Drew Gonzalez75 said:Are public health officials still calling contacts? I was under the impression they stopped doing that a few months back.

That was peak chaos when everything was falling apart.
Now they're actually doing it again.

Not true—it works all the time.
It worked back in July when I caught COVID, and it worked in December when I was flagged as a contact.

I got the email and the notice about my mandatory quarantine on the exact same day.

Alright, well, not for me. That transition from November to December was a total mess.
If I remember right, everything was smooth sailing back in July. 🤔

Does anyone know if there are any actual plans to extend the immunity period from isolation, especially since recent studies show that coronavirus immunity lasts much longer than three months? Is this issue even being brought up during the press briefings?

I was wondering the exact same thing, but looking at the news today, it seems like they're bringing back the 14-day quarantine because of this new strain.

Does anyone have a link for this? I tried searching on Google, but nothing is coming up.

They went on record claiming that anyone who had come into contact with that genetically modified soy strain from overseas would need to spend fourteen days in isolation and provide a negative test result before they could step foot back out in public, but honestly, that’s just a total fantasy. It’s practically impossible to enforce when you consider how these things work; by the time an outbreak of that specific strain is even detected, we're already looking at several weeks past the initial exposure.

Honestly, this whole self-isolation thing is killing me. I’ve sat through three different series while stuck at home and haven't even caught COVID once. They just announced on the CDC press briefing that they’re bumping the isolation period to 14 days for this new strain.

Just for that specific strain? 🤣
I actually figured it applies to everything, precisely because that new variant popped up.
How on earth are they supposed to tell if it's the UK strain or some other local variation?

It feels weirdly off that they haven't officially published this anywhere, even though every major news outlet and local site has been running deep dives on all the policy changes taking effect Monday. Honestly, I feel like this kind of lack of transparency is just going to come back to haunt them when things go sideways.

Because, quite frankly, this whole measure is utterly nonsensical. You have people stuck in this extended isolation period for fourteen days, and even after they turn in a negative test, all it really proves is that they haven't crossed paths with someone carrying that specific British strain. But by the time our health officials actually pinpoint which cases are linked to that variant, we’re already weeks behind the curve. Just the other day, they announced that any positive cases identified as the British strain would date back to January 20th.
By the time you even realize you've been exposed to that particular strain, those two weeks of mandatory self-isolation have already evaporated into thin air.

So, why do you keep showing up on their list?

this whole thing was handled with the same kind of vague announcements

Honestly, even the requirement for a negative test to go out is starting to worry me. I remember back at my old job in Chicago, they made it mandatory for a while, and you had people stuck at home for three weeks straight. Perfectly healthy people! Just because traces of an inactive virus linger in your nasal passages doesn't mean you're sick. It's like a ghost in the system.
And if my memory serves me right, that’s exactly why they scrapped those requirements in the first place.

Anyone actually get their stimulus check yet?
Been waiting like two months now, lol.
Typical government stuff right here.
I’ve sent everything through twice via email, sent them screenshots of my claim status and all that... just getting those same damn automated bot replies back.
Does anyone know how to actually fix this mess?
Do they even have a working phone number I can call?

My wife just tested positive for COVID. We share the same house—so, how many days am I stuck in isolation?

It’s a bit of a mess, honestly. Just give your doctor a call and get everything squared away.

As far as I can remember, it’s 10 days from when her isolation period ends if you can't actually separate—you know, different rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, etc. Honestly, though, just have her call the local health department. They'll call her back, ask a few questions, and then you'll have your answer.

You're looking at ten days from the date of her test, assuming you tell an epidemiologist or your primary care physician that she’s been isolating in a separate part of the house without any contact. Is there really any other way to play it?

I already pointed out that living under the same roof means we have contact. So, what now?--is anyone actually listening?

It doesn't really matter; if you happen to deal with a doctor who actually takes their job seriously, they’ll likely ask about your living situation. They might want to know if there's any way—regardless of sharing a roof—for her to move into a separate room, or if you can manage to avoid one another in common areas like the kitchen or bathroom, or simply stop sleeping or eating together, and that's supposedly enough. Of course, because pretending that's actually possible is such a simple task, isn't it?
