Did it ever cross your mind that we're the promised land for Turks, Kyrgyzstanis, Indians, Indonesians...? No? Think about it. Or if you lack the brainpower, just take a walk through construction sites across America. Come back with a conclusion. I'm genuinely curious. ☕

I’m listening to the European Union talk about a solidarity fund today. Basically, countries with excess gas will help those lacking it—but only if they prove they've slashed electricity consumption by 15%. I can't wait to see how lethargic American citizens act when they turn off the AC and ventilation in factories, gas stations, and big-box retailers. ☕
Can't wait for winter to hit and for the weak-willed crowd to decide that when it's -18 outside, people don't need their homes heated to 75 degrees—maybe 70 is enough. ☕

Whatever. If we have to die just to rein in Putin, fine. As long as the corporate boards can keep their asses warm or cool at the expense of our lives. ☕

Go ahead then, Mr. Smoke and Mirrors! Run off to your "promised land," buy yourself a sled, and try warming up with cheap gas... 😁

You're talking about -18, you absolute charlatan? That is such a ridiculous comment... when was the last time it actually hit -18 around here, and where exactly?

How many days in a year do we even spend below 10 degrees?

You don't even know how to troll properly...

If the price for my freezing this winter is keeping the Russians warm with HIMARS, then fine. I'll take that deal.

+

Shut up and take my money (and some gas)

Watching videos of those Russian supply depots getting toasted will keep me plenty warm enough.

The two of you will probably end up bickering amongst yourselves while you're busy posturing with those propaganda pamphlets. Honestly, what a bunch of Turks... I can hardly believe it...

I’m just waiting for you to claim the Ukrainians are killing themselves and blowing up their own cities. You forgot that part—can't have complete Kremlin propaganda without it.

I'd gladly deal with gas rationing if it meant the Russians kept dying on occupied territory.

Who cares about the Russians? Seriously. You think freezing in your own apartment is going to stop them?🙄

If you're going to pull the trigger, aim at the enemy instead of shooting yourself in the foot.🕺

Alright, smart guy, why don't you tell me what the Russians will actually do with all that gas if they just shut it off?

Look, if that were actually true, why haven't they shut down every single pipeline heading toward the West? It's hard to believe they'd keep selling us gas just because they're suddenly worried about our heating bills this winter.

Just today, they announced they're going to go ahead and flow gas through Nord Stream 1 after all.
How does that work? If they truly didn't care whether anyone used their supply, they wouldn't be bothering to turn the valves.🤔

Best,

Typical—they act like pumping oil or gas is just some faucet you can twist on or off whenever you feel like it.

You can't just stop gas production on a whim. Any gas that doesn't head to Europe would either have to sit in storage or just be flared off like this:

Here's a little map to refresh your memory.

Best,

They sit right at the source, holding the valve and setting the price. What part of that isn't clicking for you?

Look, if there are multiple suppliers, some consumers are going to pivot toward whichever is cheaper or more reliable at the time. It's just how it works.

Current status of gas storage in Europe (July 19, 2022) - Storage Data

European Union - 65 % (722 TWh; average consumption Nov 1, 2021 - Mar 1, 2022 ~ 6 TWh) /// July 19, 2021 - 53% (595 TWh)
At this rate—assuming we don't add a single drop more—the EU has enough gas for about 120 days of fall/winter usage.
Back in the fall of 2021, we hit a max capacity of 75%, whereas the low point in spring 2022 was 25%.

Portugal - 100 %
Poland - 98.14 %
United Kingdom - 92.72 %
Denmark - 83.78 %
Czech Republic - 75.96 %
Spain - 74.99 %
France - 72.54% (95.47 TWh)
Italy - 68.63% (132.76 TWh)

Belgium - 68.26 %
Slovakia - 66.71 %
Germany - 65.1% (158.19 TWh)
Netherlands - 60.8% (86.03 TWh)

Austria - 50.14 %
Canada - 47.27 %
United States - 44.43 %

Best,

Russia is demonstrating goodwill through these gas deliveries. You clearly haven't learned a single thing yet.

It is an interesting observation: Northern Europe appears better prepared than the South (with the exception of Italy).

Exactly! It’s just that Putin completely miscalculated how that strategy would actually play out.
He’s acting like he’s already swallowed up 90% of Ukraine, most of the Baltics, and half of Poland, so now he thinks he can just do whatever the hell he wants.

Joshua Myers432 said:You were the one throwing insults about the East first—and just so we're clear, I view labels like "Russophile" or "Putinophile" as insults too.

Europe’s entire setup relies on Russian gas, thanks to those corrupt bureaucrats in Brussels led by Merkel. If you honestly think we can just snap out of that dependency in two winters—or that a massive 300% price hike won't wreck the European economy—then you've clearly lost your grip on reality.

We can agree on one thing.
