Regarding all that massive drama surrounding Yasmin—honestly, I don't think you need to sweat it. Every single pill out there comes with side effects, right? But if your OBGYN isn't even running tests and just hands you a pack of Yasmin because "that's what everyone does" and "most women handle it fine," then yeah, maybe you have a reason to be worried. These aren't exactly Tic Tacs... so if they don't sit right with your body, nothing catastrophic is going to happen.
I personally get my labs done every three months (at least, that's what my doctor told me to do) so I shouldn't exactly be expecting a heart attack or anything crazy to hit me out of nowhere.
Plus, if nobody in your family has suddenly dropped dead at a young age from something like a blood clot or those kinds of issues, you’re probably fine too. My doctor mentioned that it’s largely genetic. Obviously, anything can happen—life is unpredictable like that—but if you're staying on top of your regular checkups, the odds are basically zero...

You clearly misunderstood my intention regarding the medication... naturally, it was prescribed following a consultation with my physician. After a year of treatment, I had blood work performed to ensure everything remained within normal parameters, and the results were perfectly satisfactory.

So, if I am understanding you correctly, you are suggesting that the cost is $33 too high?!☕
If you haven't experienced any adverse effects from them, I suppose my advice would be to continue the regimen... though, naturally, one should always maintain regular medical checkups.

I suppose you are implying that I am telling you how I feel. $33 Too expensive? That’s a rather reductive way to frame the matter.☕

And really, what exactly is considered strange about that? Not everyone has money to throw around recklessly. 🙄

I suppose it really shouldn't be any of your business what I can afford on a prescription, so I’m not entirely sure why you’re making such a fuss about the price or commenting on it at all. I mean, I guess I should probably explain that I am a student, and... $33 It seems to me that there is quite a bit of it, though I suppose it could all still be used for a recipe.🤔

Honestly, I think there’s just a massive misunderstanding happening between you two 🙂

Look, birth control can be covered by a prescription, but that doesn't mean all those pills are free... some of them still cost you money regardless... 😉

Look, just because a pill is prescription doesn't mean it's free. 🙄

You might get a sample script for Yasmin, but you're still paying for it. $33

Ultimately, I have weighed all the pros and cons and decided to resume the medication, both for my ovarian issues and my irregular cycles. $33 It isn't a steep price to pay if it resolves these matters, or at least provides some relief 🙂. Besides, I’ve taken them before and experienced zero side effects; everything was perfectly fine.

The only thing I need to know is whether I should wait until my next period to start, or if I can begin immediately. If I have to wait for my cycle, I'll be waiting quite a while... 😢

Have you ever actually gone out and bought pills before? 😕 You have a prescription in hand, but you still have to pay at the pharmacy counter.

Well, damn... I use Trinovum and I don't pay a single cent since it's covered by my prescription.☕
I honestly had no idea people were being charged even with a prescription, so I guess you have to wonder how much they cost if you're buying them over the counter?!😕

Well, I figured that out... it just doesn't seem to add up to me, since I can pick up Trinovum right off the shelf at the drugstore $4.75!!!! So, I guess, how much would these ones actually cost?

I suppose you might need to wait for the volume to increase... at least, that seems to be the case with mine.🙂

The Yasmin line is certainly the most expensive, but I find I have little regret regarding the cost if the results prove truly effective.

I understand that perspective... though personally, these have worked wonders for me and I find them quite effective, even if there is a significant gap in cost. Are you really not interested in testing out any other brands?

I fail to see the utility in experimenting with alternatives when my previous prescription served me perfectly. To be fair, I did find myself pondering the recent media coverage regarding Yasmin, though my physician assured me there was no cause for alarm and that the outcry was largely overstated. Any medication carries inherent risks if misused, and certainly, not every pill is suited for every individual. It is essential to recognize that Yasmin, for instance, poses specific risks for women over thirty-five, smokers, those with diabetes, or individuals managing weight issues. While instructions and clinical guidance are provided with these pills, many people unfortunately neglect to read them.

During my time on them, everything remained quite stable. I actually noticed clearer skin, less oily hair, and even experienced some slight weight loss 🙂

I have a question for those currently taking Yasmin: how frequently do you schedule check-ups, and what specific screenings do you undergo?

I guess I used to head in every 10 to 12 months or so just for blood work and a pelvic ultrasound. Before I even started on the pill, I made sure to get some hormone panels done too, if that makes sense.

Actually, all these pills require a prescription. If they are being used primarily for birth control, they usually fall under a 'private' prescription where you have to pay the full retail price. However, if someone is dealing with specific health issues—like PCOS, excess hair growth, or high testosterone levels—their doctor might prescribe a different type of pill that qualifies for standard insurance coverage, meaning it’s either free or just a small co-pay.
Besides, I honestly can't imagine how anyone could get those types of pills without a doctor's note; for any medication like this, a prescription should always be required.😕

They wouldn't give them to me without a prescription; as you know, back when we actually had to pay out of pocket,$3.25 during our conversation,$3.25 regarding the prescription?! In that case, my doctor told me directly that it would probably be more economical to just buy them over the counter for $4.75!🙂

That is exactly what the instructions state on every single pill pack. However, my gynecologist informed me that I could start immediately, though he did advise being extra cautious since I won't have full contraceptive protection during that first month.

I have been contemplating whether to begin my regimen today. My cycle is currently absent—there has been nothing since December 28th, which is unfortunate, though entirely expected for me—and I anticipate my period should arrive within the next few days. Consequently, I find myself undecided as to whether I ought to commence the pills immediately or simply wait. 🤷

You probably have some sort of hormonal imbalance, which is likely why your doctor suggested you could start taking birth control on any day. It doesn't really make sense to sit around waiting for your period when you never know exactly when it might arrive or if it will even show up over the next few months. In that case, you would take the pills to help induce your cycle. If you think your period might actually arrive in the next few days, I’d suggest just waiting—since birth control is typically started on the first or fourth day of your cycle, depending on the specific type—or simply follow whatever instructions your gynecologist gave you. They presumably have a good reason for recommending that specific timing. 🤷

It appears they truly hold the upper hand 🙂
I shall commence today, as my temper is entirely unpredictable... I might still be kept waiting 😳
