute lifesaver, but you’ve gotta be smart about it—take it the second you feel even a tiny bit of pain starting up, and you'll stay ahead of the game!

It’s been almost two weeks now since I started drinking a cup of this tea every single day just to be safe. Biljana/Tea for Every Woman .
Ingredients: yarrow, St. John's Wort, passionflower, calendula, nettle leaf, sage leaf, chamomile flower, peppermint leaf.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question (🙈), but can this actually happen? Like, can teas meant to help with period cramps really mess with your actual cycle (making it late, etc.)? 🤷
Thanks!

That fennel mentioned should help regulate things, just to get the flow going. But honestly, you see conflicting info online all the time... some say it lengthens the cycle, others say it shortens it.

Might be best to check with a gynecologist or a herbalist before you start drinking them... just to be safe.

I am definitely going to vouch for Magnesium 🙂)). I’ve been taking these 400mg tablets once a day—they’re about $2.50 a pop—and I’ve been on them for a few months now because I’m following this specific diet and need the extra support. Anyway, I got my latest batch last Friday and I've only popped three pills so far 🙂))))), but honestly, I’m floored. I used to go through entire bottles of those heavy-duty, 24-hour extended-release painkillers just to get through the day, especially when the pain would linger for three days straight... so seeing this actually work is wild. Magnesium seriously does the trick. One time, right before my period—maybe a day and a half out—I accidentally downed about a liter's worth of Donat Magnesium, and even then, the cramps were way more manageable. So yeah, definitely give it a shot ;-)

I honestly have no clue how those pills even work for you guys—seriously, I’ve been dealing with these brutal periods for like 15 years now. I feel like I’ve tried everything under the sun... most of the time it was Neofen, but lately, I’ve been switching over to Nalgesin. But honestly? It hasn't done squat. At best, maybe it takes the edge off by like 10%, which is basically nothing at this point. Man, I would give anything if they actually worked for once!

Have you tried Ketoral? I deal with incredibly painful cycles too. It’s not just the stomach cramps; the pelvic pain gets so intense during those first three or four days. Sometimes I even feel sharp pains a few days before it starts. Otherwise, I'm fine, but when my period hits, it's brutal. Ketoral does help dull the pain for me, even if I still feel it...

They require a prescription 😍 Give your doctor a call and ask them to send a script over so you can pick them up 🙂

For me, nothing hits the spot quite like 400mg Ibuprofen from Walgreens. Honestly—if I don’t grab a pill the second that first wave of pain starts creeping in on day one—I’m basically doomed. It’s like a predictable disaster: three hours of absolutely unbearable agony, followed by all that nauseating, stomach-turning vomiting. It’s just brutal. Usually, my routine ends up being two tablets on the first day and then one more the next to keep things under control.

Ugh, honestly, I am just so over these cramps. It’s the same miserable routine every single time—stomach pains that just won't quit, followed by two hours of twisting in knots before the vomiting finally kicks in. It’s a total disaster. Just the other day, it hit me right at the bus stop—and because I’m apparently incapable of planning ahead, I didn't even have my meds on me. It got so unbearable that I actually had to call 911; they ended up sending an ambulance to pick me up. They gave me a painkiller injection and I had to sit there in the ER for about half an hour just to stabilize.
Since that whole ordeal, I make sure I always have my pills on hand—and yeah, I actually take them on time now. Last month, I tried to play it cool, ignored the early warning signs, and thought I could just nap through it—huge mistake!
At least there’s a prescription for it, which is a relief, but man... my heart goes out to all the women out there who deal with this and even the pills don't touch the pain.

I feel you, my period is kicking my ass right now too...

Basically, I don't need any medical procedures or anything, I just pop a pill when I need to.

Does anyone out there actually have a solution for this nightmare pre-period bloating?
Seriously, this abdominal bloating is absolutely unbearable—and I’m talking about that feeling that starts at least ten days before my cycle even begins. My stomach gets so hard and swollen that it feels physically impossible to deal with! I've been scouring the internet trying to find something—anything—to help, but honestly, most of what I find for general bloating doesn't touch this specific, hormonal kind of misery. So, does anyone here actually know of an effective remedy that works?
