Is Omicron actually a silver lining?
Omicron is doubling the number of infected people every three days. If you run the math through 22 generations—that's 2^22—you hit 4 million people in just 66 days. That’s basically the entire population of the US.
People who catch Omicron won't be getting Delta.
And honestly, Omicron seems to clear out better than the vaccines do. With the Delta shots, it felt like we were just stuck in an endless loop of booster doses every six months, then four, then three...

The bottom line is that different mutations like Delta and Omicron don't really play nice together in the same body. Omicron is just faster and milder.

Do you want an answer right this second or should I wait? 🙂

1. We’ll have a much clearer picture soon of just how mild this thing actually is.
2. It won't be long before we know for sure if having two or three doses under your belt makes the recovery even smoother—basically, how much more it blunts the impact.
3. And then there's the big question: what comes next? Are we looking at a new SARS-CoV-2 mutation or some entirely different virus altogether? To be safe and get a real handle on things, we'll probably just need to grab another jab. 😁

A new study from the United Kingdom suggests that Omicron might be less effective at attacking the lungs.

The only honest answer right now is "I don't know."

But...

If you say "I don't know" too many times, the news outlets stop calling you.
If you say "Everything is fine" and then things go south, you lose all credibility and they won't pick up the phone again.
If you scream "We're all going to die" and we don't, nobody asks for your opinion ever again.
If you scream "We're all going to die" and we actually do, then you were right.

So, it pays to just yell "We're all going to die" and hope for the best.
Sure, you'll fuel the anti-vax movement in the long run, but they don't care about that.

So it’s good to know they care way more about hitting the headlines than actually listening to the experts they're constantly undermining.

We are here to engage in actual discussion, not to serve as free promotion for some random video that’s just fishing for views.

I'm not clicking on that. I refuse to fall for those cheap clickbait tactics designed to flood you with ads.

What kind of ads are you talking about?
The guy is a doctor based in the USA and he consistently puts out updates on Corona in the States and everywhere else.
In this video, he’s breaking down Omicron and some of the latest studies.
I honestly don't see what the big deal is...

It’s just that he’s saying things people don't want to hear.
But he is a medical professional.
You can't just dismiss him like that. 🧐

If you actually sat through the video, it would be incredibly helpful if you provided a brief summary here—just a few sentences—so anyone interested can get the gist without having to hunt for it.

Posting a link without any context or summary is just classic clickbait designed to farm views.

I don't get how we've only seen eight Omicron cases so far when they say it spreads like wildfire.
Either it isn't spreading that fast—which seems unlikely—or the actual numbers are way higher, meaning people are either asymptomatic or the symptoms are too mild to bother testing...
Just my two cents.

Not every single case is being screened specifically for the Omicron variant.

It feels like we aren't doing much sequencing at all over here. I know they’re sending samples off to the CDC, so I suppose we’ll get a clearer picture of how much Omicron is actually circulating in the US once those results finally trickle back in.

And honestly, if the symptoms really are that mild, I’d venture a guess that most people aren't even bothering with a PCR test in the first place.

If they aren't sequencing everything, how can we be sure Delta is still the majority...

I don't have a major problem with the video link itself, but a quick summary would be helpful.

I listened to a few minutes of it, and it seems he's taking it as a fact that infections in the USA are 4-5 times higher than the official case numbers. That sounds pretty hard to swallow to me—given how much testing goes on in the US, that would imply almost everyone there has already had it.

They just send a certain percentage of samples off for sequencing.
Anyway, I’m fourteen days out from my COVID bout and quarantine, and I just tested positive on a rapid test again—plus, I've got the symptoms. I'm calling the local health department to have them look into it.

I don't really follow this guy because his estimates are always way higher than the official data.
To be fair, though, ever since Omicron arrived, both politicians and health officials have been citing numbers that are significantly higher than what's officially confirmed.

The ads that pop up in every single video if you aren't running an adblocker or whatever.

The guy is actually a retired nurse instructor—not an MD (if that's what you were implying)—and his way of processing things is a bit sloppy, here's something relatively recent:

https://twitter.com/MedCrisis/status...73228786192390

And honestly, the real issue is how he just wipes out any comments he doesn't like—plus, he stopped inviting the people he used to host for discussions, and now he won't even reply to their emails once they start questioning his takes...

He holds a Master’s in Public Health (not a doctorate). For the most part, he just summarizes news from the scientific community. My impression is that he knows his stuff, even if the ratio of cases to infections he cites seems off. Still, I wouldn't write him off as unreliable, at least regarding Omicron.

The man has a million videos out there. I’ve only watched a few, so I’ll preemptively throw some ashes on my own head here in case he actually claimed somewhere that alligator testicles can cure cancer, Corona, and laundry stains.

He knows what he’s talking about, I guess, but his execution is always a bit... sloppy? Like that one video he did about Japan and ivermectin—it just felt off. It’s obvious he could use some more "training" in certain areas, if you know what I mean. I’m not saying we should just write him off entirely, but maybe a little constructive criticism wouldn't hurt. What really gets under my skin, though, is the deleting of comments and that total silence whenever someone actually challenges him. Just shutting down instead of engaging.
