Yes-yes-yes-No

We have a few more
yeses
besides us, most people haven't really voiced their opinion yet, so I was thinking we could try an anonymous poll once Zoran drops his next question.

What that would look like is me starting a thread like I usually do, but instead of everyone replying publicly, anyone who wants to weigh in would just shoot me a private message with their answer, and then I’ll post them all under simple numbers so nobody can tell who said what.
(well, except for me, so if people start guessing who wrote which response in the comments, I’m going to make sure I stay completely out of that speculation and won't participate in the voting either).

Since it feels like hardly anyone ever bothers to read past the headline anyway, I’ll make sure to mention this clearly in the opening post—that answers should come to me directly—and just so nobody gets too ahead of themselves and starts posting replies immediately, I think the best way to handle it is to lock the initial post until the responses start rolling in, and after that, maybe we won't even need to keep the topic locked.

I’d suggest that as you receive various responses, you feed them in one by one—that way they roll out gradually, allowing us all to discuss them over at the Echo threads...

That’s a solid plan, Simple—it gives us a chance to debate whether we actually nailed the author's intent or missed the mark entirely....

Thanks for the suggestion; I went ahead and added the first one. I’ve unlocked the thread as well, just in case anyone wants to quote others to keep the conversation going
and I’m really hoping we can all stick to the rules laid out in the intro so we don't end up with a mess of random replies
(I was honestly thinking about adding a disclaimer to the title like "read the intro first" or maybe calling this an "anonymous circle," but I haven't quite made up my mind on how to phrase that yet)

Edit: actually, I went ahead and updated the title after all.

I’m thinking it might be a good idea if everyone here starts logging their own philosophical questions right here,
so that when the winner of the right answer isn't feeling particularly inspired to come up with a brand-new question on their own, they
could just pick one from the list.

So, really—just the questions
and we should probably update this list every now and then to keep things organized and easy to read.

The whole thing was actually meant to be the original purpose behind the open call
thread (though due to a little misunderstanding, things ended up turning out differently, even if the result was actually pretty good)

So, there you go, let’s use this thread (unless anyone has a better idea, in which case please speak up!) as a place for your suggestions for philosophical questions for the right answer, which could also serve as inspiration for the people setting the questions themselves.

Just a heads-up, though: any questions posted here aren't meant to trigger an immediate debate about them.

Since our current thirty-round stretch has been such an intense ride, I really feel like we deserve to step back for a breather—maybe take a nice summer break and then dive back into things this fall?

That way, the winner of this round can save their big question for us until we kick off the next cycle in the autumn.

I’m really hoping you all are on board with taking a little summer hiatus.

Yes, absolutely—and honestly, we might want to consider refreshing the propositions just to keep things from getting stale... perhaps those tasked with drafting new questions should be given a bit more breathing room to actually brainstorm them, for instance

👍 Absolutely. It’s a fantastic idea to give whoever's asking the questions a bit more breathing room, and since we can drop our suggestions here for other tweaks to the rules, let's definitely keep this space open for those kinds of ideas.

Happy first day of fall, everyone!

Now that the summer break is officially over, I’m thinking we should kick off a brand new round on October 1st, and since Immanuel Kant 1, our last winner, earned it, they should be the one to post the next question!

If anyone has any bright ideas for shaking up the rules or refreshing how we do things, please throw them out here. 🙂

Personally, I was thinking it might be a bit smoother if I didn't always have to be the one to open up a new round, and instead, whoever is setting the question could just launch the whole topic themselves.

As for the format, I'd love to set up a template somewhere so that whenever a member takes over as the questioner—and handles the topic—they can just drop the template right into their post (just making sure to update the deadline date, of course).

And then, to keep things consistent with how we've done it so far, the person posting the question would also be the one to open up the discussion thread.

What do you all think about that idea?

Regarding moderation, as long as I'm around, everything will stay pretty much the same, including how we handle the polls, but if we need to tweak anything else, we can certainly talk about it.
