However, I’ve been scouring the internet and reading all these horror stories about how it could lead to heavy bleeding or, on the flip side, having no period at all :S
And honestly, I am completely spiraling and in a state of total panic 😕

Well hey, you might end up with a slightly irregular cycle, but honestly—it’s really nothing to worry about.

If you quit obsessing over all that junk, you’ll probably end up with a much lower anxiety level.
Seriously, just get off the forums. I’ve basically diagnosed myself with a thousand different ailments just by falling down internet rabbit holes.

Well, I do think there might be some exaggeration involved... but since I didn't know anything about the situation or the potential fallout, I had to look somewhere, didn't I? 🤷
Fine, I suppose I'll stop snooping around the web now, if only to prevent myself from becoming even more stressed out. 🙂

Some time ago, my gynecologist prescribed a birth control pill, though I can't recall the specific brand since I never actually picked up the prescription and subsequently lost the slip. At the time, I wouldn't have started them anyway; I suffered from frequent migraines, and my primary care physician advised me that combining the two was a bad idea. However, I quit smoking a while back, and thanks to taking Solgar magnesium, I haven't experienced a migraine attack in nearly six months. Given these changes, would it be safe to consider hormonal contraceptives now—assuming, of course, that I undergo all the necessary blood work and consult thoroughly with my doctor?

If you're healthy and all your labs come back clean, there’s really no reason why not—especially since you kicked the smoking habit🙂.

Ladies, a quick heads-up regarding the Women's Health guidelines: selling, trading, or giving away supplements and medications is strictly prohibited. If you happen to have an extra box of pills lying around and were thinking of gifting or selling them, please refrain from posting about it here.

For this reason, a previous post has been removed.

Hey!
I'm 18. About a year ago, I started taking Trinovum, but I quit after two months because my face totally broke out (I had acne before, but it wasn't this bad...). So, I switched to Diane-35 and I've been on it since. It was actually great at first—my skin cleared up, my hair wasn't as oily, my periods became regular, and the cramps went down...
But, (there's always a "but" -.-) about four months ago, I started having really intense pain during sex. It ranges from "kind of bearable" to "absolutely impossible." Creams, Lactogyn, and vaginal suppositories haven't done squat. About a month ago, it hit me: maybe it's the pill? :S
I noticed some other side effects earlier too, like gaining 5 pounds or breast tenderness, but I didn't mind those. What really messed with me was the drop in libido and dryness...
Plus, over the last few weeks, I've been hearing so much negative stuff about Diane that now I'm seriously thinking about switching brands.
What would you guys recommend?
Thanks a ton!

Hey 🙂

So, I just signed up here because I’ve got some questions and zero clue who to ask anywhere else.
Basically, I've been dating my boyfriend for two years now. My family knows him, he knows mine—everyone’s obsessed with him, honestly. It's all great, but here’s the thing: after two years, I think it’s finally time for us to get intimate. The problem is, how the hell do I tell my mom? I need a referral from our family doctor to see a gynecologist, but my doctor is super close with my parents and she'd totally spill the beans. Plus, she's getting a little forgetful, so even if I begged her to keep it quiet, she might accidentally let it slip. Does anyone here have experience dealing with this kind of talk? I'm 17, and I don't feel like it's too early, but I'm not exactly besties with my mom either. Still, I don't want to go behind her back because if she finds out later, it'll be a disaster. And look, I'm not doing anything without birth control—that’s way too risky and I'm terrified of risks. Any advice on how to bring this up without giving my mom a total heart attack?😢

Look, you've got your pediatrician, your primary care physician, your dentist, and your OBGYN—those are the four main pillars of primary healthcare here in the States.

What that actually means for you is that you don't even need a referral to see a gynecologist. You just need to find a clinic that's accepting new patients—wherever's easiest for you to get to—and just sign up there. They aren't going to be chatting with your mom or your regular doctor about your business (they aren't legally allowed to, anyway... you've heard of HIPAA, right?). Everything you do at that office stays strictly between you and them. There's actually a PDF on the forum about what to expect during your first gynecological exam, you should definitely check it out

Thanks for the info. I was asking because a friend told me you can only see a hospital gynecologist if your GP sends a formal referral. She said you can't just show up and ask them to start a file for you. 🙄

that’s a totally different thing. if you want a regular gynecologist, you need to go through a local health center clinic. a hospital will only see you if your GP or your current specialist sends you their way

Hey everyone—just popping in to say hi! Hope you're all having a killer week. ✌️ kaže:
Honestly—I’m just totally lost right now—like, I seriously have no clue what to do. 😢 I’m totally lost right now—and honestly, I feel like talking to my mom is just gonna make everything ten times worse... ugh. 🙂

Just find a gynecologist at the local clinic, get signed up, and knock out all those tests needed for the birth control pills.

And you don't even have to mention that to Mom—seriously, just let it go.

But I've been scrolling through forums, and everyone says the doctors at these community health centers are totally slammed—like, you'll be waiting months just to see someone. 🙂

Wait, did I just see that? Seriously? I’m staring at my screen right now like... is this actually happening? Because if it is, I think I might need to sit down for a second. Or maybe grab another coffee. Definitely the coffee. Everything feels so... I don't even know. Surreal? Like we're all living in some weird indie movie where the plot just keeps shifting without warning. One minute you think you've got a handle on things, and then—boom. Total chaos. It’s honestly kind of hilarious if you stop to think about how ridiculous it all is... but also, wow. Just... wow. Anyway, I'm rambling. I know. I do this. My brain just goes a mile a minute sometimes and then suddenly hits a wall. But yeah... just sitting here, processing everything, wondering what the heck comes next... kaže:
I’ve been scrolling through some local threads lately, and man... apparently, if you're trying to see a gynecologist at any of the public health clinics around here, you might as well be planning for the next decade. Everyone's saying they're absolutely slammed... like, totally underwater... and you end up stuck on a waiting list for months just to get an appointment. It sounds like a complete joke... honestly... 🙂

Yeah, tell me about it... honestly, every single year it’s the exact same story with the traffic jams heading out toward the coast. It's just total chaos in the suburbs... everyone piling into their cars to hit the beach at once... again.

Look, you seriously need to have a gynecologist on speed dial, regardless of whether you’re currently seeing someone or if you even think you need birth control right now. It’s just common sense... things aren't always easy to navigate everywhere. And honestly? Once you actually get on the schedule, you usually don't have to deal with those insane, months-long waitlists for that first check-up. They’ll just ask when your last period was and slot you in based on that... so yeah, just do it...

Look, I’m gonna say this one more time since you clearly aren't catching my drift—your mom and your GP have absolutely nothing to do with this...

Technically, you could just head over to a private clinic and skip the whole waiting game, but man... between the exam fees and whatever they charge you to transfer those funds, it’s gonna sting. Plus, they'll probably just fudge the appointment date to line up with your cycle anyway... so yeah...

Like Tyler James5 said, you definitely need a gynecologist—honestly, it's kind of weird your mom didn't just set that up for you herself. My mom signed me and my sister up for appointments at that age, even though I wasn't even sexually active yet...
And seriously, every girl needs regular checkups once she hits 18—especially if she's active, but honestly, even before then.

So, I decided to take a break from the pill the other day. Now my gut is absolutely killing me. And when I say gut, I mean I honestly can't tell if it’s my ovaries or my testicles acting up... I remembered Dr. Ginić once mentioned how spinal pain can radiate down to the groin area, so now I'm stuck trying to figure out if this is withdrawal symptoms or just my back—which, for heaven's sake, is aching because I sleep all curled up around my cat 😍. 😁 I was wondering, did any of you deal with intense pain after stopping birth control? Just trying to mentally rule one of these two possibilities out. I don't want to go crazy thinking it's just ovulation
.
And yeah. I've also realized my wetness has completely vanished since I stopped taking them. I get frustrated and turned on, but there's zero moisture... nothing. My libido has just tanked 😢. Honestly, maybe taking a break was a terrible idea... 😠

I mean, honestly... you guys wouldn't believe the day I've had. Just one thing after another. Total chaos. I was sitting there, just trying to enjoy my coffee—you know, that peaceful moment before the madness starts—and then everything just hits the fan. It’s like the universe decided today was officially "Mess Up Everything" Day for me. Seriously. And don't even get me started on the commute. Absolute nightmare. I swear, driving through downtown feels more like an obstacle course than actual transportation lately. Every single light turned red the second I approached it. Like, are you kidding me right now? It’s almost impressive how bad it can get. Anyway... I'm finally home. Sort of. Still feeling a bit frazzled, if I'm being real. Just need to decompress and maybe find something decent to eat that doesn't involve a microwave... if such a thing exists at this hour... kaže:
Thanks for all the replies, everyone. Seriously. I'm gonna give the local clinic a ring first thing tomorrow morning to get myself on the schedule... 🙂

I haven't the slightest clue where you even are, so I'll just give you the rough idea—if that first place you mentioned doesn't have any openings, you might actually have to trek down to your local Social Security office just to get a list of OB-GYNs who are actually taking on new patients... like, if you were here in NYC, you'd probably be heading over to the main office on Varick Street or something...

Look, you can’t just get this done over the phone or through some app. You’re gonna have to actually show up in person first. Like, physically go to the clinic. Once you're there, you gotta track down a nurse and grab their specific consent forms, then lug that paperwork around to get it notarized at the Social Security office or whatever local government building handles the bureaucracy... total headache, I know. But honestly, once you deal with all that red tape once, it gets way easier. You can only even think about booking the actual appointment after all that nonsense is out of the way...

Check this out, take a look at this thread...
So, let me see if there are any solid recommendations for the doctors on that list... wondering if anyone actually knows them...

Has anyone ever tried Novynette or Lyndinette pills?
I was seeing my doctor, and she suggested these two because my hormone levels are low. I need them to help regulate my heavy periods—polymenorrhea, I think it's called—but also for protection... I'm leaning more toward Novynette since I've read better reviews online, but honestly, I wanted to see what you ladies think.
Any impact on weight or mood? Does it kill your libido? 😳

There are plenty of other low-dose options out there, but honestly, "low dose" is pretty subjective—what works for one person might totally tank someone else. If your doctor recommended Lyndinette, I'd say go for it, especially since they have both the 20 and 30 versions. The 20s are the lower dose, but you might deal with some breakthrough bleeding if they aren't strong enough to stabilize your cycle, so you can always bump up to the 30s later. Personally, I tried Yaz, which is low-dose, but it just wasn't enough for me—so I switched to Lyndinette 30 and they've been awesome. Plus, there's the price factor—Lyndinette is one of those that's covered by insurance, costing maybe $11, whereas Yaz is almost 😳. So, if I were you, I’d start with Lyndinette 20 and just adjust if needed.

Also, yeah, your mood will definitely take a hit at first while your hormones try to find a new baseline—eventually, things should level out and feel normal again. I don't really buy into the weight gain thing, and as for libido... well, that's different for everyone😁.
