My old man was just slapped with a mandatory isolation order. He’s feeling totally fine and keeps testing negative on those at-home kits, every single time. Now he's going to miss this specialist appointment he's been waiting months for, all because of this quarantine nonsense.
Thanks

No, he shouldn't have to quarantine.

Are people currently under quarantine allowed to leave their homes if they need to go get tested?

Of course you can. I mean, you’re allowed to head to the ER if you're feeling sick, right? And you can certainly take the dog out for a quick walk—just... try not to crowd anyone else and make sure you're wearing a mask. It's not rocket science, I guess.

So, apparently, if you're under quarantine, you're allowed to head out for a stroll with your dog—and hey, grab some fresh air for yourself while you're at it. But a kid stuck in isolation? They aren't allowed to step foot outside for a walk. Truly masterclass level logic right there... They really have their priorities straight, don't they?

The latest word is that isolation periods for those asymptomatic cases or folks just dealing with mild symptoms have been slashed down to seven days—provided, of course, you’ve actually cleared the illness or have been vaccinated, and there won't be any arbitrary expiration date on that status.

That’s exactly what I need to clarify—does this apply to people who tested positive but are symptom-free, say by day two or three? I'm reading through this, but I can't quite wrap my head around how it connects.

The isolation period has been shortened to seven days for asymptomatic individuals or those presenting with mild to moderate clinical symptoms, provided they aren't immunocompromised and it's been more than four months since their initial vaccination series or primary infection.

Think about it for a second and you'll see why. A kid can stay in isolation because they aren't going to go poop in the park; they aren't an animal. Same goes for you going to take out the trash, but it assumes you aren't some frustrated guy who's going to head out every five minutes or wander toward a dumpster 1.2 miles "miles away because the sign didn't specify exactly where I should drop this." Unfortunately, people here get frustrated way too easily.

Oh, wow, hahaha! Thanks for that, I really had a good laugh! No, seriously, so apparently someone in isolation is allowed to go out just because a dog might poop in the park? So the whole "epic battle to contain the epidemic" isn't actually based on any kind of logic then? Is it just "The virus is spreading, lock everything down!" one minute, and then total nonsense the next? If they get to go out, everyone gets to go out. Dogs can poop, sure, but humans should be allowed to maintain their sanity or whatever. You can always find a reason, right? "Oh, look at the little doggy pooping, hahaha!" And what if it actually *was* Armageddon outside? Would the dog even bother pooping? Can a dog even poop in an enclosed space? Look, let's be clear: I have a pet too, but if it were truly dangerous outside, my wife would be the one leading the charge to take them out for a bathroom break. It's not dangerous, and I don't think someone in isolation walking outdoors is going to cause some massive catastrophe. I'm just pointing this out to highlight how absurd this all is. If we're obsessing over where a dog leaves its business, why aren't we worrying about the well-being of children? Is someone actually going to drop dead just because a kid takes a quick stroll a little ways down the street?

Quick question about quarantine. I was hanging out with someone who just tested positive—we grabbed lunch together for about half an hour, sitting right across from each other. I've had both doses of my vaccine (last one was six months ago) and haven't actually caught it before. No symptoms so far. Should I be isolating?

Yeah, I suppose that should be the case. If you’ve had your second dose and it’s been at least four months since that shot, the standard protocol is that you’ll need to pull yourself into self-isolation for seven days if you’ve been in close contact with someone who tested positive.

Do I need to quarantine? For how long? And what’s the deal with the kids...? The CDC just released updated guidelines

I’m honestly a bit lost on the exact wording regarding isolation periods once you get a positive result... all it says is the date you were tested, and then that you can get clearance starting on the 11th day from that point. But isn't isolation supposed to be calculated from the first symptom, which acts as day zero? Why doesn't the official CDC site just explicitly state exactly when you're cleared to come out of isolation? The way it's laid out now, everyone is just going to calculate it however they feel like—starting from the symptoms, or maybe "forgetting" to count day zero just to shave an extra day off their quarantine.

Exactly. You can totally guess.
There’s no way for anyone to pinpoint the exact day those first symptoms actually kicked in.

Don't play games with stuff like this! Look, backdating symptoms... then just going around infecting everyone everywhere... absolute madness.

Look, you just need to call your doctor. They're the ones who call the shots.

And then they'll ask when those first symptoms popped up—only for you to insist you need a long stretch at home.

It’s just that some people actually listen when an epidemiologist speaks—while others? They just don't.

I don't think that's really on her to decide—that sounds more like something for the CDC to handle... they haven't even reached out to us, not once, not after the first wave or the second.

edit: seriously guys, can we please just turn off these Reddit signatures
