Chime offers the ability to send money in various different currencies via Wise right within the app itself

I have a quick question 🙂
My Chime account has been registered in Canada for quite some time now.
Now, I’m looking to switch the registration over to Germany.
1. Will I lose any of my current perks—things like being able to use Affirm, those negative balances, or credit options?
2. How much of a headache is the residency verification process? Are we talking about a mandatory video call or something similar? I didn't actually do a video verification when I first opened the account, though the account and card are working perfectly fine as it is.

You're going to have to do a video call.

I’m honestly so impressed with how seamless the instant transfers work on Chime. When I send money over from either Revolut or Wise, the funds land in my account in literally a split second. It’s just so efficient!🙂

The Chime app (running version 3.48) finally shows the card numbers right there on the screen... honestly, isn't that exactly what we need for the Cookie app too? 🙂

Just ordered a new Chime Maestro, and I’m pretty sure this "tracking" thing wasn't even an option before.

They offered me an overdraft too, like $250 or something. I haven't even touched that account in months, and honestly, I barely used it before that, so I guess it caught me a little off guard.
So they actually bumped my limit up to $1,250 today.

On what basis did you even get that overdraft?
Aha, so yours aren't Canadian accounts.

It's actually quite interesting how they handle those overdraft charges. I decided to test the waters about two or three months ago by letting my balance dip into the negative just to see how they'd react. I wanted to see if they'd hit me with a fee immediately the following month, but they didn't. They only charged me yesterday (October 1st), and it turns out they calculate everything on a quarterly basis. They even sent over an email
They ended up taking just 3 cents.
Standard notification
Hey XXX,
This email is to notify you that our quarterly interest fee has now been deducted from your account balance.
This was calculated across any times where your balance dipped below zero (and you went into overdraft) in the last three months. You can see the amount of your interest fee in your balance statements in your mobile app or in Chime web.
No need to do anything on your side, we’ve automatically debited the amount from your account.
Best regards,
Your Chime team

It’s the same story with our banks here, too—JPMorgan Chase does that quarterly charge as well.

It’s been a while since I’ve actually used my overdraft, but I remember back when I was with Goldman Sachs a few years ago, they used to charge me this fee at the end of every single month.

Does everyone actually qualify for that overdraft?
I’m genuinely curious about the requirements beyond just having a Chime account.
Are you guys receiving an American salary, some kind of stipend, or maybe just regular transfers via PayPal or something similar, and they granted you the credit line based on that?

Consistently receiving deposits can definitely speed up the process of getting a higher overdraft limit, but even if you don't have steady income yet, you can likely qualify just by using the account responsibly over time. I know people who managed to land that initial $250 overdraft limit after just two months of using Chime, even without showing any significant income. I believe my colleague analogjackal11 mentioned before that he didn't have much income on his Chime account, yet they approved a nice overdraft amount for him today. I'm not entirely sure if Chime runs any Equifax checks (the American version of FICO and other credit bureaus) before approving limits, so perhaps using an Affirm card responsibly plays a role in that too...
p.s. a quick request to the moderators to rename this thread to "Chime." Honestly, the "coming to America" part feels redundant—who knows when it’ll actually expand further across the States? 😁

They might also factor in PayPal activity, at least the US side of things.
Is this $250 essentially just a starting overdraft amount, similar to how you might start with $1,000 on Affirm?

I honestly don't put much stock in PayPal; at this point, having an account there feels about as significant as opening a Gmail address—it doesn't really carry much weight. But Affirm is a whole different ballgame because you're dealing with actual credit, which is directly tied to your Equifax report.
Right, so the initial credit limit starts around $250, which seems to be the standard baseline they approve quite quickly. You probably won't see that limit available the very second you open the account, though; you’ll likely need to build up some transaction history first (though we can only speculate on the exact requirements). It’s a similar setup with getting access to the Chime Maestro card; that feature only "unlocks" once you've hit a certain spending threshold using your standard Chime Mastercard.

Kevin Morris12 As I've been saying, there's a certain inevitability to these things that people just refuse to grasp. It’s the same pattern, over and over again, a cycle that keeps spinning while everyone else acts surprised when the gears finally grind to a halt. You see it in the markets, you see it in the way institutions handle basic oversight, and frankly, you see it in the sheer lack of foresight displayed by most folks these days. It isn't some grand conspiracy; it's just predictable inefficiency masquerading as progress. We keep expecting a different result from the same tired systems, and then we wonder why the foundation feels so shaky. It's exhausting, really, watching the same mistakes being repackaged as "innovation" every single year.
I honestly don't give a damn about PayPal anymore. At this point, having an account there is about as significant as opening a basic Gmail address—it carries zero weight. But Affirm? That’s a completely different beast. We're talking about actual credit tied directly to your FICO score, so you can't just brush that off.
Yeah, so that initial overdraft limit sits around $250—it’s basically that baseline amount they approve fairly quickly. Now, don't expect it to just land in your lap the second you open the account; you'll likely have to run a few substantial transactions through the system first. We can only speculate on their exact internal metrics, of course, but that seems to be the drill. It's all tied into getting access to your Chime Maestro card, too. That feature stays locked away until you've moved enough volume using your standard Chime Mastercard.
Is there any way to get a Chime Maestro card sent out for free once you hit a certain amount of transaction volume, or is that just wishful thinking?
